I notice a lot of people talking about "The Free Market" and how it failed in this particular instance.

I don't think you guys understand how this side of advertising works. In case you haven't seen the "Head On" Commercial, go to youtube and look it up right now.

Now that you've watched one of many annoying commercials, ask yourself, why on Earth would anyone buy this product?

The answer is simple, when you're looking at all the products on the shelf, your pick up the first one your mind recognises, and an annoying commercial will stick in your mind as well as a good one.

Ok, great. I'm like the guys in Office Space who don't know how to launder money.

So. Wanna illuminate me or are you satisfied with being merely cryptic?

The thing is that most of these sites will ransom you for your credit card info to make the payment, its almost never just the amount they claim that they want to steal from you.

So you go to their website and enter the info. They return your data. They go and they use your credit card to make a deposit to a paypal account that they've hacked - its not actually one of theirs its of an unsuspecting victim. They run the money through a couple of those, whose purchasing history is actually protected so the cops need a warrant to search through it - which will often just put the wrong person under suspicion.

Eventually they run it to an account outside of the US's Jurisdiction.

I'm also wondering how Marinov suspected it would be in gold. The only link I can find is that they're both group 11 elements, but by that logic you should be able to find tellurium in sulfur, which isn't the case.

Of course not, everyone knows that elements form their cliques based on their classification, not the group # they've been assigned. This is why you see Hydrogen sleeping around with all the other non-metals and not really with any of the Alkali Metals. Everyone knows that Sulfur is a non-metal and Tellurium is a metalloid, and metalloids are known for being really a really exclusive group - they wouldn't even let Aluminium in despite her flexible standards.

No, I'm pretty sure Marinov studied the social situation amongst the elements pretty closely and determined that transitional metals - since they are going through puberty - are noticing all those really weird little changes. I mean gold has become a little more malleable to the ladies, copper and silver are noticing their skin has started conducting these little tiny dots.

Its only a natural part that Gold has started to notice its growing a new element in odd places. Don't be worried, its all part of the process.

  8. Re:Antivirus? on AVG 2011 Update Causes Widespread Problems For 64-Bit Windows · · Score: 1

I don't bother with having an Antivirus on the machine that I actively use. I use a systems settings manager. Anytime a registry value changes, added, or removed? I get a popup. Anytime something wants to alter a windows system file - popup. Anytime something simply wants to be added inside the Windows Folder - popup.

Sure I'll throw an antivirus on there and update it and run a scan about every season - but I'm not going to bother constantly updating virus definitions, setting up weekly scans, etc etc - when all they have ever done is come back blank - except for MAYBE tracking cookies if I even have cookies enabled - often times I just have my browser delete any temp data on browser exit.

It's a simple system - I'll know when I catch a virus, the system settings protection manager will catch it - I'll be asked if I want to allow a change or deny it from happening. If it pops up when I don't expect it to - I know something is up. I've had it trigger when browsing the web - Mostly if I were to try and install an Active X control - which shouldn't actually alter any of the regular system settings if done properly. Simply using something like this is much easier than an Antivirus. It's like Windows UAC on steroids - so I turn that off so I'm not hitting things twice.

But basically, Pojuts point he tried to make "You have something if you aren't locked down or behind a crazy firewall" is complete FUD. He has no evidence to back it up. Simple protection measurements will work - you don't need anything complex, you just need to watch whats happening.

Being behind a firewall was only necessary before the days of routers - routers now normally already block all incomming traffic - thats why port forwarding is such a pain if you want to set up a server for a game. All that you need to do to stay clean now is knowing when something changes. Merely having a file on your computer that doesn't do anything doesn't constitute an infection.
