The point of this is to give clueless windows users a free OS option... Many people don't like linux because it is hard to learn from a windows standpoint ('specially since nobody likes to ask for directions), not much software has a Linux version, it often requires users to do "scary" things like compile a program just to use it, and people just don't want to try something new. i love Linux to death, and i try to get as many people into it, but there are some big problems with getting people to use it. this will just be a windows side-grade that'll be easy for people to use, and it'll be free, so you're going to see it in lots of mom&pop computer store systems...
Think that was flamebait? You've obviously never met me in person...
Unless you have credible sources, I think you're making this up. I believe that our history books are making up a bunch of shit, but I also think that you're full of shit.
Think that was flamebait? You've obviously never met me in person...
The ISP's don't DEPEND on revenue, but businesses certainly don't like to cut out a chunk of their revenue like that... Think that was flamebait? You've obviously never met me in person...
Ok, you're wrong on all 3 counts. 1. Excellent documentation... Almost nobody reads documentation... Especially when the better your documentation, the larger the document, the less the user wants to pull that 20kg book off the shelf. 2. Loss of flexibility and power. That's why people use Linux, dummy! 3. Pretty face, comfortable user... Nastynastynasty!!! bad idea. Think psDooM. Would you log an inexperienced user in as root and let them play psDooM on your webserver? If a user is administrating stuff, they shouldn't feel "comfortable" in the beginning. Remember the first time you typed rm -Rf * as root? scary, huh? that's how it should be.
administering a system should not be easy. i'm not saying this because i don't want competition in the field, i'm saying this that if advanced administration becomes an easy, comfortable thing to do, users will fuck up their systems with the greatest of ease, and clog up tech support. Let the dummies be end users. End users generally stay in the little boxes that we make for them. If they go outside the box, they're probably smart enough to do so. But DON'T put dummies in the captain's chair!!!
Think that was flamebait? You've obviously never met me in person...
Hey, guess what? We don't give a damn about you. you can go fuck yourself with your real-playing ass. Think that was flamebait? You've obviously never met me in person...
Yeah, but if i did that, i'd have to buy a bunch of tux gear... or get a tattoo... or do SOMETHING to show off my inner linux geek... and tux gear and tattoos are expensive...
Think that was flamebait? You've obviously never met me in person...
In various programming classes I've taken, they've been typically around 50% female. If I ever don't get anything, I ask the nearest person who knows what they're talking about, regardless of sex, age, race, etc. Many of the guys in my classes find smart women intimidating, and won't approach them. The chicks in my classes tend to do better, because it isn't a competition to them, and they help eachother up... I do better than most people, because I've got the drive for competition (tho that competition is generally internal), and I'm willing to admit that I don't know something, or that I'm unable to do something. I'm also willing, even eager, to help other people, because teaching helps you learn more...
I won't say that you're doing this, but I see lots of smart chicks saying things like "I don't bake", and not learning how to cook, just to prove that they are different. Learning to cook isn't following a stereotype, its just a good idea. That's why I know how to cook. That's why I know how to work on cars. That's why I know how to sew by hand, and with a sewing machine. That's why I know how to lay foundation, frame, and finish a house. That's why I know how to program, and how to fix/build/upgrade computers. Many of the things that I know how to do are "stereotypical guy things" to do. Things that I don't do that aren't useful are play football, basketball, etc., etc... Though I do study martial arts, because that's useful. If you're wondering, no, just because I can cook, sew, etc., doesn't mean I'm gay.
Think that was flamebait? You've obviously never met me in person...
Supposedly, guys compete to prove who's dick is bigger. Girls, lacking dicks, are hard to compete against, because if you are better than them, it doesn't prove anything, because they don't have dicks, and if they are better than you, it is extremely shameful, because even they don't have a dick, it is bigger than yours. On the other hand, there are some of us that don't give a damn, and go at our own pace, and do whatever we want. I personally compete with everyone, not to prove anything, but to improve myself. My competition, in the end, is mostly with myself. Other people are just a point of reference. Others don't compete at all. I have a few good friends that, instead of competing, they have friends that are worlds ahead of them, and leach information off of them. They don't care about competing, they just want to learn. Also, the kind of guy that most geek chicks are "in the market for" are generally smart and sensitive. Which means that the guys either have girlfriends already, or are gay (and probably have boyfriends). If they are straight and single, they are probably excessively shy, and will never let onto the fact that they have pictures of you on their walls, know your mother's birthday, your dog's name (who died 12 years ago), etc., etc. Well, that's only if they stalk... and chicks -- if you find a guy that's stalking you, don't be afraid of him!!! I think that stalking (to a mild extent) is very sweet, and often times, the only way a guy can subtly show that he cares... Now, if he's sitting in your bushes at midnight, that's a bit much... Basically, there are guys out there that probably worship you, because you know more than them. My girlfriend is heavily into genetics, and I get her to teach me as much as she will (even tho I rarely understand any of it). Hmm... reading over that, i said all i meant to say, but i'm not sure if it's very clear... to sum it all up -- Guys are stupid jackasses. Become a lesbian. oops, i mean, Guys are stupid jackasses, you just have to learn to find the few that aren't, and be forward (but not slutty) towards them. Yeah. that's what i meant to say...
Think that was flamebait? You've obviously never met me in person...
sorry, but the dos kernel isn't portable to quantum computing, so m$ won't develop for it. Think that was flamebait? You've obviously never met me in person...
That arcticle says little or nothing to prove anything. If you had read the article, you'd see that modern wicca was drawn to the public interest by a couple of crackpots. Wicca wasn't INVENTED by said crackpots. Wicca, like voodoo, like psychology, is all psychological. It only works if you believe in it. For a time, I was a wiccan (no, not witches are women, and no, we're not warlocks, we're witches), and while I believed in it, I "casted" some pretty powerful "spells". Mosty on myself. Part of wicca is a form of karma, only tenfold. Does the age of a religion define its truth? If that's so, then the muslims are right, and we're all going to hell. My belief system is about 1 year old. Its not a religion. I personally think that religions are bullshit. Each and every one of them. You heard me. BULL SHIT. I came upon my beliefs by pondering life, and what "god" means to me, what makes sense. I follow what I believe, and I am very strong in my beliefs. They also change on a fairly regular basis, because with each new experience in life, our outlook changes. Are my beliefs the truth? I can't really answer that, but to say that they are to me, and that's all I care about. Its not fair to compare wicca to scientology, because scientology is made with the sole (and practically admitted) intention for stealing from the people. I have my views on christianity, too, and hinduism, but nothing is quite as bad as scientology... well, perhaps mormonism, but that's just because I'm moving to salt lake city in a couple months.
GNOME is hardly the crowning achievement of linux. sure, its real pretty, but its hardly the crowning achievement of linux. Apache is the crowning achievement of linux, by far. Apache has gotten SO many people interested in the open soruce community; so many people interested in linux. GNOME is something that existing linux users want. don't get me wrong; it's nice. if i didn't dislike GUI's, i'd like it a lot. from what i've seen, its very stable, very pretty, and user friendly. Apache has been the best recruiting tool for the OSS community to date, and, is, in my mind, one of the best pieces of software (OS's are not included in this comparison... apples-oranges and all...) i've seen. ever.
they don't give a rat's fanny? Um, sir, how exactly, without an economy, do you expect this country, in our current system to work? Last time I checked, this is a capitalistic republic... without money, governments of that sort go off the deep end... If our stock market crashes, this country has no money. no money, no government. That's not the DOJ's goal (unfortunately). god you are ignorant.
That'll be some bitchy latency! You'll have to wait for the computer to print each packet, wait for the train to come, send the packets out on the train, (there will probably be a charge for each packet), where a person at the main station types your packets into the computer, gets the response, prints the response, and sends it to (hopefully) you via the next train... you then type in the packet, and (drumroll please), you get a webpage!!! (if everybody typed right). Imagine playing quake on that!
There's one piece of software, Gossamer ThreadsLinks that has about the best support forum that i've seen online. Links isn't oss, and they use a UBB, but still, the support model is wonderful. Not only can the people at gossamer threads provide support, but the users support themselves.
if the program was a.exe, the user would manually have to execute it. same if it was a UNIX binary. Yes, users are very stupid, and they will do this, but not to nearly the extent that the.vbs scripts get executed, because lookout automatically executes them... Hey, that makes me wonder... if the user associated the.vbs extension with say, notepad, would it automatically run it, or just run it in notepad? that may be something to try...
