    I read these threads and wonder how intelligent people can be so fucking dense.Just because some artists and engineers are foolish enough to sign away their rights to a company doesn't make copyrights a bad thing.People and companies are entitled to make a profit off of original works they create and have every right to have these protected.Of course,what am I thinking this is the same place that railed against Metallica when they dared to make a stand for their rights.If we got rid of copyrights today,there really wouldn't be much incentive to produce much of anything.Why would someone devote vast amounts of time to anything without a profit.Would we go by the honor system? That would make it fun to be an author or artist for about five seconds when you realise you need to get a real job. Wake up simians.We're not that evolved yet.We're just chimps with tailors.

    If you worked in a business enviroment like a grocery store,you would realise using Novell as a file server makes sense.Novell isn't going anywhere.Novell provides a great secure file server in such applications.Especially since a lot of programs used in such cases run in DOS,it's a great solution.Linux isn't worth it due to retraining the workers. .

    You ignorant linux whores are beginning to sound like Mac-Evangelists more and more everyday.Slashdot should change it's motto to "Propaganda for Nerds".If you guys actually suscribed to Microsoft's security and technical lists you would know how quickly they get fixes out the door. But,it is correct, Linux doesn't get service packs,it just gets a new distribution.

    Residual guilt?Of course,I went to Catholic school.You didn't look vey hard apparently.I too have had sticky NT problems solved in about ten minutes by going to the appropriate channel.Personally, I have met some decent friends in IRC.The Poser4 channel I hang out in won't even tolerate profanity.Galaxynet allows people to register and admin their own channels ,so they can be as clean as they want to be.I agree that servers allowing channels like #warez isn't a good thing,but,how can you condemn the majority of channels like #winnthelp or #linux?I'm really curious to what you may have recieved via DCC,usually I recieve someone's latest 3d render or a custom figure they wish to share(which is totally legal).If it wasn't for IRC,I wouldn't know as much as I do about my two 3d apps I use.Mailing lists don't work for realtime classes like IRC can.Have a nice day.

    You are truly an idiot.I use two IRC channels the #Carrara and #3d_errorcode50,which both service people using 3d apps.There are many channels that support OSes,applications,and are generally fun to hang out in.Maybe you should stop warezing child porn you sick bastard.

    Larger,but with less polygons being drawn.This is still true of Unreal Tournament.Q3A can have far more polygons visible than UT.This is why UT levels tend to look blockier than Q3A levels.Both are great games and both reflect critical design paths chosen for the programming. Now,if we could just get Sweeney to add multi-threading to his next engine:)(I'm assuming Carmack will keep his for DOOM3)

    I love how a lot of you chose to prove his statement by whining here.Posting a thread to Slashdot doesn't amount to a fart in a hurricane.Until some of you educate yourselves to the real world's rules and laws ,your legal opinions won't matter.When you live by non-sensical sayings like "free as in beer" you are all doomed to be run over by the powers that be.Not everything in life is free and you wishing it to be won't change that.I can't stand how most of you pick on Lars because they chose to fight a company that was profiting from their talent with no compensation.You all jumped on the Napster bandwagon without realizing how you were being used.Napster doesn't care if you get music for free,Napster just wants to make money for Napster.Should music be free?I know at the end of the week I expect to get paid for my labor. The author at Suck is right,most of you need to wake up and smell reality.

    Hemos,like most of the slashdot crew misses the point again.Air conditioning has allowed man to populate areas previously unlivable.And the next time Hemos eats some fresh meat,milk,or vegetables he'll have enough braincells to realize what an acheivement it is to eat a steak from Oklahoma,milk from Vermont,and some fruit from South America all in one sitting. Refrigeration and air conditioning have had more of an effect on quality of life than Linux ever will.

    No,we're talking about kids in college trading copyrighted material with a program to do just that.Would you buy a cd when you can just download the .mp3's ripped off it?This isn't a "freedom" issue it's a copyright issue and it's easy for you to bitch about bands like Metallica when it's not your work being traded around.It might be a good thing this is going to court because there are issues that need sorting out.Remember music on a cd isn't Linux and it ain't open-source

    Although,I'm sure it sound like a good idea on paper or at a cocktail party.Pinkerton's plan is inherently flawed.It seems designed from the ground up for abuse.Offering money for turning in someone is corrupting enough,letting high school age kids turn each other in for money is the worst idea I have heard in a long time.In fact,I believe that their system will be so swamped by false,vindictive reports,any serious reports will be lost in the spam.

    'The Wave" was a a movie based on a teacher's experiment to show students how the German people got wrapped up by the Nazi Party.He would get the students to join The Wave and go against anything that wasn't them.Then he would turn around and basically say this is how the Germans fell for the Nazis. I love how Pinkerton doesn't think a kid won't use this for bad.With any luck just about every kid will wind up in the database either overloading it or rendering it moot.

    You people can split hairs over semantics all you want.The fact remains that trojans,virii,and worms are eventually going to make their way into the linux community just like us windows users.Granted,using your frontal lobe for more than a hatrack will help,but,if you think you're immune to some a-holes malevolence because you run linux think again.Every time you try to say it's impossible just makes one s.ob. out there try that much harder.Oh and I can't wait to see how virii writers exploit an open-source anti-virus app.
