Having lived in Venezuela during Chavez's regime, including the attempted coup on 4/11/2002, I can promise you that Chavez isn't doing much of anything for anyone but himself.
Well you don't see people talking about having sex "kitty style" now do you? So some of the hits on dog may be due to that and not just people who like to feed their dog peanut butter...
Just wait 6 months and you can buy the digitally remastered Blu-Ray version. Another 6 months after that and you can buy the digitally remastered Blu-Ray version with NEW previously never seen before, add no value to the movie, scenes!
Now I could have been mistaken but I thought this was to jam signals that threatened military personnel, and I made the assumption that they were referring to IEDs. I know that they do not depend on jamming signals for IR or RF missiles.
AFAIK they only use COTS components to create these IEDs, though I suppose they could use more sophisticated military grade comm systems. Heck even police departments are getting into more sophisticated realms w/ regard to radio comm.
But based on my knowledge of government contracts, most of the cost will be to cover documentation and project management overhead costs.
Seems like a lot of money to me. A friend of mine once created an 802.11a jammer out of a cordless phone and it only took him a day or two. The first go around his reprogrammed phone would block a specific channel. With the second iteration it would find what channel you were on and block it out so that you couldn't do frequency hopping. It would even take out a broad spectrum cordless that was using multiple channels at once. Granted they want something that blocks more than just one frequency range, but it doesn't sound very much different than what my friend did.
The biggest problem I've had of late searching on Google is trying to find reviews of hardware and getting ninety billion pages trying to sell it to me with 'Be the first person to review this product!" I need to find a different keyword on that.
$10 says that these sites are mostly scrapers trying to get page hits. For instance, I noticed the article that DRAM prices are at their lowest yet. I currently have 8GB in my machine and wanted to figure out what the max was (my manual is at home). So I went and looked up my motherboard model number from the website that sold it to me. I then proceeded to google: "XFX MBN790IUL9 LGA 775" and probably 80% of the sites that came up were scraped. The manufacturer's website wasn't even in the first two pages (though they probably took the main page down for this old and obsolete board).
Probably because you have people like me. I'd be willing to bet you $1000 that I *probably* own shares of Apple, indirectly at least. You see all of my retirement funds are in an investment account and some of that money is used to purchase mutual funds. I'm sure you understand how mutual funds work so I will save you the lecture. How do you hold the mutual fund responsible for the actions of Apple? I don't get to pick what stocks the fund manager purchases, but I do have the choice in funds, and the fund's prospectus would likely tell me if they owned Apple stock. So who exactly would be liable for the corporations actions? The fund manager? The owners of the fund? Both? The whole purpose of these mutual funds is to "fire and forget" so to speak. They could make hundreds or thousands of transactions per day that I would have zero knowledge of.
Also, suppose you and I formed a partnership where, in the partnership contract it specifically stated that I was merely providing capital and that I had zero control or influence over the partnership. It is likely that if the partnership engages in criminal activity that the silent partner would not be held criminally liable, unless the silent partner should have reasonably known that there was criminal activity going on. For instance if the name of the partnership were "Underage Sex Slaves, LLP."
Are you on crack? Have you ever used an android? There are no more ads on an android phone than there are on an iPhone. Period. There might be free apps that embed ads, but that is no different than the iPhone. Google makes its money by selling ad services, yes. I think Google's interest in the phone market is all of the mobile information that they are able to garner from phone users. They sell that information. But, Google maps and search are the default on the iPhone. They garner that same information from your iPhone. In fact, the Android phone lets you opt out of all data mining that is not directly related to using the web browser. The iPhone does not let you opt out of any data mining at all.
Try driving in Florida. It's not just SUVs that are too big for a lot of drivers. There are grandmas driving boats that are so big they can't make a right turn into the right most lane. Seriously. I'm all for raising the driving test standards. If you can't parallel park it, or turn into the closest lane, its too big for your skills and you shouldn't be driving it.
My point is that I am running a "cloud server" that DOES do everything that i want, and doesn't do it through Google. I'm just trying to tell people there are alternatives to using a cloud owned by some corporation.
I for one never ever ever want to go back to managing and maintaining contacts on a damn cell phone again. Much rather be able to add them "to the cloud" and edit/change them from my PC/phone/whatever from "the cloud" - and replace my phone with another Android based phone (hey, my G1 is definitely up for retirement) and need do nothing but log in. Same goes for a variety of other Google Services.
I like the cloud for contacts and calendar, too. But, I dont' want to give Google any more info on me than they already have.... so I am running a Zimbra server that lets me push stuff to my phone. Giving Google full control over all my info, documents, and apps, does not sound like a good time to me.
People are rapidly become educated about the absurdity, invasiveness, high cost, lack of security, lack of privacy, and radiation of this procedure.
Want to talk about the absurdity of it all? I just went on a business trip earlier this week. The airport had a body scanner for every other line in security. So every other line HAD to do the enhanced patdown or scan and the rest of the lines went on business as usual. The stupidest part of the whole thing is that you get to PICK which line you go into. Why anyone picked the body scanner line is beyond me. A terrorist certainly wouldn't.
the Fourth Amendment might keep you secure from search and seizure in your home (because that public-safety rationale doesn't apply there)
Sorry but not true if you live in an apartment complex. You DO have to submit to a body scan because you could endanger one of the other tenants. At least I can see them arguing that.
Atoms aren't totally useless. I actually have a dual core atom that I am using as a server, with a VM running. I also remote desktop into the machine and use it on a daily basis at work. Since I'm pretty much the only user of the machine, it works perfectly and consumes under 30W. I used to leave my desktop on 24 hours a day and it was sucking up 300W all day long. That's a huge power savings for me at $0.12a kWh.
If you're wondering why I keep this thing running all the time its because I run an SVN, VPN, and Zimbra mail server on there. I like being able to VPN into my home network from anywhere. I use an x86 architecture instead of PPC because that's what the software I need to use supports. Otherwise I'm sure I could get my power consumption down below 10W.
I will also admit that I cheat and run this all on an SSD, which definitely helps with some performance.
Well what is the point in engaging in an arms race that costs us trillions of dollars and the terrorists $6.00 for a pack of condoms? Because you know that is where it's going next. The condom bomb and their new imaging technology can't detect that.
Go to South America. Poor people use them in places like Venezuela and Argentina to steal power for their shanty towns. It's quite common and not a new idea at all. Just don't get caught!
All the excuses you all are making for MS fail to make up for the basic math here and the reasons for why this happened are irrelevant.
I wasn't making excuses for Microsoft. I couldn't care less about WinMo7. The point I was making is valid: They can't outsell any phone if people can't buy their phone in the first place. The same would be true if people could not find an Android or iPhone in stock.
And for the record I've had the iPhone and am now a proud and happy Android user.
I think it's not fair to make the comparison just because AT&T didn't bother to supply their stores with anything. I have a friend who took the day off work to wait in line and buy one. He had called the store and asked them if he needed to get in early and they told them they had plenty of phones in stock and that he could come in any time and buy one. He got there an hour before the store opened and found out that the AT&T corporate store had 2 phones in stock. That's right. 2. Now maybe that's all the demand they thought they'd get but that store was sold out the second the store opened.
I don't think AT&T has any interest in offering serious competition to the iPhone. That's why all their android phones are pretty crappy compared to T-Mobile, Sprint or Verizon.
I didn't watch a video here but I've watched space shuttle launches on multiple occasions from about 100 miles away. From that distance the shuttle looks pretty slow too.
Liken it to me trademarking the phrase: "Grocery Store" or "Supermarket".

Even more nerds than Nestle/Willy Wonka?
You're asking for trouble. When those caps finally do give up the ghost they could potentially fry anything attached to the power supply!

I think this would hurt China just as much as it would hurt the US or Europe.

That's funny... because you were way too thick to get his joke! :P
