I don't even know who Sabrina Matthews is, and I was not trying to be funny, just stated the obvious. Seems anyone who has actually heard the song and taken grade 9 English should have been able to come to the same conclusion.

  2. Re:Slashdot rejected my ask slashdot submission on Why Have Movies Been So Bad Lately? · · Score: 5, Funny

She didn't kill irony. Infact, she personified it by not mentioning a single ironic thing in her entire song yet entitled the song "Ironic".

At best some lines indicated what some my call cosmic irony, yet most would claim these situations are merely unfortunate, as were the remaing situations, thus perhaps leaning towards "Unfortunate" as a prefered title.

  3. Their perspective is a good thing! on RIAA Claims P2P Has Been Contained · · Score: 1

Whether or not what he declares is true (proliferation of P2P sites like mininova, isohunt, piratebay), if they see it that way, then that means Joe Six Pack, Grandma and little 12 year old Josie down the street can rest easy.

Will copyright infringement every die out? Likely not. Will P2P continue, legit or not? Of course. If the RIAA is finally making money off of downloads, enough to have them decide to discontinue their draconian efforts of threatening, suing and *ahem* breaking the law by compromising PC's, then hey I'm all for this! Congrats on meeting up with the rest of the world in the year 2006.

Considering most users like to install the latest kitchy program, I would assume it would be quite a trial in the current format, to have a user run without admin access. I could only imagine the calls the local techy friend would get, instead of "can you pleeeeease come and fix my malwared/spywared/virused/trojanned/fubar'd computer" it will now be "can you pleeeease come and install happybloggeryp2pdownloadmeforfreeporntoday.exe"

Agreed, however, in terms of the parent's example...until Ubuntu decides to include the latest stable version of a program into their respository, you can't just go through Update Manager and get it. I'm still waiting on a modern version of Firefox, I'll have to wait until Dapper Drake unless I want to install from source.

Though you are definitely correct, with Wine or better yet, Cross Over Office from Code Weavers, Office is flawlessly working in my place of employment. Now, to be fair, I can only get 2000 to install perfectly (and the version preceding it) but the rest of my office doesn't use anything beyond 2000 and all the workstations not running linux are using the latest Windows 2000 build anyway. So the point is moot. For most things, Office 2000 would suffice but 2003 and certainly Office 12 would be wonderful to run on linux for those who always want the latest and greatest. In time, I'm sure it will happen.

  7. Re:Rejection on Forbes Says Vista Not People Ready · · Score: 1

Using Code Weaver's Cross Over Office, I have PS 7.0 installed and it works flawlessly. Admittedly, I don't use many extensions and plugins for it but it sure beats using GIMP! COO is cheap for what it can do and the great thing is that one could use MS Office if the so desired, the emulation programme just works.

  9. Re:Huh? on Gay Guild Recruitment Disallowed From WoW? · · Score: 1

Beyond the "WoW kinda sucks anyway" I think this post makes a lot of sense and cuts the heart of the matter. It's a game. A game wherein the characters, though male and female, don't have "parts" per say. This is not a relationship dating service. This is a fantasy game. Fantasy in the folkorian sense, not the sexual sense. I think people are simply too gungho to express themselves and in some ways "shove it in others' faces." There is simply no logical need for a GLBT's guild the same as there is no logical need/sense for a Straight only, or a White only, or Black only guild. Now if there was a human only guild or a wizard only etc. Makes far more sense no? Oh wait..there are such guilds...in a game where these guilds are rational and pertinant to game play. Blizzard gets my vote for making a solid and intelligent decision

  10. Re:I don't buy music on Dealing with Digital Music and Vendor Lock-In? · · Score: 1

I suggest instead of not buying any music. Perhaps expand your musical horizon and search out bands that do not fall under the RIAA's vast membership. In this way you can still support bands who make music you enjoy and still stick it to the RIAA. I've been doing this for a few years now. All the better! I've been exposed to quality music time and time again.

  11. Re:Attack the messenger (please) on Vatican Rejects Intelligent Design? · · Score: 1

This comes directly from the properly translated commandment of "thou shall not murder" vs. the often mistranslated: "thou shalt not kill." In the case of abortion, the Catholic Church holds that it is always murder, whereas with the death penalty and in war, often times, it is not murder. Though in both the latter cases, obviously murder can still occur and thus the Church maintains a strong stance against both, though not opposing them outright.

  12. Re:Attack the messenger (please) on Vatican Rejects Intelligent Design? · · Score: 1

You can be 100% sure it's not true. I'm a canon lawyer as well as a theologian. JPII never stated such a thing, nor even hinted at it. In fact in his seminal work on the theology of human sexuality (Theology of the Body) he goes to great lengths to assert otherwise. All such assertions of course being historical tenets of the Catholic Faith, not to mention being reaffirmed in the Encyclical Humanae vitae of Paul VI. Contraception is contrary to how Catholics view sexuality and the dignity of creation and the act of procreation. The use of contraception will never be sanctioned by the Church. Some theologians go so far as to claim Humanae vitae as an infallible document. Though not declared as such, it comes close to holding all the necessary elements to be infallible as per canon 749.

I own a 60 gig iPhoto and frankly I'm salivating over the 4g black Nano. Why? Because it is smaller, no HD to bust up and can easily be worn on my arm during a workout. thus far I have relied on an MD unit for workouts and on the go travelling, but now the Nano will do what I need save for capacity. For that I have the 60g iPhoto, a portable amp and a high quality set of headphones for work and school.

Considering that the majority of porn employs drug addicts it is quite sad that one would even hint that porn is empowerment for the women. In fact, women who are in a dire situation turn to porn because it is a quick buck for their next fix. Perhaps anyone feeling porn at large is a means of empowerment actually do some research or take a socially class, particularly one that offers a perspective from a feminist who feels it is harmful to women and one that does not to get both perspectives. The data however does not lie. Few porn stars are in it for empowerment, most are in it for the drugs.

I felt the same way you did and I went with a Karma. Problem was...3 weeks after owning it, the thing crapped out on me. No it was not the HD, even though they have been plagued with problems and have apparently been solved, but instead my issues was that the unit would not power off, or power on for that matter. Unacceptable. I went back to the store I purchased the unit from and was informed that Rio was phasing the product out, that new units were no longer available and that any units in circulation were now being clearanced.

What options was I left with?

    1) money back
    2) pump money into another product

I took the second option and bought an iPod Photo. Yes, I miss my gapless but the unit works and I don't have to worry about it being phased out any time soon. The instant true gapless is available again on a quality unit I will look to sell my iPod but until then, I feel it is one of the top contenders on the market, and the 60 gig HD is quite nice. Blows the 20 gigs of the Karma out of the water.
