I'm not much of a Microsoft fan, and I wonder: does Bill Gates have the same status amongst MS fans as Steve Jobs has amongst Apple fans? Steve may be a massive bullshit machine, but no one can deny he has a near god-like status amongst Apple fans.
Come on guys! My 1300 MHz Duron with 512 MB can run Vista. And I'm lucky 'cause I have a videocard in it that even supports the fancy bits of this OS. But even without that it will run Vista quite well I'm sure. No more FUD please.
One look at this site and my headache non-mysteriously disappeared! Thanks,/. team, you really made my day. This is the greatest April Fools/. ever had!
I loved the zursor mouse. That is something that MS should have invented: a cursor-shaped thing to move your cursor! Wicked. Almost as shocking as the powerglove mouse.
I've never used a mighty mouse but I find it hard to believe that that one is even worse than the circular mouse that came with the first iMac. I've got one of those. In a box under my bed somewhere. Not only will it give you RSI after about 3 seconds, you never know which way it points when you grab it, and it has the infamous one button Apple loves and the rest of the world hates. How can a mighty mouse beat that when badness is the deciding factor?
What scares me big time is that we have been waiting nearly forever for Vista, and now it's postponed because they want to improve its security! That means MS has again focused on making the interface more shiny, instead of making the whole thing more secure. I wonder how many hours it will take before the first 'official' Vista box is hacked after the release in january.
Actually those 125 W are what is printed on the little stickers on the devices. I haven't measured the real consumptions, but usually these little stickers are pretty accurate.
Apparently if you make a website that is easy to navigate and understand, this website is by definition ugly. Thanks Taco, for making your beloved website so ugly we can read it well!
My six-year-old Iiyama 19" CRT at home performs a lot better than my 3-year-old Iiyama 17" LCD at work. And I'm also not so sure about LCDs being less power-hungry. A friend of mine has a 19" Philips LCD that uses 125 W; just as much as my 19" Iiyama CRT.
I guess Slashdot's picture of Gates as a Borg [slashdot.org] is applicable more now than ever... but, in my personal opinion, I kind of see this as a good thing.
You mean he is assimilated in the Unix-hive, don't you?;-)
Manna from heaven! Maybe that's the thing. Bill Gates has nothing to toss.

With genuine leather grip, for only USD 99,-
The first thing I thought when I read the title was: Hex! I read too much Pratchett...
And now we paint a happy little tree over here. ... And let's paint another one next to it so it doesn't feel so alone.
I loved Bob's shows.

Yeah, I miss them. Remember that April Fools day when Taco posted the same story like, 9 times or so? That was fun.

Poor poster, his serious Ask Slashdot is all pink. He can forget being taken serious today!

Good point. I completely forgot about that.

He lived in Delft for most of his life. Delft is a small town full of pricks. I know, because my brother lives there :-)
Why not try the Gimp? That runs on both platforms.

That's what I hate about Windows. The hugging. Uch, I hate being hugged.

Yep, it looks like Microsoft is about to invent UNIX.
That would be the greatest innovation in computing since the 1970's!

If you can't beat them, join them!
I made it to number 8, then I moved on to newer, more interesting news.
Mohammed lived a few hundred years after Jesus, so the Islam can never be more than 1.5 thousand years old!
Microsoft, however, contends it has gone above and beyond industry requirements for documentation.
I never knew there was such a thing as industry requirements for documentation.
