Try them out, see what you like best. Macports has been around the longest and is the most mature so it's a good place to start. I'm using Homebrew myself right now, it plays nice with stuff that's already installed in OSX instead of installing its own versions and installs in /usr/local by default, just where it like it. Though if you want a recent version of samba Macports is the way to go right now, there's no recipe in Homebrew yet AFAIK.

The developers were upset that they then got no money.
The developers decided to bitch and moan about it.

They thought it was a raw deal afterwards, came to their conclusion and quit the Amazon Store. Then they issued a nice article warning others and explaining their reasons. What's not to like ?

And where is the evidence that they didn't see increased sales from this? Where is the evidence that Amazon refuses to let developers publicly discuss the terms -- especially considering that this dev is publicly discussing the terms?

RTFA : "Did the exposure count for much in the days afterwards? That’s also a big no, the day after saw a blip in sales, followed by things going back to exactly where we started, selling a few apps a day." Also they added a graph of sales to the article as proof (see update 2 in TFA)

Where is the evidence that Amazon refuses to let developers publicly discuss the terms -- especially considering that this dev is publicly discussing the terms?

You want proof people are being told not to discuss the terms from the people who are being told not to discuss them but doubt the person who did come forward ?

Who makes the screens in the iPad? Who is begging who to please supply them with more screens?

Multiple sources according to CNET : "Industry online paper DigiTimes is also reporting that Chimei Innolux will also help in producing screen replacement units for iPads along with LG Display and Samsung Electronics."

I think Apple is scared, that it might not be getting the next generation of screens if Samsung has need for it themselves. If Samsung can make more money selling tablets then selling screens, Apple is screwed because Samsung is currently in the lead in the screen market especially oled.

Apple doesn't use OLED screens, Samsung so far hasn't proven itself in the tablet market unlike in the smartphone market and even there it can't touch Apple's volume. Doesn't seem so scary to me.

Also, this isn't just about tablets, iPhone sales are lower then Android sales and Samsung sells a lot of Android phones.

Apple is trying to get rid of the competition. Same as MS did with IE and we all know how that worked out for browser users. Apple without competition would be as boring in its line-up as MS.

I'll agree the gloves are definitely off and no punches are being pulled but it's no use blaming the player for the rules of the game. Patent reform is the only thing that will end this once and for all.

True, I hope Apple changes this in future.

Also, why doesn't Apple allow developers to use any development tools they want? There's no good technical reason for that. It's not so much the money that's the problem with Apple, it's the complete lack of choice.

There's no secret sauce, it's all just gcc in the end. See also iPhone Dev, which has been around since the original iPhone :

Sure they could go after those people, but that's what you might call a niche market. I don't see Samsung doing that though, it looks like they are trying to beat the iPad at its own game which is a losing proposition. That's probably why the article speculates if they could beat the iPad on price. Frankly I think if Samsung could do that they would've done so already.
