  1. Re:Apple? on SCO Hints at *BSD Lawsuits Next Year, And More · · Score: 1

That is what I was just thinking.

I'm sure SCO will figure out someway to include APPLE. "Hell, why not!" I am sure is thier motto at this point.

  2. Re:Someone actually *liked* NWN? on Hordes of the Underdark Goes Gold · · Score: 1

Honestly I thought the OC (original Campaign) Was the largest piece of poop ever made.

But the toolset and the player made mods made up for it. Plus I thought SoU was enjoyable and think that HotU will be unbelievable.

As far as the 'lack of party controls' goes, NWN isn't really designed for that, so if thats what you are looking for then you are out of luck.

However, HotU does increase your henchman to being able to take TWO of them, and provides support for UNLIMITED henchman in player made mods, so you can have LARGE parties.

But your henchman will continue to be more autonomous compared to BG, IWD series. This is mainly due to NWN focusing on multi-player realtime gameplay.

  3. Re:Too much high level play on Hordes of the Underdark Goes Gold · · Score: 2, Insightful

Yeah, I would agree with you, if it wasn't for NWN's community.

There will be some player made mods that take the time and really make some epic adventures. It will be fun.

Plus it gives lasting life to some of the player run PWs, if done right of course.

This is the operator for PRETENTIOUSNESS from this guys "invention." Geez... this is probably the stupidest patent ever granted.

    PRETENTIOUSNESS

Previously, you (as my spiritual disciple) have flatteringly acted in a patronizing fashion towards me: overriding my (as SA) vain sense of conceit.

But now, I (as humanitarian authority) will conceitedly act in a pretentious fashion towards you: overruling your (as SD) patronizing treatment of me.

Well that's 100% punishment. No rehabilitation in that sentence at all. In fact I'd say they set that dude up. He'll probably be a criminal the rest of his life.

First thing i'd do when I got out of jail would be leave the country. $500 a month for life is very excessive.

  6. Re:way off (play vs gaming) on Fun is Fine - Toward a Philosophy of Game Design · · Score: 1

    Hmm...

Read some of the articles on http://www.gamestudies.org/. I forget which but one paper describes the dividing line between play and gaming.

basicly. Playing is the use and immersion into immagition. To fantasize and escape into another state. This is Playing.

Games are about structure and rules. Gaming is using the RULES to advance within a given structure.

One example. When you think about sports there is very little PLAYING involved. professional sports is engaged by Grownups, using the rules to advance in the structure of thier sport. They are not imagining or playing.

Just becuase people 'play' games doesn't mean that games are about PLAYING.

However, 'good' games incorporate play because it achieves what makes a game have longevity. immersion.

Play and gaming are seperate, however, than can both be engaged at once, together.

  8. Learn and Do on Careers For Supervising Game Designers? · · Score: 1

I wouldn't say it is impossible to get a job without any technical knowledge or art skills but it is a niave assumption. Considering there are probably thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of people currenlty STUDYING and WORKING on games on thier own to obtain the same position you are tyring to get without any STUDYING and WORKING.

You can answer your own questions just by trying to make a game.

Start out and design it and either start programming and doing the art yourself or try to hook up with a team and do the work together.

You'll quickly find out that the task is a huge undertaking, requiring large amounts of specific knowledge and skills to get anything accomplished.

    You will either:

    1) Give up
    2) Stop and learn what you need and tackle it later when you actaully have the know how
    3) work your arse off and learn as you go and get something produced.

Choosing option 2 would probably be best (and thats what I'm doing) and after some study and expiermenting you can either try to tackle your origianl task or go look for a job, each making your question mute.

Choosing option 3 will make your origianl question mute, becuase you will have the skills and a product to show off in the end.

choosing option 1 will prove to you that you really don't want anything to do with making games and you can start trying to figure out something else to do.

The AI for little robot dogs do all kinds of things.

When they score a goal the do a little dance, and when there other teammates see them doing a little dance they start dancing. LOL it was pretty funny.
