  1. Re:Virtual Machines + sshfs + MacVim on Why Mac OS X Is Unsuitable For Web Development · · Score: 1

I agree that Mac OS X is bad for web development. That was my impression too, after I've bought my Mac Book. After a while, I realized that I can just use VirtualBox or VMWare to run a Debian dev environment. Running Debian has the advantage of replicating my production environment, so I know what modules and external binaries that I need to install later on. I also don't make the silly mistake of using incorrect capitalization on file names, since my file system is case-sensitive.

Textmate? Yeah, it's not suitable for programming. I solved this by mounting my dev VM using sshfs, and by editing my files through MacVim.

Jose Sixpack can easily connect to a remote server, regardless of who set it up. This means that this can be commercialized to provide remote services (i.e., teh cloud) to Joe Sixpack. Imagine being able to connect to a real Libre Office app instead of the severely limited Google Docs.

If you think about it, connection via RDP is already commercialized (i.e., Amazon EC2) but it still requires the user to set up a client. Being able to connect via browser removes this requirement.

I'm not stifling creativity. I'm just not sure what the point is.

The point is that VNC/RDP-like functionality is now accessible to everyone, which is a good thing. When was the last time Six Pack Joe had a properly configured VNC client?

I used to dream of world peace, but I realized that there can never be peace in this world. Only through the blood of soldiers and martyrs can world peace be achieved. We are living in an era of relative world peace because we have summoned the awesome might of nuclear weapons and unleashed it upon our enemies.

My idealism is no more. I no longer wish for a Utopian society that is free of hunger, of sadness, and of hardship. I have seen the true face of this world. Its face is not as beautiful as we were made to believe it to be. The world doesn't care us, for it is a cold and unforgiving place. Earth is insignificant; it is but a dust in the grand scheme of things. The universe won't care if all of civilization would be wiped out in an apocalypse. We are nothing.

So my wish for this world is for it to never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna run around and desert you; never gonna make you cry, never gonna say goodbye, never gonna tell a lie and hurt you.

Schools should not teach CMS to Computer Science students. Time is better spent teaching the fundamentals of programming and architecture design.
