Hmmm, since you are AC I won't go too overboard in disputing your claims. Sadly I will at least whip you into some shape.
Jesus referred to having brothers and sisters, in Jewish language (He was Jewish) this most often translates back to cousins or relatives. Why would Jesus have needed James to take care of His Mother if He had siblings? The fact is that there were no others, and so the burden was undertaken by James. You have no proof that she was sinful in any way. The Bible does not once descrive, allude or foreshadow one single event that could be described as sinful. Thus, any doctrine or dogma put forth by the Catholic Church either via revelation or historical scientific research is far more reputable and reliable then some AC who is talking outta his ass. Please oh great AC, give me the passage in the Bible where Mary sins? Give me the names of Jesus' true genetic brothers and sisters?
CDs have been out for around 25 years...and "Bush, Motley Crue, Metallica, Rob Base, Run DMC and the likes" COMPLETEY mooched off of previous artists. Most of modern rock and rap has its roots in early 1900s music, specifically the 20s. When I say modern I mean within the last 20 years. Today's rehashing is NO DIFFERENT to yesterdays rehashing, there is just more of it. The problem is not crappy music, I can easily drop a list of 100 discs I would love to have. The problem is VALUE. Is there value in an aluminum disc that has about 1/10 the data on it than a DVD? The cost of CDS is too high, DVDs are dropping (in Canada many good discs can be had for 13.99 at Futureshop). CDs are notoriously over priced (average new disc is 15.99 average older disc 21.99). Therein lies the problem, not that the present day mooches are worse than the mooches from 10-15 years ago.
but he also acknowledges that effect. Of course he wants people to buy his cds...but if they don't he is still thrilled that they listen to his music. How do I know this? Because I have spoken with him first hand about this very issue. I met with him in NY 3 weeks prior to 9/11. He foreshadowed the sales of this album and his subsequent albums. Not only his, but other artists whose fan base consists of people over the age of 12. Spears...the boy bands...they will have greater sales because parents will buy the albums..because the RIAA pushes this crap on the radio and because the fans of people like Moby do infact download more than they buy. Again, he knows this and is not pushing people to stop the downloading, rather, he remarks that next time one hears a comment like: "what is this shit on the radio" we can attribute it to the lame ass spears/boybandoftheday/shit RIAA tinsonics that has demonstrated high sales. Essentially, download if you want..but don't complain when the stuff you want to hear isn't played.
Did the poster actually read the article? Again...the editors need to verify. There will not be a new $1.23 on ALL CD-RW media...actually this tax will only apply to CD-R audio and CD-RW Audio which are specifically designed for non-PC burning stations, i.e., a Philips CD player with dual decks, one for playing one for recording. This tax is large but one must recall the fact that there is already a $.77 tax on these media...so the end of the day total would be $.46 hike in the cost of this type. Regular CD-R and CD-RW taxes as of right now are $.21, the new PROPOSED tax is $.59 or a tax hike of $.38. Not that I am defending what is PROPOSED, or defending the RIAA, because I am not, but please don't freak out the entire Slashdot community with skewed information in order to get an article posted...
Tonight was the first night I replied to a funny post....who would have though two in the same night in the same thread? Damn man...I nearly wet myself! Congrats on making my night worth reading slashdot!
One can't help but feel sorry for people like this. This is a perfect example of the blatant ploys to monopolize cd sales that we have all been talking about. Of course they will stop at nothing to do it, they already do so! They pay people off, they corner the market, they squash competing products, alternative technology etc. The beauty of all of this is made more clear from the public. When they enter the equation with new knowledge, the companies HAVE to listen or they will lose their treasured moola. MP3s exist, if they die some new format will come forward. People are not willing to pay these stupid prices to line the pockets of rich arrogant bastards. This is only the beginning. Let them come up with new technology. Let them waste their money. We know that someone will circumvent this and we will once again be victorious in battling the Corporate Giants.
Historically, the reason for scientists to do research at a univeristy was because they had freedom to do whatever they wanted. There research was limited to their imagination and their grant money. Scientists interested in get-rich-quick schemes went to work for big companies who paid well, BUT, they could only do what they company wanted them to do.
Now, if Universities are able to cash in on the patents/research/inventions, who gets the money? Generally, universities own EVERYTHING the prof puts out, writes up, discovers, invents. If this remains the case, then how will this benefit anyone but the University Institution itself? It won't. The salary scientists will be in the same boat they were in before except now the Universities will not clamp down on super expensive experiments as they will hope to achieve some nice revenue from them. All in all, if the scientists still don't get paid, then the Schools are simply becoming big Corporations, more than before. Some schools already have CEOs instead of Chancellors... How crazy is that?
The RIAA believes they have the legal upper hand in the Napster cases etc. Napster and the gazillion fans downloading feel they have a legal right, or some of them do anyway. Fact is, Napster is helping "thieves" to commit their "crimes" but what about the RIAA? These record companies have made it possible to, through whatever seedy acts/deals, to commit their own crimes. If the RIAA is pissed about all the (pseudo)criminals out there, they need to look at the point of origin, which just happens to be the reflection in the mirror staring them in face.
If all this craziness is to stop, the prices must not only be regulated, but be ethically regulated.
This is typical of companies who want to monopolize the business. By seemingly controling the *cough* most prestigious movie awards, the academy and the big Hollywood companies hope to control for a while longer, the release and distribution of film... George Lucas will not win another Oscar unless he halts his life long ambition to do a movie without actors, just pure animation... The academy has been a long time fraud when it comes to rating movies, and this is one more step towards the downwards spirl which is Hollywood.
naturally, humans are designed to have flaws, even the "fittest" first fittest should be clarified to mean reproductive capability, and hence once that time in life has passed, latent genes which are malignant or at least disease causing, will still appear in the progeny. Our evolution has not stopped if evolution is actually a case to be discussed, rather we, using our medical technology have slowed it to a turtle's pace. Remeber mdrs and other naturally occuring resisters to cancer drugs. These proteins actually help us to die! We ourselves are pushing us to the limits but our bodies are still fighting to remain in union with mother nature and have the human race at large die at a reasonable age. We may extend our live cycle, but not indefinitely, we are evolving, our bodies are evolving ways to die.
hmmm, I'm Canadian and I take offense to your comment of blaming us... us canadians would not dare filter porn out, nor would we care about competitors logos, i mean just look at us now, we are becoming the 51st state! now is that a country trying to inhibit the MULTINATIONAL corps attempts at homogenizing the imagination of everyone? nope, we up here in Canada love being the US' kicking mule and gladly bend over for all the asinine Big Brother moves the retarded US Government tries. Don't blame us, blame your parents, their parents and your children, shit, they are the reason this is all happening right? your children... hmmm, perhaps Canada SHOULD invade and steal all your children, only to sell them back to you using your own economical warfare tactics. Ya that's it, we will sell them back to you at a premium, we will sell them to Kathy Lee and her company!! then we will see who controls the porn world! Skin tone recognition---> BLEH!!! Logo restriction--->BLEH!!! Making money by stealing American Juvies and reselling them to sweat shops---> Savy Scheme
Hey there, not to sound too much like a newbie cause I am not, but I have never heard the term smurf attack before... could someone tell me what it is?
Seriously, I have not laughed so hard in a long time... It has been far too long since anything on Slashdot has even made me smile... Thanks for this, it made my mono day seem better...
About 3 years ago I saw this great series about 3 or 4 brothers who each had a super power, I think it was called the Dragon Kings but I am not sure of the title... can anyone help me find out? one of the brothers could run really fast, one was a school teacher at the same private school his younger brothers attended, the parents are deceased (or were in the episode I saw... a link to a website would be great!
I know most of us may not have kids, but for those older geeks, I suggest Kiki's Delivery service... It is by the same guy who did Princess Mononoke, the art is great, the story is not horrible, and get this- THERE IS NO BAD GUY, VILLAIN, NEMESIS, ANTAGONIST!!!! It is perfect for kids, and for the true anime buff, they will appreciate its simplicity!
As a general improvement I would like to see embedded mp3s and/or streaming mp3s. Is it possible to embed mp3s yet? As for AI? i would enjoy seeing an improved search engine that would take into consideration the bowtie effect and give a more accurate search result.
I am a long time fan of role playing games. These games are well known among the geeks of the world, and the sole purpous of this type of merchandise is to make up stories, share them with friends and live out adventures vicariously through imaginary characters. If I were to post my adventures of say Star Wars, I would in fact being gift wrapping what I have already achieved via long hours of game play. Some of these adventures are worth a read... Why can't I share then what Lucasfilm for example has authorized for sale? I am not speaking about making money off of my writings, only the sharing of knowledge, adventures and memories of some well loved characters... I say relax almighty rich ones... leave us to our fun. We make you more money because of it.
Ditto in Canada We know about Microsoft, we despise Microsoft, and the trend for open source OS' is coming alive. We have the Brit spelling and the American pronunciation. The grammar checker drives me buggy everytime I use it!

The dogma of Papal infallibility was only instituted in the early 1900s.
You're comment is a vastly erroneous.
Do you have a link to both the of the FTC's findings?
Very well put...love the sig which ties in so well with the above statement!
