    They do indeed own Windows... when you "buy a copy" of Windows, you are simply buying a license to use it (and incidentally getting a distribution of it).

    1) you are correct, VISUAL STUDIO has a great debugger for its products - but that isn't .NET per se. The VC++ debugger is hands down the best in the industry but...

    2) gdb will do everthing VCDB does, just not as easily (ok not even remotely as easily)

    3) there are guys/gals at my work who write very tight code under gcc - they rarely need a debugger anyway. Their debugging is almost all done at design time

    Posts like that are just going to rile up their audiance and deserve their low score. Grow up.

    Some flamebait of my own: I will try to not look down my nose at you for being a VB "programmer."

    Hey, capitalism - a blessing and curse all in one... just ask Indian consulting firms and the laid off American workers they replaced.

    Look - MS has won. You are all right - their software sucks (but is Good Enough apparently), their business practices are flat out BS... but like it or not, people want Windows.

    Not Linux. Not FreeBSD - which is dead :-) - and a few want OS X. Hey I personally think they are all neat in their own ways... and interesting from an academic perspective in others. Believe it or not I dropped out of a PH. D. program in Virology so Windows is somewhat compelling to me. haw

    I really don't know why yins are so up in arms about MS's strong arm tactics. After all, DeBeers and OPEC make them look absolutely saintly - where is the geekesque indignity over them? Hey I guess we all think globally and act locally right?

    If you think outsourcing overseas isn't an end run around US labor laws then you don't deserve the salary you seem to crow about.

    Plus, keep in mind that there is a younger guy in India who can do your job for four figures.

    How could you truly enjoy a job when you know that in the US you could make 9x more for the same effort?

    People don't want Linux, people don't want Open BSD, a very very few artsy fartsy people want OSX. ;-)

    What people want is Windows.
