Anyone else notice that they have H. Miller chairs in the "cave"? Good to know that my tax dollars are going towards something as important as a $1200 chair.
Sealand is a rusting, very small shack.

I don't understand how Sealand can possibly be taken seriously. Here is why:
1. Sealand is much smaller than people would like to image. Here are some excellent pictures from someone that visited

3. Sealand was legal position is unclear. If you would believe Sealands website, GB has given them full international status as a nation. Without even reading futher the sheer number of references on the offical website to how iron clad Sealands independence is a laughable. Also the formality of the website leads one to make conclutions about the "Prince's" sanity.

4. In todays post Sept 11 climate, any hint of illegal activity would cause the full wrath of neighboring nations. Sealand could not possibly hold off for more than a few seconds militarily.
5. Sealand is completely reliant on neighboring nations for everything, food, power, connectivity.
We all would like to see a true datahaven removed from the influence of international powers, but my friend, Havenco is not it.
When I first moved to NYC I bought a couple of "still in the theater" VHS tapes from a illegal vendor on Canal street. Quality was horrible, videocamera from the back row horrible. I've since learned that these tapes, and now DVD's are just for the tourists and people that don't mind watching a video where you can't hear the sound.
Lucent already does, its called oddly enough a 802.11b to ethernet converter:) http://www.orinocowireless.com/template.html?s ecti on=m57&envelope=93&page=125 ftp://ftp.orinocowire less.com/pub/docs/ORINOCO/PHO TOS/PRODUCTS/Oecs.jpg
First, I would have to say that your a bit of an unrealistic whiner. Why do you think that business shell out $800 a month for a T-1 rather than a $35 a month DSL line? SLA's, thats why.
But, I can relate.
If you are really worried about not having a connection, you reallly have two options.
1. pay for service, buy a business level circut that gives you a SLA.
2. pay for two diffrent providers. ie, cable and DSL or dish.
The SGI booth presentation this year was unbelievable! Not only did the invisible sales and marketing people give their entire presentation silently, but they also introduced a new version of their powerhouse workstation, the SGI "O2" (as in air). The workstation was clearly inspired by the Apple G-4, but the translucent case was taken even a step futher to the point of invisibility!.
No, he said that he wouldn't mind if it was on every computer as long as it "just worked". Which isn't ignorant, but something we would all like in an OS.

I hate to be the one to point out the obvious, but Gnome 1.4 is already available for Solaris 7/8. So you don't *have* to wait for it to be included with solaris by default to use it.
I work for a start up with many ex-IBM'ers, we decided in the begining to use the above mentioned IBM harddrives. For me, I could care less about quality of warranty, or past reliability. What I care about is that I have to swap 100's of IBM drives, full of data. I have had this drive fail 3 times in a 6 month period on my mail server, each time requiring me to take time out of my evenings to rebuild a busy machine. I'm busy enough without crappy hardware. My users are yelling for replacement drives from a diffrent manufacturer.
We went with drives from Western Digital. My my time and companies money is wasted.
I follow the patch cycle, patching and upgrading daily. As of 2.4.7-pre8 the VMware modules have been broken, as well as DAC960, and ftape. I'm sticking with 2.4.7-pre6 until its all worked out.
How nice, just enough time for the non-subscribers to get sick of a non-functioning tivo and subscribe. This gets me thinking. What happens to my Tivo box if tivo goes belly up?
I saw the Ximian/redcarpet demo at LinuxWorld yesterday. What they are tying to do is pretty cool. That being:
Make one desktop that is by default the same no matter what flavor your working with. Make gui front-end administration tools the same, with a back-end customized to the unix.
ie, you use the click the same button in the same gui on linux as you do solaris to change the clock, or to change a network setting.
Unix admin's don't have to memorize where slackware puts a config file compared to hp-ux.
Netscape 6 (AOL, too, if you consider AOL a browser). It also wins hands down on browser plug-ins, with support for QuickTime, RealPlayer Plus, Shockwave, and Windows Media Technologies, plus many popular MP3 tools. It's hard to imagine the Web experience without this basic software--all of which Linux lacks.
Both of the people is this little c/net OS slam need a clue. This is probably the most retarded article I've read in 2000. Shame on slashdot for reposting this piece of crap.
Now this is getting a little much. Why would I care what Linus has to say about Napster. What does this have to do with Linux? What will be the headline on Tuesday? "Tell us Richard Simmons, what do you think of napster?"
Everyone can try to sugar-coat napster, but the honest truth is that its a tool for piracy. I would venture to guess that at least 95% of Napster users have downloaded a song, really liked it, and did not buy the cd. Not that I have any moral objection to this. "Rock stars" have become just part of the huge corporate machine that is the recording industry in this country. Most of us do not even really think of big recording artists as people, but more of a untouchable fictional character. Its hard to have any sympathy for people that we all imagine are spending their cd profits on coke and skanky big haired groupies.

With the embedded processor that those access points have (16.4 BogoMips), forget IPSEC.

802.11b supports 128b encryption (WEP)
Simple answer...the company pays what they want, if it is not enough, quit.
56k ha! i'm in kansas remember, we still use ip over telegraph /scarcasm/
No, they did not. A corporate sponser paid for booth space, net connect etc.
