    Maybe WinCE, not Linux...

    Slashdot retracted the "French" part after they found it wasn't, but no recognition of that.

    Thanks Slashdot. We appreciate the facts that you give us. Maybe the WinCE/Linux thing wouldn't be obvious, but everything else was clear.

    I remember this as well. It was essentially an electric mower (solar cells on the top, as well) without a bag (it mulched) or handles. Quite cool. I don't know how it mapped out your lawn though. Anyone have more info?

    I disagree.

    I don't think this is a publicity stunt. This is akin to a person having something, using it, and when they've gotten sick of it, offering it to everyone else. I'd much rather have them go "anyone want this?" as opposed to just trashing it (or, putting it aside and not touching it again).

    They know it doesn't make money. We know it doesn't make money. But they know we want it anyway.

    At least these are large companies fighting over these issues. I'd much rather have Priceline take on Microsoft than Priceline taking on some small company (*cough*eToys vs. etoy*cough*).

    Dell pulls in a lot of money per day (over $10M/day, definately), and in response to "Our Man In Redmond", the company doesn't necessarily have to make their $18M/day all year round -- Most websites sales go up in (*gasp*) December due to holiday shopping.

    Anyway, the $18M/Day is probably gross sales, not net profits.

    Whether or not you spam (which you're assuring us that you don't, so I'll trust you on this one), I don't think that Slashdot should be running ads for you posed as articles.

    With Slashdot as a commercial property (and publicly owned), I think that there needs to be an increase in the quality of the articles. Spelling & grammar errors in posts need to be corrected. Advertisements should be in the form of banners, not in the form of articles. Rumors shouldn't be posted as "news".

    Just my rant, though, and I'll probably be flamed/moderated down for it.

    I'll lose karma for this, but...

    Most of the discussions about moderation are a "here & now" sort of deal. What I mean by that is, it needs to be discussed in the main forum to allow moderators to fix their mistakes. It's important to discuss, but sometimes more important to discuss shortcomings when something can be done.

    Just my $.02.

    An even more off-topic thought: It would be nice if we could down moderate our own comments without losing karma. I know this is dreadfully off-topic, if I could knock it down to a zero or -1 without posting anonymously, I'd appreciate it.

    The Slash Code is a bit outdated (but Rob's getting around to updatin, he swears), but you can always get PHPSlash or something, there's a bunch of clones out there.

    I have a both an IBM 600E & a desktop computer, and what I would be interested in is a keyboard designed for the desktop that has an IBM style trackpoint built in. The trackpoint doesn't require me to move my wrists at all, and although it really blows for Quake [II | 3 Arena] it would be nice to have as an *addendum*.

    I would want to have the choice of trackpoint or mouse, so when I'm reloading /. incessently I don't have to move my wrists, and when I have the urge to frag the night away I don't have to play around with cables.

    Can anyone help me out?
