My #1 suggestion would to get yourself a copy of Flass MX or something simular.
You number one roadblock will be graphics.
Flash is an excellent way to quickly prototype game ideas. And the more you use it the faster you can prototype ideas.
I think game design NEEDS to be fluid. You need to get something working play it, find out whats fun about it and whats not fun. Determine what works and doesn't work.
Prototype everything first. Then when you have a solid design of the game play and mechanics, you can start something a bit more serious.
And more than likely your prototypes will be acceptable flash versions, and you might actually have a finished product in Flash.
Well the line you qouted is half true, drop the MS innovation crap and the truth is that MS windows and PCs have been and remain the platform for good games, dominating the consoles and definitely dominating any other PC OS.
And this wieghs far more into the MS/Intel success for the consumers end. How much new hardware will be sold if the PC stops being the game industry platform.
However this is being threatened by the next gens.
But the other intersting truth is the next part of the quote:
Windows is still the place where "garage developers" can develop a game (just look at Crytek and "Far Cry.")
There is no avenue of pursuit for the hobbiest, indie game developers on the consoles.
And the hobbiest/indies are who are responsible for innovation in th games industry.
The PC industry, on the consumer end, is being threatened as a hwole by the consoles.
What do most people need a computer in thier home for? Email/interent, music, movies, games, word processing.
The next gens are startng to look like they are going to be offering most, if not all, of those services, and do it better and more stream lined.
The end-user computer market could very well be seeing its demise.
It is an indie game with fast paced multiplayer chaos.
The graphics are minimal and the gameplay solid.
You could play two or three rounds in 20-30 minutes.
And you can try it out for free. I believe if you don't regisiter then it simply will log you off every 20-30 minutes, which sounds just about perfect for you.
15000 years from now, after the current civilization has been forgotten, some archeologist is going to dig up one of these, and discover the 'secret codes,' and see them as evidence of God or even aliens.
Dungeons and Dragons Online (2005 release) AND Middle Earth Online (2006 release)
Those are two really big names. And is all Turbine got to show for past work is Asheron's Call (1 and 2)???
Well Maybe they can pull it off. Maybe all they need is an already established IP like D&D or Middle Earth. *shrugs*
To be fair I've never played Asheron's Call (1 or 2) but I never really heard anything good about them. So i guess I should download the free trial for AC2 and see how it is.
Halo does what it does, and it does it well, very well. But it is probably the most over rated game ever.
How about instead of trying to cram every feature from other games into Halo 3. They try and do something original. It would be a first for the Halo Series.
If you watch the Peter Molyneux video demo, it is actually very impressive.
One thing to note is this:
The user is playing a game in a room, With a chest.
When They open the chest there is a minature room, which they enter. Then that room is connected to the room that had the chest, which has the minature room they were now in.
The left the minature room and re-entered the original room (now minature too?) that had a chest with another minature (minature) room.
I just read the whole diary. Very tense and gripping, and its not over yet.

you should look into Zap! from Garage Games.
It is an indie game with fast paced multiplayer chaos.

The U.S. IS a good country, but that doesn't mean its not bad.
Er... I mean for instance you ever see that Mcnamara Documentary 'The Fog of War.'
Well before we dropped the A bombs we had fire bombed the majority of Japanese Civilian Centers.
Remember WWII was the first instance of real Total War. Our targets were directly civilian and civilians, along with everything else.
You are correct, this was WWII, and whoever the loser ended up being they were going to be prosecuted for war crimes with good reason.
The Axis lost and they were prosecuted, and with good reason.
But if the allies had lost after we had done some of the things we'd done, then we too would have be prosecuted for war crimes, and with good reason.
To the victor goes the spoils.
He who controls the present controls the past.
Blah blah blah blah...
If there aren't drivers for my OS, I won't buy their hardware. Period.
And everyone else is the same. No one buys stuff that isnt going to work.
But the real question is how many people use 'your' OS compared to those who use 'thier' OS?

My roomate went out of town to midland texas (gawd only knows why).
On tuesday of this week, he purchased a ticket for HG2G.
After the previews the starwars theme song came on, and EP III played for the few hours.
He saw the whole movie two days before release.
Seems like bitTorrent isn't the only culprit.
My Attempt to hack the slashot community modding paradigm.
Mod up if you agree.
I just saw Star Wars EP III.
What a farking failure.
My childhood is dead.
Flamebait???
HALO SUX!! ---Thats flamebait.
Saying Halo is a good game but overated is the truth. Well I guess the truth does hurt.
So Turbine is Now doing both
Dungeons and Dragons Online (2005 release)
AND
Middle Earth Online (2006 release)
Those are two really big names. And is all Turbine got to show for past work is Asheron's Call (1 and 2)???

Exactly.
Its real hip to say 'Hey I don't care about fancy graphics, I care about gameplay,' to the point of being critical about realistic graphics.
Its like Reverse descrimination on graphics, uh, or something.
Who the fark cares. If it plays well then It will be fun.
Halo does what it does, and it does it well, very well. But it is probably the most over rated game ever.

The Entertainment Software Research Group at UNT has an audio only game research project going on.
Something I was recently thining about gettng involved with.
Should that be,

Casper the friendly post.
Anyway, the link in the articel is dead. Not even
I had never seen that before. Pretty funny.
Some fanbois thought it would be cool to have two 'hot chix' as jedi's, cause that would be hot.
But once you view the trailer you can see they failed miserably to deliver the hotness.
So there really is no point in watching it.
Thats what I was thinking.
Lucas sucks pretty hard, but after watching that, at least you know he's not a farking amature.
When I was in the 5th grade, 1985 I think (challenger blew up), the public school had a weekly computer class. They showed us LOGO and BASIC.
After I saw BASIC I begged my mother for a computer and she got me a C64. I've been programming ever since.
Show them the same thing. The one's that are going to get IT, will get it.

You can look up Warren on the IMDB.
I guess it was about two years ago when IMDB started listing video games.
I'll take 'Google' for 400, Alex.
Probably the only people Sweating the release of MxO are the publishers of MxO.
He wrote a column about google.
Some people, The Blog People, Flamed him, Trolling him successfully into hi-jacking his own dialog, and now is talking about 'Blog People.'
It's nothing but an everyday ol' flame war.
His original article, basicly saying Google sucks, was flamebait.
Just a n00b being trolled. Nothing more.
Correction.
This was written for the only 3 fanb... er people still playing it.
