  1. Not My SQL on Why Not MySQL? · · Score: 1
    MySQL doesn't have:
    Record locking;
    every serious db-application, web-based or not, needs locking on record-level; table-locking will not do.

    Transactions / Rollback.
    If a database has rollback-options, you can use those to back out of complex update; without rollback, you need a lot more code.

This looks like a massive waste of trees, a more interactive way would be an good initiative.

    I don't think that I am fighting the wrong fight here!

    Instead of whining and complaining, just try to set up your own record company, and try to sell your music in another way than CD's. I think that if you would try that, your company wouldn't last very long, because everybody would be copying and stealing your music. You just try to think of a way to distribute music AND make (some) money at the same time (not the same amount as the big record companies, those b*astards make way to much money).

    I think it simply like this: I make something, and other people can buy that, whatever the form. The things that I make can be physical objects, but also advice or a service of some kind.

    No matter how you label things, it's still theft!

    I thinkt that that is not the point; this is all about having choices! It maybe true that everyone wants a pc, but it would be very nice if you could choose what OS and what software to run. And that has not been the case in the last few years; thanx to the attitude of Microsoft you had no choice but to use their software. And there is no way you can convince me that a monopoly is good for either the market as a whole or for innovation! br

Intelligence is definately not an end-goal of evolution, it's just one of the ways in which life can develop. What is relevant is the eventual decline in curiosity as ability and technology increase. I think it is a bit arrogant to believe that in the near future all the mysteries will be solved. At least 50 to 75% of the work will never see the daylight in terms of new software; but if you don't try, nothing ever changes. I think the only thing that can be done is to make ends meet, and try to work with the available budget (if any); I really wouldn't know how to get the public's attention. Maybe make space the new and exciting location for a new gameshow? ;)
