No, it doesn't necessarily mean they are racist. But I'll be honest when I say that it bothers me when I go to my Catholic church, and anything with images of Jesus, Joseph, Mary or any of the Apostiles are always white. I'd rather be historically accurate - and with that thought I'll mention that I'm starting to have serious issues about the validity of Christianity.
Graham "Spankin It" Spanier - PSU President. That's the guy the RIAA sent a fax alleging that I was running an anonymous FTP server full of MP3s way back in 1997. Their network security office got pissed, and yanked my connection in November, my first semester freshman year! I had to use dialup for the next 9 months, while all my friends were playing quake on the lan =(
In Cryptonomicon, Bobby Shaftoe was the fucking man! I think my favorite part of the book was after Shaftoe was injured on one of the beaches in the Pacific, and he was being interviewed by Ronald Reagan after receiving a medal (this is from memory so be gentle):
Reagan: So do you have any advice for young Marines who might want to follow in your footsteps?
Shaftoe: Yeah, always kill the guy with the sword first.
Reagan: Ah, because they're the officers!!
Shaftoe: No, YOU KILL THEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE FUCKING SWORDS! Have you every had somebody charge at you with a sword?!
And he then starts mumbling something about the giant lizards that attacked the Japanese soldiers.

How Broad is Broadband?
·
· Score: 2, Informative
That makes no sense. Seeing that your downstream signal on "broadband" comes in a 6 MHz slot, how is that any different from a baseband signal with a bandwidth of 6MHz? To me, baseband means "not modulated"
There's a reason for this. There have been lawsuits in the past from former contractors. Their claim was that since they were treated equally with employees, they deserve the benefits that come with being employed by the company. So to stay on the safe side, never let your contractors forget where they stand. It may sound asshole-ish, but you've got to CYA.
This is one of the worst Score:5 posts I have ever seen. It's vague, and wrong. Bandwidth may become irrelevant when you're talking about wired media (fiber, coax, etc). Broadcasting is a different story. There is a finite amount of bandwidth available for the public to use. With the new HDTV channels taking up even more bandwidth than their analog counterparts, bandwidth may become even more scare (as far a TV is concerned).
It's not the same thing. With this service from AOL, you choose which shows you want to record. Comcast is just giving you of already recorded shows/movies to choose from, and trust me, their selection is minimal.
Thanks to digital boxes (which take 1/100th of the spectrum that a broadcast channel does)
Holy crap! I wish that were true. 1/100th isn't the case. A regular broadcast channel takes up a 6MHz slot. At most, you can fit in 10-12 digital channels in that same slot using a statistical multiplexer. Of course, the images look like shit (especially if the mpeg has a moving background). You may be able to fit in 10 channels of CSPAN though. You're more likely to fit in 6-8 digital channels in place of one analog channel.
Not really. With most systems pushing 900MHz, downstream bandwidth isn't really much of an issue. It's upstream that's the killer. I know with Comcast's Video on Demand, they've upgraded their systems to handle 10% of cable subscribers streaming at once. As the average loads start to creep towards that 10%, they'll just segment their nodes when the need arises.
I hardly ever see trolls (at least the Goatse kind). I browse higher score first, with anything scored 3 or above brought up. That way, I see all the score 5's then 4's, etc. I don't care enough to read anything under a 3, so I don't =)
Except for those nice caps they put in place the semester before I graduated. Makes me glad the Counterstrike server I ran was hooked up through CSE in Hammond =)
That's impressive! How did you manage to post this without having to read Slashdot? Cause I'm sure you're aware of the fact that/. is a glorified blog itself.
That reminds me of the ATM where I asked for $20, and got $40 out instead. I checked my next statement to see how much it took out of my account, and it was $20! I guess I owe you and some other guy $10 each then huh?
If the Apple store was up right now, I'd point you to the "Family License" version that costs $199, and is good for up to 5 computers.

What happened on thanksgiving?
Christianity is not racist, no matter what some stupid misinformed dolt says.
Oh yeah?! Then why is Jesus white in almost every painting?
I've been $rtbl'ed as well. One day, if I'm ever motivated enough, I may care.
Intersting, that page was 404 for the last 2 days.
Where did you get that quote from?

Wow, it's a chip that actually accelerates!!!
On top of that, any type of encryption would be against FCC regulations as well. Ham radio and SSH don't mix.

Yes, it does. Any other questions you could have answered on your own within 5 minutes if you'd learn to use google.?

Wiles is the guy who took a whole encyclopdedia volume to prove what Fermat said was slightly too big to fit in the margin of his book, yes?

Isn't this the same thing we criticised [slashdot.org] when Microsoft was certified and ...
Isn't this practically the same post that got modded up the first time we saw this article?
