Dutch website Security.nl has published a preliminary map
of the geographical dispersion of the infected hosts that visited a dutch ISP network. They will update the map as more data is analysed.
security.nl received a screenshot
which shows a security problem in the SourceForge site, which was sent to the SF people months ago.
They never reacted to this. Apparently a malicious person found the vulnerability as well.
FreeBSD kernel not used for OSX
on
Cracking OSX
·
· Score: 3
"a warning about a flaw in the Free BSD software kernel that was used to develop the operating system...". The FreeBSD kernel was not used for OSX, only the userworld. OSX uses a Mach kernel.
I went to the Netscape download site, and in the unix directory I only found a binary for an OS which is not even unix (linux22). Any chance the FreeBSD binary will appear soon ?
Non-Dutch readers might be interested in the fact that the person Gerrie Mansur is not taken seriously in The Netherlands. He's a 'media hacker', despised both by hackers, crackers and security people.
We do accounting based on Cisco ip-accounting. With name-based virtual hosting we have to do this based on the webserver logs, giving a difference of about 20 to 40% less, as the IP overhead is not counted.

If you don't like ftp-installs or don't want to wait for the CD from Walnut Creek/BSDi, you can also download the ISO image at ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386/IS O-IMAGES/3.5-install.iso Buy the CD later to support the FreeBSD project.
Related to this: the OpenBSD 2.7 ISO's can be grabbed at ftp://ftp.zedz.net/pub/varia/OpenBSD-2.7.iso/

If everyone would wake up and implement their fscking egress filters, at least there would be some way to track down DDoS zombies much easier.
I like Hushmail a lot. It can be used with a browser of through a secure HushPop connection. Check out www.hushmail.com (or www.security.nl/hush)
