I personally expect them to live quite happily on the playstation 2 for quite some time.
Given the old playstation 1, (which is still selling quite nicely here in the UK despite its age and the advent of the dreamcast), is/was technically inferior to similar models.
This underlines again the old adage that it is the games that makes the console, not the console.
The best killer feature of this console is that it is riding off the success of its back-catalogue of games, by retaining backwards compatability.
Oh, and the DVD thing is kind of good.
I love my PSX, and I can't wait to get my hands on a PSX II. If only to get my bloody son of the PC....
The fact is UK motorists are penalised at so many levels in the UK.
Insurance angencies that will not hesitate at charging exprbitant rates
Petrol costs higher in the UK than anywhere else I can think of.
Road tax...
Speed cameras.
Lousy roads, with too much traffic.
Overpriced cars.
Its a fucking wonder that anyone is able to drive at all.
Perhaps this speeding thing should be applied to certain "high risk" groups. i.e.:
If you hve been caught speeding once before, or if you have been in a speed related accident. Or perhaps if you are under 26 (the "danger" groups in the eyes of the insurers).
I am not happy with this at all, but perhaps instead of hitting the "speed" issue, one should consider the fact that inexperience kills.
Or the fact that stupidity kills.
Better training can help save lives more than some draconian policing method.
If a company considers that a software package is no longer "profitable", opensourcing should be considered a way of generating advertising at the very least.
Look at all the companies recently who have benefitted greatly in terms of good PR by opensourcing their stuff.
However, this does not necessarily mean that opensourcing software is *always* going to be good PR.
Look at the recent Quake1 debacle.
What should have been (and Is still, in my opinion) a fantastic move has been perverted by whiners complaining that the release of the code has resulted in "iffy clients" or that the Graphix were not released with it.
I think opensourcing should be done in conjunction with the open source community:
Ask if anyone will support it. Explain exactly what it is you are intending to do.

I was simply asking if moderation could be refined. I was not making any statements or suggestions.
However
Meta moderation is flawed, in that it too can be abused.
And you know exactly what I mean by "first posting"
What important changes do you plan on making to the whole discussion thing?
Isn't it about time the moderation abuses and "first posters" are addressed?
Will we ever be able to moderate or score the articles themselves?

Don't expect adulation and worship.
Is it just me or does this seem like an obituary, rather than a time capsule.
I remember the days when I was using version 1 under windows 3.1 with trumpet winsock....
I still use it every day under linux, in fact I still swear by it. After all, it is realistically the only viable browser under linux.
I have been playing with mozilla, and I like it, but it is still a bit too grungy for everyday use.
I can't help get the feeling that the chip get it's name from the Curator of the Planitarium in South Park.
"welcome to the Plani-arium"
Vs
"Our new chip will be called: I-anium!"
Try this then:
a ss&num=10
http://www.google.com/search?q=microsoft+sucks+
And merry scrote-mas to you all!
yes, and...?
Sure it did.
Please slowly put the keyboard down and put your hands behind your desk...!
What you talkin' 'bout willis?
Imagine a situation where a large proportion of individuals are actually tagged using this system.
To the extent that it is taken as proof of identity...
Masquerading as another person by manipulating the chip would be cool.
Also a decent sized EMP/microwave burst would effectively remove them from society as well!
people who mock people who mock religion should be mocked...
Pretty soon we could all be bitching about:
redhattus of borg
and
Damn £edHat linu% being embedded in onboard car chips and:
lin-ce pda's, with their crippled X interfaces.
The orwellian future of the US seems to be gradually taking shape.
How "strange" that the US government seems to be focusing its efforts at what is effectively intended to be its own ruling class of the future.
Little or no effort seems to be placed in identifying those who are already troublemakers. i.e. drug dealers, gang bangers and first posters.
This troubles me, because trends set in US usually make their way over here (UK) in a few years.
Luckily you guys have a constitution, or you would be in real shit, eh?
Hmmm.
Kewl I'm following the guidelines.
:-)
I would have done had the url resolved....
:(
This was a first post with info in it....
/. these days.
What the hell is happening to
Come on. We should go back to the old days, where people would print banal pointless drivel as the first post!
BTW Tip of the day:
do:-
http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=x
where x=some string
to create a comments page all of your own!
Me neither.
I think I'll start my son out on BASIC.
I can't help get the feeling that by "enhancing" linux they are attempting to bend it all out of whack.
Presumably the Over 18 clause exists purely because they are trying to force a contract down your throat in the form of a EULA.
Doesn't this violate the GPL in some way by effectively restricting who can download the source of a distribution?
Sigh.
Yes. I don't see what all the fuss is about.
If I write or send anything subversive, I should be punished.
Chastise me!
Besides which I quite like the fact that self important yankee F*ckers can read my mail or get access to any of my traffic.
It's not so much that in Britian we have no police state, but more that we are part of America's police state.
Yeah!
;-)
My ISDN Card has a 386 on it
Don't be so pedantic. i.e:
Get your head out of your.
