Reading the Linux world article SCO claims that Linux advanced features such as failover SMP etc could only come about after many years of development. However I do find it a bit narrow sighted in that they think that IBM is the only one who could procduce this software and port it. There are other blue chips out there who have written failsafe software and ported it to Linux. Personally I think SCO is talking rubbish (well at least on this point at least). I really need to read all 40 pages of their document but don't really have the time. (heh who does:)
I was just thinking at what temprature does water freeze on mars? Surely if there is running water it raises hope that there might some microbes living in it, however I would think that it might depend on the temprature water. Anyone got any ideas? Or am I just talking rubbish?
What is the best way to protect against DDOS? Going from what I have seen there have been a number of ideas such as getting any inbound routers to check that they have a path for any incoming packets and Filter RF1918 address space. Also rate limiting helps but none seem to be a total cure. What else can be done?
You just need to know which groups to look at. For certain specialist things it can provide decent information and a reasonable community. Also the UDP does work as was shown with blueyonder.co.uk a year ago or so. They were threatened and quickly cleaned up their act when they saw the impact
On shorve Tuesday I did try my best to flip pancakes the traditional way I found that I can't flip. What I really needed was something like the JML all american pancake maker. Bascially a frying pan with a lid that you can turn over. Now that would be cool
I mean here in the UK it great to have no worries.
I mean we dont have the RIP bill that means you can be chucked in prison for 5 years if you wont tell police your passwords, and they don't even need a warrent
Or that on the average day you are caught on 100 different CCTV cameras
Or that its a police state but most people haven't noticed yet
Well sendmail has a hole. Now looking round I see what I expected in that everyone is saying upgrade to exim/postfix/qmail/whatever. Surely isn't it better to know one MTA well and be able to keep that secure.
Whats worse? Having to patch something you know well twice a year or having to learn an entire new MTA which might just have another hole found in it a month down the line?
I would like to see the day when on Linux I can power down a CPU and Memory on a board and then swap it whilst the machine is still running.
Also not stricitly Linux (but more the hardware) is the ability to do more from the BIOS. All modern propriatory hardware (SUN/SGI/HP) can at least install from the "bios" (nvram/prom) and usually a t lot more. Now that would be cool
I must admit I did try ext3 once and it crapped out over my disk. However it might of been a slighly dogey kernel at the time. I left it for a bit and am now running it on my laptop and haven't lost one bit of data.
Also the ability to mount it as ext2 (which every Linux recovery CD supports) makes life a lot easier
I found SPEWS.org to be a great spam fighting tool but what the T3 media group failed to notice that it is just an opinion. How can someone be wrong from sharing their opinion and then other people agree with it, in this case by using spews's blocklist. I'm glad this case has fallen the way it has as it sets a good precedent for any further actions spammers try to take
Off par slightly put if the universe is thought to expand for ever and that physics says the energy/mass are finite (i.e. I mean they can interchange but the total is always the same) that eventually the universe will end in being an infinitly big yet cold place?
Well I have found that a the earlier Geforce 2 work a treat (I am running a Diamond Viper V770) and have yet to expirience an X crash. One thing that I would warn you about however is that XFree 3.3.6 does have a better/wider support for graphics cards but on the flipside 4.0.1 (latest release of XFree86) does give better performance
Could I suggest that you look here for a list of graphics card XFree86 supports (to varying degrees). Personally if you want relability rather than performace I would say an ATI Mach 64 based card would be good. If you want speed though a geoforce 2 should see you right....
There are a number of things that hold up broadband access in the UK but the main one is Local Loop Unbundling (the last mile from the exchange to people) if owned by BT. Now OFTEL, the regulator is working to undo this but even though it should happen in the next 12 months BT are still dragging their feet by saying "there isn't enough room" in the exchanges. It isn't however all doom and gloom. There are cable companies like blueyonder and ntl trying to get cable out. Also there are a few wireless companines. But if you are like me and live in the sticks there isn't much help. For someone outside the UK you can get a good overview at broadbandhelp.com. Even though there are now quite a few ISP's offering DSL BT is still providing the bandwidth and of course it is their best intrests to take their time:(
I wondered what would happen to my 6.x cerfification when 7.0 is release and I just got this back from RedHat..
Your certification will remain current. When 7.0 is released we'll make an update addendum to your student kit available through Certification Central.

Am I the only one who is bored with 3rd Person Shooters and MMORPG's? Can any think of any new ideas? Something exciting and new?

Wonder how many pictures that is? I can get about 30
on my 7650 (shared with other apps admitally). Least with the P800 you can upgrade the memory

Looking at the Specs half way down there is apparently DRM (Digital Rights Management). Does this mean that I can't have WAV's as ringtones now? :P

I just find this ironic
:)
The BBC news article says:
"The new code also covers banner and pop-up advertising on the internet, though not a company's claims on its own website."
What do you get when you goto to ASA website? Why a popup of course

Also with IRIX 6.5.19 the NFS code has been totally re-written making it even faster and more stable
Force them to use DOS for a few years. That should be painful enough

Sorry that should be broadband-help.com
Well to be honest I am not that surprised.
