  1. Why all the hate? on Google Signs $900m MySpace Deal · · Score: 3, Insightful

As I read these replies where the majority are negative on MySpace, it reminds me when AOL first had access to usenet, but not as bad. Back then, everyone was worried about the influx of nubes. And rightfuly so. But with MySpace, they have their own place, they are not making the haters go there, they are doing what the internet promised. I think it is a good thing. Kids today are treating the internet like a tool and not some secret society. If you all don't like it, do what we have been saying for other forms of media you don't care for, turn the damn channel!

  2. Re:Turn them All on on How Do You Handle Ethernet Port Management? · · Score: 1

I work for a rather large company where different types of traffic on the net are VLAN isolated. We have all the ports enabled. We also have a very mobile work force. People come and go all the time from site to site. We even have stations that are public offices where people from different sites can come in and use. They are always hot. We have had virus episodes, and we probably will again. But we also have very strict rules on laptops. We have very strict rules regarding software on all machines. We expect our users to be professional about their PCs. A per port security models would be cool, but if it took longer than a few hours to get these folks working, then that would be unacceptable cause sometimes these people only have a day or so to get something done.

I understand that this might not be a very common environment, but it is ours.

I have to admit, I don't see the need for these recent wizbang horseless carriages. Sure, they might be ingenious, but on a practical level, they don't do anything more than a fine team of horses. yada yada

But seriously, your attitude is one that would stop all progress. This new method does the job more efficiently.

From TFA, The lightweight nature of this solution -- requiring significantly smaller number of detectors when compared to SpamAssassin -- will doubtlessly prove attractive to those looking to implement a server-based solution where processing overhead may well be an issue. A server-based solution would be a one-size-fits-all mold since the filter is not personalized and does not learn for each particular user, but the reduced processing and storage time makes such a solution attractive.

That sounds like a good reason for this research.

No.. I call BS on that. Emapthy is not something learned via building servers, it is something learned by building relationships. If you actually care about other people, then you will have the ability to extrapolate that caring to others. Not everyones learns this, however.

If this weevlos character is on the level, then he is just like anyother bully. The only solution is either maturity, or a good old fashioned ass whooping.

    Of course, YMMV.

They've definitely been allowed to be kids, but they have also been given a lot of respect as humans. This is definitely something I hope to emulate when I become a father (in about 8 weeks... *gulp*).

My wife and I raised our son this same way. We noticed that he prefered to talk with adults rather then children at his age. And, not having the social skills that adults learn through years of social interaction, he would often either embaress adults by catching their mistakes, or faulty logic. We had teachers telling us that he would constantly correct them when they were wrong and his baseball coach used to call him the union rep!

Ah yes... Aside from all that, interacting with your child on a deep and REAL level is wonderful. All children should be raised as such. And I really feel that it will help with learning in that the child is presented with more complex conversations and thus forcing the brain to learn..

    Congrats...

As I went through it not only did it keep asking very similar question, but just reworded, it also was asked very personal questions as well. I felt like I was on the couch in a shrink's office. So I just started BSing the thing and it came back with a result that was almost the opposite of what I think I am. Either way, I would feel awkward enough to answer those questions in person to a shrink, there was no way I was going to do it to a computer. Next thing you know, the whole internet is busting your balls over the stupid crap you had to answer for some personality test...

    sheesssh....

That said, if you really want the job, I would tell them that you would rather do the test in person. There is no way I would do it to a machine.
