How else are they going to get paid? They did work, Real expect them to donate their work for free. I don't see it as unreasonable to ask for payment, whether Real think the price is too high is a matter for them (and their customers?)
OK when models get further away in games, they get less detailed, both in terms of textures and polygons. Now if you have a light, with a simplified character, casting a shadow onto a wall quite a long way away, this simplification might become very much more obvious.
Isn't this technology very wasteful, a huge proportion of the power must just escape into the air. I would not be too surprised if it ends up getting banned.
I never did C/C++ properly, we did Pascal (yeh laugh), but we were specifically taught about passing by reference or value. Pointers per-se are not a good thing, but references (which is what Java has) are, as they still have type and heap protection. Yeh you can't do OS level coding in it, but my first name isn't Linus either.
Actually nowadays I do PHP, and I actually often use Java to describe my approach to coding (which does tend to highlight me as a better-than-average PHP'er). In todays world I think it's propably more important to get set theory, SQL,some patterns and have a great approach.
And Gil did not seem to be anti-ogg at all, he merely stated that his employer is very pro-MPEG and as such actively tries to remove chances for non-MPEG codecs.
If you want to be proud of your code, you need to say no, and to look realistically at what your being told to do. Then you need to think of a way to achieve the aim without cludging it, basically your contuaally refactoring, rather than just adding functionality
Wants to know why I should pay attention to this? I switched fully to GNOME in nineteen ninety something because of all the UI crack. I'm wondering whether I should look again at KDE now?
I do think intelligence is fixed, what you can do with it is not. All people are intelligent (yes some more so) but all brains are of similar size/structure. Some people have a desire to learn and achieve, some people don't for a variety of reasons (lack of confidence due to previous failures or maybe just plain lazy). The former I'll surround myself with, the latter I don't want anything to do with.

I agree with what your saying, the cat mustache example is stupid, I've had experiences with similar other games, but Dues Ex? There's hardly ever only one way to do a puzzle in that game, and you don't even need to do them all. I guess it's possible the open nature of the game found you with none of the items you needed to do something, but I can't think of anywhere where that's possible atm
Enforcement is expensive, the amount of legislation this government has past is amazing, any problem they legislate, not look at the actual problem. Yes this is (partially) true of all governments, but it's particularly true with this one.
Everything you put in seems open to the world, this is fine if its "what i did today" it's expected really. But when you register with your email, you _do_not_ expect that to be published, which it is(!) even if it is represented as an image. I find this quite frankly amazing.
It's a terrible mini game, I like the splinter cell one where u pick a door lock, it makes sense. I have no idea why I have to play pipemania to get 10% off prices, and it's _incredibly_ tiresome after the 60th time.
If it rings, I'll pick it up whereever and either say call back later or walk outside, but it _must_ ring. If I found out it was being jammed, I'd pay £1 of the bill to avoid prosecution for non payment and not go back.

doesn't mean it's not their property, and therefore not yours to give away / open source.

About the Timex Sinclair 2060...
Just to rub it all in, the unit had no Backspace key,

Ever looked at a Mac keyboard?

Well science fiction, unless impossible (most things can be explained in SF, to a degree), is "not science fiction" if you see what I mean.
Teleportation and Warp drives are "not science fiction" either.

Apple will probably get their patent, then they'll release the product, then they might sue Lebdev.
I'm not moving from DVD.

In my case, it can travel about 50cm before it becomes patchy and untypable. So I'm not particularly concerned about this :-)
Troll? Huh, what gives, it's plain sensible.
If it stops you having to pay Child Support for the next 18 years, that's gotta be worth it!

If your in a game and get killed, then someone takes all your money, obviously it's a crime in SL, but is it a crime in the real world too?

Oh and the storyline was amazing IMHO.
I use audiojelly semi-often, it's not cheap though, and im not sure it's even non RIAA (doubt it though). Everything is non DRM'd

Google are just supporting Moz, because they don't want the web controlled by MS.

most windows users don't know what the .net api's are, and don't care either. so is .net irrelevant ms?
