    It's not a troll.

How convenient. To get the data back off of my encrypted drive after the motherboard dies, I'll have to reinstall Vista, install all the OS updates, update the keys in the TPM, then read the disk.

Glad Microsoft is working so hard to make things simple.

Hint: TPM doesn't have to be implemented in such a boneheaded manner. Microsoft _chose_ to do it this way.

In my experience they're all screaming from the rooftops about how Zune is almost nearly as good as the iPod was two years ago, and that makes it better because Apple sucks.

an even better question would be: "With Microsoft bleeding billion into the Xbox, a billion into the Zune, and with Vista set up for failure, will MCSEs and IT managers finally start looking at other operating systems with anything but disdain?"

This new product will be called the "Zone". Microsoft's marketing message will be "Welcome to the Zone".

This "record and recall" feature should be added to the Zune within a year, but look for C|Net News.com to buck the trend and to annoint the "Zone" an "iPhone killer" for the next six months, followed by swooning reviews of the Zone, claiming it's "great for phone beginners".

Ok, you got modded funny, but why not put a regular USB port on the seat back, and allow people to hook up any USB mass storage device, and play the media from that. Make it a Linux MPlayer thing and it would be able to play just about anything.

Because that's not nearly as simple as displaying iPod content on the seatback monitor and allowing people to use the interface they already know?

Why do companies keep on locking themselves into one device when it would be much easier to support a large number of devices.

Because simple = good? Because a known quantity requires less support? That's the reason people have been arguing in support of Windows' stranglehold on business productivity for years now, so I figure it's just as valid here.

No, but I do have 10.4.8 running on a 1998-vintage PowerBook G3 Series machine with 256MB of RAM. We use it as a wired iTunes station for our studio and a web-browsing machine for in front of the TV.

Subjectively, it's not bad. I wouldn't try to accomplish any photo editing or other heavy-duty tasks, but for e-mail, web, and iTunes, it's snappy enough to be usable. With iTunes and Safari running, it's almost out of RAM, but runs without paging to death for about an hour of web surfing.

Based on this article, 1998 PC hardware is not going to provide the same level of service - if it'll even run Vista. Running Vista on a Virtual PC with 512MB of RAM is unusable, but I can't claim that as a valid comparison.

So, of the two big DRM providers out there, one has changed the compatibility game in mid-play, possibly forcing many people to forfiet their already-purchased content.

The other player is named Apple. And I think you're trolling - because if you can't figure out the woefully complicated rules around Apple's content authorization (up to five machines, unlimited content from any number of accounts on any machine, type the account name and password once to authorize that content on a new machine), then you really need to start reading some online help guides.

I don't see business using it for at least a year. Consumers may start buying it in June, when they've paid off their taxes and Christmas bills.
