Last refuge of the American tech worker. (We'll see how long that lasts.)
The rest of the world wonders why America has suddenly taken to blowing up small nations... when many of the only moderately secure jobs in the US are in the defense sector.
The emphasis is on less money, not better. BUt I digress. I agree - companies should and do hire whomever they want.
However, this should only be the case of other nation, specifically the G8, are held to the same standard. Which they are not. German companies are currently looking to the US with envy... they want to dump their expensive German workers for cheap Chinese and Indians. Fairly draconian immagration law there currently makes this practice less than feasible.
In Ireland, we saw a different phenom: the jobs simply picked up and moved to Poland and Russia.
So. Keep up youy Anti American rhetoric... but don't cry in your beer to us when you come to work, notice a stench of curry in the air, and find some coolie sitting at your desk.
>> I'd be interested to see what kind of weapon they're planning to pop out the bottom of this thing @ Mach 6. Doesn't seem like a terribly bright idea...
...is not up to par. Everyone knows this to be the case.
Hence, the absence of interstellar probes. No one is even so much as planning one, or is going to plan one in the next 50 years. Even then it would be pie in the sky, barring some miracle.
However, figure the energy output of one shuttle launch. I would bet (pure speculation at work here) that it equals the entire energy output of the Roman Empire for quite a long time. A flashlight would literally be a "magic wand" to the Romans.
on each ship, the other appears to be appraoching at a speed approaching the speed of light.
on a 'stationary point between, each ship appears to be approaching at thier respective speed, but the rate of closure appears to be approaching the speed of light.
I think that is how it goes.
I know, makes no sense except to the guy whose avatar is beside this story!
No. Imagine a train at rest. The engineer decided to back up. Boom boom boom go all the cars in sequence as the slack between them is eliminated by the cars compressing together. Finally, the caboose moves. Same deal with matter, but on a much smaller and faster scale, involving molecules and atoms.
Actually, and believe you me I am no damn physicst (can't even spell it), a photon has no "resting mass", but does have momentum, which implies that there is an upper limit to is mass which cannot be zero.
WTF does that mean? Dunno. OK screw that. No more Wiki for me.
Seriously - why do you want to use and open source OS at all given your frame of reference? VxWorks, QNX, Windows XY, there are a mariad of closed source OS's out there that would fit your needs.
Consider open sourcing your work. I think you wil find that if your product is good, most people will not be interested in the slightest about your code, and your competitors will for the most part play by the rules.
Here is a question of my own - can you charge exra for the code and still be GPL compliant?
Not an end all cure, and won't help in the cases where you absolutely NEED dynamic allocation... but as a practice you will find this to greatly decrease your memory woes.
When a junior dev shows me C++ code using pointers I tell him to rethink his implementation so that it doesn't use pointers.
In the hands of a master pointers an dynamic memory allocation are great.... but judging by the way everything seems to leak and leak copiously there are very few "masters" out there.
And watch it be ignored... just as the entire GPL is orgnored when OSS is used in a military project.
But seriously, consider your statement. Where you you draw the line? Software that targets and guides weapons? Software the runs surveillance radar? Software that sends classified email? Software that schedules material shipments to forward posts? No use by any military whatsoever for any reason?
In todays world damn near anything is a weapon of mass destruction, if you apply a bit of liberal logic to it. A box cutter, in the right place, can destroy several blocks of downtown New York. Software is no different.
The US BMD system - even if placed in an optimal position in Russia itself - would have absolutely no effect on a Russian attack even if it scored 100% against the attack.
The US knows this. The Russians know this.
Draw a great circle from central Iran to Washington DC. This path will not quite cross Poland - where the US wants to place their base - but coes damned close. Poland is a perfect place for such a base to counter an (admittedly somewhat vapourous) Iranian threat.
Russia justs needs an excuse to rile their citizens, rattle their rusty sbaers, and try to pretend like they are still a superpower (which they never actually really were).
So be it.
A better way to counter the threat is to just destroy any Iranian launch facilities now. God knows Bush is chomping at the bit for yet another oil war.
So one day you log on to WOW and that sword that cost 10 gold peices or whatever is now 17?
I have never played WOW, but I suspect this does not happen.
But you see... that isn't how it works. Mexican would still be cheaper than American's so your maid wouldbe Mexican.
However, the guy who takes your job....
This already happened... in the great depression.
That is a good point.
With this sort of practice highlighted in the article, there will be a lot more of what you are pointing out going on.....

Already do this. Hell, the Atari 2600 did this 30 years ago.
Next!

So depoly them from the rear of the aircraft.
Inflation. Deflation. Banks. Interest rates.
Wait... most people play a game to escape from that crap.
Sorry, bad idea.

Revisit this argument in two hundred years.
In 1979 you might have had a point. Not today.

No. It would not. The bullet would appear to do many different things, depending on your frame of reference.
None of them involve the bullet appearing (or actually) attaining or surpassing the speed of light regardless of the frame of reference.
for your project(s).
There you go - do as you like!
Seriously - why do you want to use and open source OS at all given your frame of reference? VxWorks, QNX, Windows XY, there are a mariad of closed source OS's out there that would fit your needs.

Avoid heap allocation if at all possible.

Sure - insert the cluase.
And watch it be ignored... just as the entire GPL is orgnored when OSS is used in a military project.

The bartender - for serving them alcohol.
The smacker is a victim of society, the smackee is just a plain ol' victim.

...tend to be better at sex.
Penis'? Penisae? Whatever. If you know the correct plural form for 'penis' then I suspect a character fault.
....in a decidedly nonlinear fashion.
WTF - sure it is a monumental task to come up with a great story line. But after Season 3 I would be overjoyed with mediocre.
This, from a huge fan.
That's all I got on that!

After all, it *is* on the internet - hence can be taken as gospel.
Perhaps he should Wiki his life!
