Why not do a little old skool Mudding/mushing? A group of us used to get together in the computer labs and go for hours. Lots more fun when grouping with people IRL.
Why not use that use that new skill set to change things? Go ahead and incite some riots, blow up some police, and take on the military! Eventually the goverment will be forced to its knees, and allow the game in. You on the other hand will now be a powerful crime lord IRL.
I think any OS faces an uphill battle. Sure most people know windoze, but at my office we have to show people how to use the mouse on a regular basis. That doesn't necessarily make them stupid (although....) it just means they don't know a thing about computers. At this point I think M$'s only advantage is marketing it's product, rather than the intuitiveness of the product
