I don't buy that the stated purpose for the system (independence from the US's military) is very credible, given that the US is, you know, part of NATO and whatnot. And if the EU does turn hostile to the US in some sort of bizarro-world, the US possesses capabilities to shoot them down.
Good God, you're so arrogant you could almost be French. Ah non, wait! Unlike ze British, we have actually kept a nuclear strike capability. 12 heads pointed straight at you, you just don't know where they'll be coming from. No-one would come out a winner from this, but please, give it a go:-)
(I want to smack whoever decided that the Cygwin filesystem should be a distorted, rearranged copy of the true underlying filesystem...)
You mean having a / folder that looks segregated from the rest and then the/cygdrive mount point? I've always wondered about that too (but not to the violent point where you're at;-)
Oh right, this is slashdot. We're here to bash Microsoft.
I'm sorry, but bash and Microsoft are 2 very different things, with very different licences. There was a time on slashdot when people didn't try to compare apples and bananas...
I don't think so. Piracy *is* stealing, Yes, that is the quote from the MPAA, but it is legally true in most countries.
You don't own the rights to a product, and you haven't bought the right to own the product itself, therefore owning it equals theft.
In most legal systems, possessing copyrighted material that you didn't buy is less punished than distributing it, (and so it should be, IMHO) but it is still illegal.
I you watched the F video, you'd see that she's actually advocating net neutrality and warning against the ramifications of such a system.
This is a very large debate, but ISPs cutting/censoring/throttling your access is actually a massive deal, and goes against a lot of principles in modern coutries' Constitution.
Maybe one of these companies can start selling MeeGo phones for those of us who want pocket computers.
May you be speaking the truth.
Mind you, if they're pouring out of the Nokia engineering team, they participated to Symbian, which leaves me full of doubts as to their actual skill...
Race card? I was always under the impression that being Jewish was a religion, not a "race".
Then you were mistaken. It's both.
There are Jews from so many different ethnicities that it's an absolute nonsense to talk about a Jewish race. In the same way that Muslims, Catholics or Buddhists aren't a race.
Sounds like a Ryanair strategy: leak a false (or illegal) idea to the press and never deny it. The whole "you'll have to pay 1 pound to go to the toilet in our planes" is not allowed by aviation laws around the world. But who cares, it was free advertising for Paddy O'Leary's airline...

The story is not important to him. All he wanted was to see if his website would hold the load of being /.'ed
I was about to say the same. K&R, first and ANSI edition.
No point being so -pedantic about ANSI ;-)
Everybody on /. knows Anonymous Cowards.
He put one in Mecca, but he got tired of it and dropped it after a while...
FTFY. I think that's what the article meant...
Cmdr Taco, you are going to be missed around here. You have had quite an impact on this whole virtual community building thing.
Is it just me or you said that Slashdot was like Facebook, but just ahead of it's time? ;-)
GM has decided to quit producing the Corvette. It's just not the way to the future anymore.
Of course not, everyone knows that the Delorean is !
I'd settle for a place where the gov't obeys the law and the people can change the law. You know of a place like that, do let me know.
I don't live there, but that's the image that Sweden gives me...
yep, I never figured out how to remove snake from my old Nokia 3210...
you don't want to know...
To my limited knowledge, the first Windows XP's fingerprinted close to OpenBSD, but yes, it's probably close to the truth.
And the BSD licence means they can do it without releasing their modifications. That's real *Free* software. Eat that GPL!
If you have to remember all the names of the pigs and cows that are lost and found on Farmville...
Yep, for Internet censorship, it sounds like kiddy porn should be the new Godwin point :-)
I first read Ponzi and chuckled, and now I read it again and it took me 3 minutes to stop laughing :-D
That only works when the interest on your current debt are lower than 25 pounds...
Sighful? Is that when you've had enough of the usual trolls (google, apple, emacs...) and just go *sigh* in front of your screen?

oh, and of course: In Soviet Russia, music format shifts you!
