    I'd hope that in the future they decide to start incorporating the frequently blocked sites into the algorithm to push them down the results for everyone's search, making the experience nicer for everyone.

    Is it an Akubra? I always thought it looked more like one of R.M.Williams' leather hats.

    In other news, my Dad and I are on a mission to lose at least one Akubra in every major international airport. So far we've hit Frankfurt, Dubai and Dallas. Any help would be appreciated.

    Tell him the truth: that we are making huge advances using unmanned probes, and that our telescopes are finding planets way outside our solar system that could sustain life. Maybe someday in the future it'll be worth our while to go up there ourselves.

    There are some problems that relate to the concept of ownership. This is not one of those problems.

    We in the real world decided some time ago that there are many issues where a pragmatic approach, ignoring philosophical consistency, gets the job done and allows us to get on with making the world a nicer place to live.

    I'm no football expert, so correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a huge part of the strategy the fact that it's so unexpected. Thus, if more people used it more people would expect it, so it'd be worth less, so less people would use it?

    Yes, but fact-free science is having more of an impact on social policies than actual scientific research. The problem isn't that the sum of human knowledge isn't increasing, but that it isn't being used to increase our quality of life.

    It isn't so much a partisan problem, Democrats suffer the same issues, it's something that we all need to work on.

    Yeah, the US system is much better. Your tax money went to 'loans,' to give the telcos money to expand their system, which never get paid back, then you still have to pay high prices for substandard internet connections. At least in Sweden they get stuff for their tax dollars.

    I think that's a sign of a bigger problem with these types of transactions being so far removed from what you can actually control. I can't think of a better way to do it that would still allow for small investors though, so we're kinda stuck.

    Well, compared to a lot of other stuff this isn't that bad, but then again, if it were spread across a wide area (for a big fibre network) it would be a bit of a hazard. A lot more of a hazard than silica at any rate.

    Selenium is quite rare, and zinc isn't super cheap, so it would be fairly expensive. There'll probably be some niche use for this, but it won't be knocking silica off it's perch any time soon.

    In Australia there was a drug dealer who was caught, but he claimed the drugs the police seized as a loss. He ended up having to fight it, but won in the end.

    You should read up on what Burt Cain has been doing to Louisiana's Angola Penetentiary(sp?). The prisoners there make crafts, which they sell direct to the public a few times a year during the prison rodeo. Several inmates get to go to churches around Louisiana to sing/preach etc. The prison is known as 'The Farm' because it is actually a farm, prisoners work the farm, and eat what is produced; this provides several benefits: cheap food, large areas of flat land make it harder to escape and learning skills as you talked about earlier.
