I asked a legitimate question about why a massive international company would need to insure themselves against small damages and I got people saying "that's how it's done, period" without an explanation and a troll moderation? What is this?
This is local. What's happening on a global (ok, universal) scale is that the universe is expanding and after 100 trillion years all the hydrogen will be used up and there will be no more stars (or at least very few of them) and 10^whatever years after that the universe will just be a bunch of black holes slowly oozing out Hawking radiation. Very bleak.
I respect people's right to religion but I don't like the idea that religious beliefs and customs get special status. For example, in many places it's illegal (at least for minors) to bike without a helmet but when police try to prosecute people who don't wear a helmet because they have a turban on that prevents them from doing so they get bad pressed/sued into oblivion. I don't particularly support this specific law but when your religion requires you to do something illegal your religion is wrong, not the law.
Why would Apple want to have insurance? Getting a single store robbed won't even show on their profit charts and insurance companies have to make a profit so it would by definition be more expensive long term.
So you would much rather let a robot read your private communications than see your public face, which you already show to everyone you meet? I'm not against Gmail reading my email but the logic here seems a bit weird.
The risk for nuclear power plants with proper safety features is extremely small. You might as well add a 0.00005 cent/kWh tax to cover the possibility.
Most people don't even know about copyright or that file sharing copyrighted stuff is infringement, and they don't know about free music/books/software.
I'd much rather choose how I spend my time. If you're walking, it's 15 minutes of podcasts. If you're on a bike, it's 5 minutes of podcasts and 10 minutes of whatever you want.
The correct joke is: the Linux party is free, has optimized table service queues, and has three times as many entertainers but only 5% of the cars can get there.

Once you lose trust to that extent, you're done.
There's a linux version too.
The child didn't agree to the EULA.
Then do us a public service and convert, as I'm doing here!

You can see Chrome 2 and Chrome 4 in some of their comparisons.

Oh, wait, in most places you get arrested for hiding your face
You can get arrested for being a Muslim?

Anticipating being modded down is a common psychological trick here - moderators naturally want to "trump" you by doing something you didn't expect.
Anybody not talking to the cops is simply being sane.

No, it's pro consumer! It allows Amazon to deliver high-value content!
You can take a photograph of an electronic page too. DRMed E-books are not harder to copy than paper ones.
I prefer nuclear - even though solar is "free energy", nuclear power is cheaper per kilowatt hour, including the cost of the environmental damage,

They'll go create another Google-like company.
That sounds doubleplusungood.
Score ZERO, Flamebait? Who the heck upmodded this guy?
Perhaps the government should provide 'Universal Cloud Service' to everyone for free.
Cloud service... for some reason that makes me think of death panels.
