I don't really see how a DOS batch file (which "Hard Drive Killer Pro" is, and a bad one at that) can physically damage the hard disk, let alone really wipe the data out to the point of non-recoverability...?
If you are a script kiddie, at least do it on Linux.
"...That's where I've gone beyond the old form of command lines, and adopted the idea that issuing commands via a few alphabetic keystrokes is one of the best ways of operating a computer...."
Commands as pre-set keywords? I wonder where he got that idea.....;)
True....about 6 months ago I reached the point of saturation with E (read - didn't want to buy new video card just to be able manipulate windows fast enough), so I went back to the bare bones FVWM. After the initial shock (no docking bars, cartoon icons and Hollywood style special effects), I actually started enjoying its....minimalism....:)
As for speed - it probably improved at least 10-fold, which comes as no surprise, considering just how basic FVWM is.
This post prompted me to do some digging, since I also remember text-based version of WP for Linux.
The only difference is that I remember it as version 7, or maybe 8, not 5.1...anyhow....
...apparently, WP console *IS* alive and well, but looks like you'll have to pay for it, most likely a lot. Corel sells something called "Corel® WordPerfect® 8 for Linux® (Retail Server Edition" that includes what you need : "Corel WordPerfect 8 for Linux Character Terminal Binary for non-GUI terminal users". I found this on their official web page at:
http://linux.corel.com/products/wp8/features.htm#b reakdown
I also tried to find some (any) references to pricing for this beast, to no avail - it is conspicuously missing from price lists for all the retailers and resellers I could think of (including Ingram Micro's)...
What to do? The best bet is probably to wait out until Corel officially embraces MS.NET and abandons their Linux strategy and see what happens...they'll either dump WP Linux altogether, give it out for free or something similar, so you (we) will be able to pick up the pieces and make it work the way you want to...:)
How interesting - they went to the other country with laws different from US laws, and now want to change them to suit their needs..... Kind of like I come to visit you in your house , and in the process I rearrange your furniture, because I don't like the layout.
It is very simple - Australian government won't let Microsoft "compete" the way Microsoft wants to - by shoving Microsoft approved broadband providers down their throats.
Leave them alone - after all, it's their country!
Heh, the moment I saw "...BeOS's wonderful file system (where attributes are stored with the files" the HPFS flag went up pretty much the same way as it did for you....:)
BTW, last week my company did some cleaning and was ready to throw away 4 generations of OS/2
(2.1, Warp 3, Warp 3 Connect and Warp 4)...I promptly scooped them all up and just for fun loaded Warp 3 Connect on an aging Deskpro/166/64...and man, did that thing fly!
Ahhh, good old days....Somehow I still hope IBM will come to its senses and resurrect OS/2 development.....
Also, the MacOS sounds are in stereo - on example, if you drag a window from left side of the desktop to right, the sound will get accordingly weaker in the left speaker and stronger in the right one, following your actions.
This effect applies to all system sounds, so you can tell where your cursor is.
Apple has been selling something similar for quite a while.
Might not be 200ppi, but it is 22 inch and it is available now:

How about Enlightenment through reading this book?
Like - you read, get the ideas and get enlightened?
enlighten (n-ltn)
v. tr. enlightened, enlightening, enlightens.
To give spiritual or intellectual insight to: "Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppression of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day" (Thomas Jefferson).
To give information to; inform or instruct.
I dunno, works for me.
The only problem I see here is - where is my next month rent and bread/butter/cheese/beer coming from? I am very passionate about my work, but I am ever more passionate about sustaining my life through eating and having a roof over my head.
Well, since Citrix just released Metaframe for UNIX(http://www.citrix.com/products/metaframe/unix /), I don't quite see the reason for Tarantella's existence, especially if it's as slow as some are suggesting.
Metaframe now runs on Solaris, AIX and HP-UX, soon most likely on Linux too (if Citrix has any business sense). It is blazing fast both over dial-up and LAN conection.
I actually have 800XL and I know that that was not MS, so I didn't even mention it in my post. Commodore 64 and TRS-80 did use it. Was it an OS? Probably not. It could save files to tape, though, print to printers etc., so it had some rudimentary i/o built in.
Hey, hey, easy now....:) ...I know CP/M was Digital Research, but the hardware card was made by Microsoft, sold under name Microsoft CP/M Softcard. It contained Z80 processor, some extra RAM and the CP/M OS. I just re-read my post (WUI - written under the influence), and I can see why you came to the conclusion that I think MS made CP/M - bad sentence structure. Mea Culpa.
Lower prices and "innovations" aside, pretty much all of the machines you mentioned (Commodore, TRS-80, TI99/4A - although I am not sure about that one) actually used Microsoft software - in the form of BASIC language. Even on the Apple platform (II, IIe, etc) one of the best-selling add-ons was CP/M card, which consisted of Z80 processor, some RAM and CP/M OS - which was coincidentally also made by Microsoft.
Processor cooling? Pffftt! I am pretty sure that the small fridge on the bottom could easily handle more than that. KryoTech should come up with Renegade Deluxe case that has a round slot (preferrably motorized) on front where one could insert a 32oz can of beverage of choice (Dew, Jolt, beer) for cooling. It would also include cross-platform Cool Alerter (TM) software that would monitor the temperature of the drink and notify you when the drink is ready. Now, *that's* the case I would buy!
Or worse yet - if you die within 90 days from the time of purchase, how will you be able to claim your refund?
I agree. Kinda reminds me of poking fun at mumbling hobos or agents of the Lord (tm) on street corners.
This is just what our fearless leader BillG predicted in his visionary book "The Road Ahead" (revised and updated edition), way back in 1995:
Interactive Television is the "Next Big Thing! (tm)
(Bill, 5:108 - "From Internet to Highway")
I know it's proprietary, but it works with Linux very well:e atures

Sinclair ZX Spectrum forever!

Hope this helps, as bleak as it may sound.

I find your comment incredibly offensive and ignorant. Is this because you are Chinese?
Think before you post, moron.

What do you mean? It came from C|Net, the most accurate and trustworthy news source on the whole Internet.
One heck of a profession!
Maybe LEGO should come up with certification or something:
LCBB - LEGO Certified Block Builder

One word: Claustrophobia
Just by looking at the pictures I got shortness of breath and sweaty palms. I won't even dare to check out the AVIs.
