While I agree with most of your points, I think that you're doing something wrong if you'd be up for a large sum of money in case when your card is lost. Why not have a subaccount in your bank, that has no access via a card and where you put all the savings? I never have more than 2-5 hundred bucks on the account accessible via debit card.
With all the advancements in bioengineering, do you think that at some time "biohackers" will emerge that will divert animal or human genomes to do what they want? Do you think that "social engineering" will one day be helpful in making someone share his/her genetic material so it can be hacked?
Sure, lawyers are the only ones who must train/update, manage and have other overheads. No other occupation has it as uphill as them. If only lawyers would be treated specially by the law, if number of lawyers was artificially limited, and if the law would force other people to use their services every time they sell a damn house... oh wait.
He's said himself that _suspicion_ of modifying his phone woule be enough.
Of course a handful of people refusing to buy the phone won't stop them but it doesn't stop me thinking it's completely wrong to not accept such stuff from Apple, Sony, etc. but still buy their hardware.
As a person who lives in Poland, Europe and used to envy US people because of their cheap and broad internet access in times when I had to pay about 20% of national average income just to get 30 hours of dial up per month, I'm quite confused.
Are USA recessing so much into dark ages? Not only You start teaching "Intelligent Design" as a scientific theory at schools, but also have the weirdest patent and copyright issues in the world; there's no other country where law is as offensive and counter-people as in the USA (think millions of damages per mp3 song, etc) Now I hear that one can barely get 3Mbps in US cities - come on, is it true?? I have an ADSL with 30Mbps down- and 3Mbps up-link for about 50$ per month, sans any transfer limits. It is in Poland, which used to be quite far behind other EU countries. Are USA getting behind even us?

How is it generic, the guy who opened the door for them was "Christian Shepard", for fuck's sake!
Just thinking out loud, but...
If I don't know a thing about electricity and don't want to learn it, I pay a specialist that will put wires in my walls and install switches and devices for my convenience. Nobody thinks about making DIY wiring that would be easy enough for an average American Housewife to install.
Why are computers always treated differently than other necessary stuff people have at home? Why is it OK to pay thousands of dollars for water or electric installations at your home, but it would be wrong to pay a few hundred for a proper computer network installation? If you can't do it alone, don't do it. And, it's fine by the way, because noone is able to learn everything and be good at it.

We base our scale on earths diameter -- it's 2D on the picture, it's not a dimensionless point.
Shouldn't she be suing the thief that sold her the laptop instead of a software manufacturer?
You'd probably have a hard time getting mine. Or do you live nearby?
The most holes where in people's minds -- it was usually enough to make a few phone calls, I believe.
For you, after posting this question - it's not possible ;-)

...since I don't think they wash their clothes ;-)
The USB vacuum cleaner will surely suck.
Sure, if you only sell ONE copy, you're right.
Don't forget about mice - they are the most intelligent beings on Earth :-)
Hey, "face" is a copyrighted word, stop using it!

And you've bought the phone anyway. What do you think is going to stop them from such practices? Government? Or declining sales?
Will people be born under the sign of *broken* snake, etc? ;-)
Oh, I have this "n" card in my laptop and Windows says I have a "300mb/s" connection - if only those bastards didn't throttle meh down ;-)
It surely *was* very cost effective for the first advertiser that has done that -- look, they're all over the news, even on Slashdot!

Use rdiff-backup, it makes a mirror copy of the latest version and also stores older backups as increments. It's very fast and stable.
