you port your apps to alternate OSen first before the competition!
If Apple ever pulled thier heads out of thier ass and ported Quicktime including the software to stream it,
Quicktime would be a relevent streaming technology!
If this story is true it looks like M$'s Mediaplayer will get there first, Apple loses again.
Backstabing goes on all the time in the Opensource world. It happens when you download a set of Debian floppy disk and install it without making a donation to Debian. It happens when you buy magazines like Maximum Linux install those distro's that ship with the magazines, without buying the boxed set. It happens when you turn your nose up at the thought of even buying a boxed distro because it's too much when you can download what you want for free.Thats ok though, because people fuck with people all the time, but correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the Opensource movement was supposed to be based on the idea of a "gift" culture. You know, I give you something and then you give something back?
All i see are a bunch of kids complaining about the high cost of software and turning to Linux as a solution.
I wonder if the Opensource Movement would be as strong as it is today if Microsoft desided to drasticly lower thier prices,I'd say $25 bucks for windows 2000 would be a real deal,M$ wouldn't lose anything by it, maybe they could have a special promotion, give us your Linux floppies and burned in cd's and we'll give you a free copy of any particular windows distro you want.
Sure the commercial software world is dog eat dog tough, but it works.
If the Opensource method of development ever fails it will be because it's users don't contribute enough or support the coders of it's projects and ultimatly developers give up on Opensource because they have to eat!
Do yourself a big favor and see some of sir Alex's great works! Some of my favorites.
"The Man in the White Suit"
"Edwin"
"Monsignor Quixote" ( with Leo Mckern! based on the book by Graham Green )
and of course
"Tinker Tailor Soldger Spy" follwed by it's sequel
" Smilies People " ( both Tinker and Smilie's based on Books by John Le Carre, top notch cold war drama )
but my all time favorite has to be "The Horse's Mouth"
Sir Alex was a hell of a lot more than just Obi Wan Kenobi!
John C. prefers NT to Linux and he uses NT as his development system. He prefers OpenGL to Direct X, but he has stated in the past if MS improves DirectX and makes it better than openGL he'd use it. John would switch to Mac OS X in a minute if he thought it would be better. John plays with Linux he doen't rely on it, he can't. see the earlier X windows must die article and check out some openGL Linux vs Windows benchmarks to see why Linux and it's related software is lagging far, faaar behind other OS's in terms of preformance.
uh... The 9 year olds were right! Superman did fight Batman, It was called "The Dark Knight Returns". It's largely considered the Greatest work in the industry:) And yes it was REALLY, REALLY cool!
I love the original non-directors cut !!!! Harrison Ford's naration gives the movie a whole "Sam Spade film noir" kinda feel to it. In my opinion it kinda makes the movie seem darker.
One of my personal favorites,In my opinion the greatest anime ever!!! "Urusei Yatsura" In english roughly means "Those annoying Aliens" Lum, the alien ( Daughter to her homeworlds ruler)arrives on earth and meets the most lecherous teenager on Earth Ataru. I don't know if it's on dvd yet, but it's well worth it in any form! It' not too well known in North America, but in Japan it's considered one of the all time classic anime! From the creator of Ranma 1 1/2
wouldn't putting a handle on the top of your existing case do just as well? Just remove a suitcase or briefcase handle from an old case and bolt it to the top of your box. All you need is one of those dust covers to fit your box in case of rain and your good to go.
We Must Have Kurt on GIS Now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When hemos announced the release of the Hellmouth series in book form on/. it caused something of a heated debate about who really owns what they post and just how ethical it is to sell them in book form without asking anyone prior to publishing. check out the line at the bottom of this page "Comments are owned by the poster" /. does this to clear themselves of any possibility of a lawsuit ( and rightly so ). If the comments are owned by the poster, how can/. sell them? What's worse in my mind is that this book had been planned for sometime and yet no one at/. bothered to place a poll about how the original posters felt about this. When the book was announced on/. for the first time some of the original posters that contributed stories to the Hellmouth series were upset at this and denounced it. I ask people to boycot the upcomming book in my sig file because I thought part of what this community was about was against geeks being exploited for thier work and value. Thats what the book means to me, "Geeksploitation" after all wasn't it rob that coined that phrase in an earlier episode of Geeks in Space??? Despite the fact that profits from the book will go to a charity or some such orginization, it does not change the fact that this book had been planned for some time without concent or approval from the majority of the creators ( the posters aka "Geeks" of which I am one ), besides which many of the geeks here experiance the same teasing and ridicule that most geeks face and to bring up these stories in the first place was probably a pretty tough thing to do. Those stories are in thier uncut form on/. in the archives read them and read the posts conserning the upcoming book. I like what Katz did with the hellmouth series, it's probably his best work,Geeks were and still are treated like crap after the columbine massacre. But, we should never allow our most basic principals to be exploited or forgotten.
Neal may or may not be an actual geek, He may or may not have in your words "lived through those times" but the fact is he understands and appreciates "those times" enough to write a book about them. Generaly, it's the Gibsons and Stephonsons in life that envision the places that you will go tomorrow.
Thats really hard to say. Actually since no one in human history has ever actually talked to a cartoon and asked it's opinion about things like homosexuality, politics, religion ect... it's really hard to say just what cartoons are really for or in favor of:)
Yoda allways reminded me a little of the Dungeon Master. That was one cool show, another stand out I remember and wouldn't mind seeing again is Thundar the Barbarian. or how about Darkstar, or even The groovie Ghoulies, or How about those live shows like Jason of Star Command or even Space Academy? There's too many good shows just sitting in a vault somewhere just collecting dust.
If I remember right, Neil's "In The Beginning Was The Command Line" is available free download as well as for sale. Neil's a good example of opensource publishing done right. And more to the point the book is ENTIRELY his own content. I'd like to see more authors like him around. what really sucks is bothering to post the interview later as a realaudio file, what about streaming mp3???
Are publishers out there paying attention? "In the beginning was the command line" "The cathedral and the bazzar" and now "Voices from the hellmouth" are all books in paperback form that previously were/are availible online. Both "Command Line" and "Cathedral and Bazzar" are selling very well. nice to see OpenSource books make money.:)
Take what you want , but give credit for all you take!
No viruses, no hacks, no exploits totally rock solid! and armed with BONE BeOS may very well be your next server too.
Put rashboy on that would be cool, Taco Neil and Kurt. The show must go on.

What's the deal with these damn slides! They suck ! What's wrong with just posting the results as a simple text file or plain old HTML????
Arnold was the T-1000, Robert Patrick was the T-2000. It's the little details that count.

So far everyone that comments in favor of the book gets moderated up 2 or 3 points, everyone that is opposed gets 0 to 1 .
