Though, if repealed, the oil companies would just pass the additional costs onto the consumers.

Yeah? So? Let them do it and price themselves right out of the market. The subsidies are designed to keep the public dependent on fossil fuels. If they actually had to compete with alternatives, those alternatives would get a foothold.

No, the "liberals" being discussed here are the same ones that tell the rest of us that we must make sacrifices, that we must cut back. They expect us to ride the bus, but they won't provide the fundage. They'll just raise taxes. They are as phony as three dollar bills, and no different from the so called "conservatives". They're both top down types who want control. And both use their money to keep it.

I'm not from the US. Where I'm from, there's no liberal/conservative dichotomy.

No? I suppose there's no rich/poor dichotomy either? No social stratification of any kind?

Read the 9th Amendment... The government only has the authority explicitly written into the document. That's life in a world run by savages...

You neighbor's wifi doesn't count for obvious reasons. We'll have to build our own.. from scratch... that's invincible... We need people with the resources that are willing to do so.

But they're an "ally", economic, military, and otherwise.. They are a safe haven for blood money, lots of it. So they can be as scummy as they want.. That's what predatory capitalism is all about.. And the only people who get in trouble are those who try to point that out. That aspect seems to be getting more prevalent these days, as illustrated by the wikileaks thing.

It is simply the logical thing to do. Efficiency is the goal. And it will meet as much resistance as your random airport searches. So docile people have become that anyone who opposes the authorities is now looked down upon as a malcontent and a loon, or worse, an enemy collaborator. The mission has indeed been accomplished. Hearts and minds have been won over. The spirit has been dispatched. And complacency, the desire for convenience has become the routine.

Because American are letting their wages and working conditions decline. They don't have to, but they are. It's like they've just given up... Acquiescing to whatever authority tells them to... "for the children" or "their own safety". Americans go down on their knees to it, while in China, where it is expected (by western standards), is turning out to be full of surprises. American politics has become a farce. And for such a young country, its demeanor is more like that of a grumpy old man that completely collapses with the slightest disruption. Or screams like a little girl when it sees a mouse, then wants to nuke it. A real flash in the pan it is turning out to be. It literally is crumbing before our eyes. China isn't putting the US into its coffin. The Americans put themselves there. The only thing they want is to beat up the kid, for the wife to bring the beer (Goddammit! You think it opens itself? WHACK!), and put on the game, and TV dinner hot and on the table precisely at six. It's like a demented version of the Honeymooners.
