You know, at first I that it was kinda funny that SCO was doing this. Having read a lot of stuff about ATT and BSD. It seemed almost a right of passage for Linux into the real world.
Now I tempted to install Linux on a box in protest. Hold on a minute, what I'm I saying.
I have my doubts about Wal-Mart. This is the same company that sensors all music sold in it's stores and has removed magazines from the shelves because of questionable content.
In a large switched network spanning tree can save your butt and burn it. We try to test our switch changes before they are implemented. ON A TEST NETWORK.
I know it's hard for everyone to believe, but vendors lie and those whiz bang network tools can screw you over.
We have several thousand users on our campus with several thousand computers. We run about a half a dozen 6500 series Cisco Switches. Spanning tree re-calculations take about a second or 2. This is no big deal. And your traffic is re-routed nicely when something goes wrong. But if an interface (which is an uplink into the other switches) is freaking out and going up or down, the whole network will grind to a halt with spanning tree.
BSDi is no more. When Wind River bought them they took the embedded stuff that BSDi was working on and hired a few FreeBSD programmers. Since the economy in the US has turned to crap, they fired all of the FreeBSD programmers.
I have been a FreeBSD CD purchaser for a long time, since the Walnut Creek FreeBSD 2.1 days. At that time part of the money for the CD's went back into the project. Since the Wind River take over, they have stopped putting money back in.
The guys over at Deamonnews have started publishing a magazine and started doing the CD subscriptions. They have said that they will put money back into the project. So I dropped by Wind River subscription and decided to put my money with these guys. I'm also a subscriber to the magazine and have been very happy with it also.
I allocated 2 weeks worth of training per person. That is usually 2 - 1 week classes. Which ends up being about $6000 per person plus travel. The only deal I made with my guys is to try and take it some place close so the travel expenses don't kill me. But, if it's only held once a year or is something special (aka Upper Management is hot on it) I usually let them go. I also tell them to take it in either the spring or fall. There are too many vacation days that get taken over the summer and Christmas/New Years time.
Travel usually runs about $1200 for round trip and about $150 per night for lodging plus $40 per day food. Some times the numbers are lower, this is to pad for the times when they are a little higher.
The first 2 paragraphs of this story basically discredit it in my eyes. NT workstation looks cheaper if you are comparing it to SUN and HP UNIXs. The Free UNIX market is where the action is.
You know your right. But J-Lo did break up the engagement between Ben and Liv Tyler once they got back.
Boy I bet he's rethinking how that worked out.
Didn't Bruce Willis help that Russian guy refuel 2 space shuttles before blowing up that asteroid?
Complete meals will come in tiny capsules
Cars will fly on highways in the sky
And the world will be controlled by damned dirty apes!!!!
I should learn how to speel...
I thouht /. was broken. I hadn't seen a SCO posting in about a day.
FreeBSD rocks!
It's he the one that put Joel through all of those B grade movies on MST3k? So he does have a real job?

Long Live FreeBSD!!!!!!
I find your lack of humor distrubing.
Keep those headlines coming SCO. I'm on a roll.
Long live BSD!!!!!!!
Damn, just had to say it.
Long live BSD!!!!!!!

Hey maybe Wal-Mart could patent censorship?
pay check that cashes. Which is more than I can say for the company I was working for last christmas.
They at least give us 2 days off for Christmas, which is nice.

Test Network GOOD (if you have the money).

I would suggest looking on E-Bay for a DLT drive. You can pick some up pretty check. The only catch is that the media is pretty expensive.
Even with E-Bay the drive at most would hold around 80 Gig compressed. So, you would have to use 2 tapes.

I guess researching a story with more than one source is just something you have to remember for a test.
Geez!!!!
This is the kind of mindless crap we expect out of Mac users. Thanks for just re-confirming what I already thought of Mac users.
