Sometimes people take quotes and modify them to fit the circumstances in the conversation at hand. Sometimes this is humorous, sometimes the juxtapositioning is quite insightful. Most of the time we don't care where it started.
Thank you for explaining that. That was the only one I didn't understand, so I figured it must have been part of a marketing campaign that I'd never seen.
I think you underestimate the skill of the people designing these cars. I'm not an aggressive driver myself, and I've found that all you need to do when you're targeted is lift off the gas and let them get on their merry way. Plus the range of sensors means it can see the person 4 lanes over as he starts to go perpendicular to traffic to make his exit and start backing off way back then.
Convincing people not to drive their own cars will probably take an entire generation. Once everyone who is alive today has passed on it will be mainstream, but everyone who's already driven will want to keep driving. Of course there will be pockets who educate their children that we used to drive our own cars and we should still be doing it, but we'll just laugh at them as though they're Amish.
There's still a lot more people with a fear of driving than with a fear of travelling in a car. It's all about not being in control, the standard mind says "I'm behind the wheel controlling this car, so I'm safe, but I have no idea what the pilot's doing so I may or may not be safe..."
Of course the benefits of flying outweigh the fear factor for most people, and in time automated cars will probably gain as much trust as we have in airplanes, but it will take time to bring the public perception around to the new realities.
Imagine a Venn diagram of selfish people and inattentive people. Now imagine the area of people who are neither selfish, nor inattentive. Look, there are people there! Hi Guys!
Whenever there's a story about something that's just in the lab or a specialty competition like this trolls come out saying how it's worthless until it can get to market. When there's a story about something coming to market, troll come out and say that it's nothing new and that it's been in labs/competitions for year. So many trolls. . Kinda makes me sad:'(
I mean would you go into a random automotive mechanic and ask to borrow their testing equipment because you think you know what is broken in your car?
Pretty much, yeah. Whenever the check engine light comes on, I take it down to Autozone and the man comes out and plugs his machine in and tells me the code. Doesn't charge anything to do that, sometimes I decide to buy the parts I need from there, other times I need to take it to a mechanic, but if they didn't give me that service, I'd probably go somewhere else.
I realise we've been the butt of jokes for many years, but Perth isn't really boondocks... 1.5Mbit is actually the slowest speed I could find (they only want to check their email and talk to me, so they don't need blazing speeds.)
Haven't really read much about the NBN recently, I thought they'd basically shelved the idea for the time being...
That still leaves people with the option of choosing option with less carbon attached to them, and ending up with more money at the end of the day, which will drive investment into low carbon industries.
You make a good point about exports, but we could work out something to give the exporters a tax break so that it's only that carbon 'consumed' in Australia that is taxed.
Of course, it doesn't really matter how much Australia reduces it's output. China and the US don't look like slowing down any time soon, so the tiny fraction that Australia can cut out won't make much difference to the big picture.
I live in the US. I get a 1.5 Mbit connection with a 250 GB cap. I pay for my parents internet connection in Australia so they can talk to me on Skype etc. For double what I'm paying over here, they get a 1.5 Mbit connection with a 20 GB cap. Every now and then I decide that there must be a better deal out there somewhere but everything else I can find is worse.
I did read an article in Crikey about it though, and I think it's mainly to do with the fact that most of the internet Australians want come from either the US or the UK, and there are only so many fibres that leave Australia, and laying more is quite expensive, so at least the prices are justifiably high.
So because you disagree with a few people attitudes, you're doing your best to make life unpleasant for everyone on this planet in a few years time?
I'm sorry that you're delicate ego can't withstand the internet trolls, but there are a lot of people out there who will happily discuss thing with you in a friendly manner and a lot of people who will take the time to explain things to you so you can be happy that you understand the way these things work.
Of course I am assuming that you actually asked a question, rather than just started attacking people with question marks on the end of your sentences, but you seem like quite a rational person.
I made quite a lengthy and informative post on this topic a little while ago, but my searching skills aren't up to finding it now...:(
Basically, global cooling (and dimming) was being caused by sulphur oxides and fly ash, which were comparatively cheap to stop emitting. So we fixed it, and now we don't have a problem. Global warming is caused by carbon oxides, which would be quite expensive to stop emitting, so of course people don't want to do it, and we get this 'debate'.
The ozone layer is a whole different issue, which was also solved in the past, but doesn't contribute to global warming or cooling.
We may have seen nomenclature before, but would you know what picornavirus meant? So if they did include the nomenclature it'd have to be something like "picornavirus (the vrus that causes foot and mouth disease". So They're basically just saving a few letters.
p.s. I'm assuming that the other posters calling it picornavirus are right, I don't know myself, and I don't really care enough to click that handy Wikipedia link Linux Nutcase provided.
Well that's probably a result of the US not manufacturing as much as China. If we could fill them up we'd send them back, but sending them back empty is just a waste of fuel.
Yeah, all the cell phones out at concerts really gets to me sometimes, you see people watching the whole show through their phone, so they can upload the crappy video to youtube later. No one wants to live in the moment.

How is cheap labor such a problem for you people? I like my $10 a day builders, gardeners and cleaners.

Clearly you don't work for a vehicle licensing service. Usually you need a motorcycle licence to drive a vehicle with 3 wheels.

This has everything to do with moving a person around. It's a competition about who can move a person around using the least fuel.
But... the car might have had chemicals in it! He might have driven somewhere where he could have seen an exposed breast!
Won't someone please think of the boobies!
Sure! They've got a website and everything! http://goatse.cx/
(Seriously though, if you've somehow missed the joke, don't click that link!)
Everyone else will start doing it too, and he'll have to go back to his day job.

Hey, if a dude with a polearm walks up to me and tells me to say something, I'll do what he says!

How else do you expect NASA to test its heavy lift capacity?
It makes Bitcoin sound edgy and exciting.
Of course, I just realized that the ship has to go back anyway, calling myself stupid, so no-one else has to...
