I think making it illegal will be difficult. I look at it as reinforcing our need for good news/information sources so we can hopefully see through the bull shit. Unfortunately as we see a rise in propaganda and "AstroTurfing" we are also seeing the demise of independent quality news media. Very scary that these monolithic companies are also the ones that bring most of us the news. When we can't even determine that "Cable Companies Use Astroturfing To Fight Net Neutrality" because no one reports on it, and the reporting simply reflects these corporations stance on issues, then our democracy will really be kaput.

This is an inane argument. It makes me angry. This attitude weakens democracy. It reminds me of people that have never voted but bitch about their elected officials.

    The post office is irrelevant?

    What the fuck?

Giving the government control just means you've given whomever has control the power of the government.

Did they teach you that in civics class? I am pretty confident that the USPS and my municipal ISP are not "out to get me". In fact I am fairly confident that the majority of the people elected to the muni are good people with a sense of civil responsibility (i.e. public servants). Are there some bad eggs? Sure. The fact is we can still hold government more accountable than a Fortune 500 company. I own stock in my government, not Comcast

Maybe you should get some help. Can you show me on this doll where the government touched you?

Maybe this is not a valid point as in this day and age most people will have at least one gmail or yahoo account already. If given the option to choose a username I wonder how many people will select something based of their name anyway,
