Mod parent "glad there's still people like you on the road"
Back-up cameras may have their uses - but backing up your two-ton vehicle while looking at your dashboard is not going to make it any safer. It ends up just being another feel-good measure that removes a drivers awareness of their surroundings. I understand the intention is to give the driver a quick glance at what is below their line of sight out the rear before they turn their heads to actually back up (where they can see other obstacles coming from the sides), but how many will do that? Parent poster is an exception here, most drivers don't take their driving as seriously.
Considering how many orders of magnitude more valuable time goes into debating the implications of Lindsay Lohan's dessert choice last night - I'm still gonna chaulk this one up to "everybody needs to chill out."
I'm pretty sure you live on a different planet Earth than I do. On mine, not everything is so absolute - things are open to interpretation and I like it that way. I particularly like that some people in *my* planet Earth still have a modicum of respect for context.
Leave chopping up quotes and applying your own meaning to them to the 24 hour news outlets - they're way better at it than you are.
I know plenty of people who came from "poor and dumb" backgrounds who are extremely intelligent and, more importantly, quite motivated to make something of themselves. How many middle class people do you know who were born well enough off and just ended up lazy and apathetic - to become poor and dumb in adulthood?
I think we'll find the stew will just keep churning...
After giving my dog baths for several years now, I'm convinced that her running around manic after a bath is not joy at being alive - it's joy at being out of the bath. However, at a bit heavier than three pounds, I can't afford to start giving her any room to argue the point if she wants to be somewhere I don't want her to be.
Trying to find the mod for "Truth that nobody really wants to hear" but it's not on the drop down list... Seriously, how many of us geeks shun and boycott Apple or Microsoft or whomever simply because that company (or its customers) have their heads up their arses? It's the principle of the thing, dagnabbit, we can *do* this!
You honestly think that the lawyer in this case deserves to get over double the payout that the students received?
That's a bit of a stretch... Most of this discussion has been about how useless and evil lawyers are. I certainly agree that 2/3 of the settlement is ridiculous, but AC's point isn't about the value of the settlement and fee, it's that without a lawyer working on contingency there wouldn't be much to do to stop the spying. Now it would be nice if this would have been sorted out in a criminal court... I find the whole idea of "somebody fucked up, how do I get paid?" to be absolutely revolting.
What monitors do you recommend that have worthwhile vertical viewing angles? I tried rotating one of my screens but it seems the cheapo Dell displays at my office just aren't designed for above/below viewing. Makes me wonder who was on the design team that thought adding rotation to a cheap panel that has no vertical viewability was a good idea...
According to the wikipedias, endurance horseback races can be up to 100 miles per day - but that is for only the tip top competitors on a single day trip (with regular supply intervals). Riding for multiple days carrying all the gear? 30 miles a day would probably be pretty optimistic on *good* roads. Kudos to your stepmom - a century is a tough ride (and two is ridiculous!!), but could she cover 100 miles a day, every day for a week, while carrying all of the food for the trip *and* a day or three worth of water? How about on a dirt road or trail? Hopefully you're seeing that it's not entirely fair to compare the range of a horse on a trail with that of a human with a machine on a good road.
If you need to cover a lot of ground and don't have a good machine *and* good roads to do it, you have to expect it to go pretty slow.
I'm pretty sure that's where they think he hid the stolen diamonds.

Isn't there some point where we realize Iran is a sovereign nation and as such is well within their rights to pursue nuclear technologies? Did Siemens directly violate trade embargoes? If that's the case, that's where you take them to the task. I haven't followed this issue so I don't know if Siemens violated any laws on the matter, but if it's a "well, I just don't think those guys should have that stuff..." public sentiment issue, I don't see why they would (or should) care.
Have you seen what they try to pass off as ball in a cup games these days? I saw one which was injection molded - string, ball, and everything - in one shot! Ball in a cup is already a damn challenging game, now throw in a string which exerts noticeable force on the ball in unpredictable directions! Modern technology just ruins EVERYTHING! I'm gonna go dig a hole with a stick.
Once you have someone that believes in god, well, that's a bottom line.
No... Once some "gut feeling" or faith becomes the bottom line, it's not god but ignorance you're fighting. The vast majority of people who believe in God (or whatever name he/she/it goes by in your neck of the woods) don't treat it as the end-all answer for anything. Those that do are ignorant, stupid, and unscientific. You'll find plenty of respectable scientists who are religious - when they discover something neato they think "so *that's* how you did it, Mr. God," and we all benefit as a result.
I don't understand why the spectrum has "science" on one side and "God" on the other. God has nothing to do with science. Generating and feeding the whole god vs science discussion only drives folks who believe in God to ignore new findings and be ignorant. God isn't provable or disprovable and there is no point where scientists will be able to say "there is no God, and here is my proof:" There really is no reason to fan the flames. Attacking somebody isn't going to make them suddenly say "Y'know, you've made some good points. I'll join your team." - it will make them defensive and much less rational than they'd otherwise be.
Well, I wouldn't be surprised if some of those answers were from those in the top IQ brackets. The question from TFA was:
"As far as you know, does the earth revolve around the sun or does the sun revolve around the earth?"
Which can certainly go either way depending on how you derive your coordinates. Considering that any point in space can only really be defined relative to another point in space, it all depends on which point you pick first. I, as any red-blooded American would, naturally pick myself as the origin.
Well - we can turn that into a bit of analogy. If Islamic people were burning bibles and flags on a lot they had rented from you - a place that still reflects on you, would you feel differently? I'm not going to pretend I know the right answer here, just posing the question. The main issue I have is that it is a deliberate action whose sole purpose is to offend somebody else. Doesn't matter if it's bibles, korans, or dr suess. I'm not sure I'd call it "hate speech" - but I'd definitely call it "douchebag speech" and would not be keen to have it happen on my yard.

It's called a "tweet"... How seriously can you really take it?

This is terrifying! I think I just wet myself...
That is, when you could actually get it to start.

Wasn't there a time when we dreamed of having 21" CRTs on our desks?

No, that can't be right... You can't steal virtual diamonds - virtual diamonds *want* to be free!

Clearly, so when are you releasing your next MMO?
