    It was my belif that you could only patent INVENTIONS, no jsut thing you find. Imagine if newton patented the use of his laws, and we all had to pay royalties for moving. Bit extremee but patneting GENES, they didn't MAKE THEM, they jsut found them, its insane. They shoudl be able to atent particualr modified plants they make, but the wholesale patneting of individual genes that might be useful is jsut plain wrong, its as bad as domain name squatting if notworse, because you can still have a company wihtout the domain....

    Think thats bad???? While petrol is pretty damn cheap here (i'm tooyoung to drive so i don't give a flying fuck) CD-Rs are MUCH mroe expensive here, around a DOLLAR, and with our dollar so dman lwo they are going up and up, be happy iwth what you've got and the fact currany markets can't fuck your currancy so much you nca't afford to travel.

    While Freenet does have its limitations (P2P scaling is hard and as for speed....) i'm glad to see it getting more and more uses, what it needs is an easy to use front end for windows (larger userbase) and u have the base the the fabled 'second internet' somthign that is impossible to control, censor, track etc, make Metallica and Sony shit their pants with any luck.

    To see the EU block all data too-from the US coz its passed yet another law undermining people. It ousnds good and it'd owrk against lets say..sudan whcih has 1 ISp and about 200 users, but hte biggest abusers, corperatins reside in the good 'ol US of A and i cna't se ethe EU ever blocking that off. Pity really, world would be a better palce if all the good stuff moved to EU hosting and the US wa left to rot. COz its rotten itself.

    A friend has soldered a S-Video outonto his GForce2GTS 64Mb version and used the firmware off my Leadtek card,(same type) and it worked perfectly but i can't remember which brand his card was. I have seen outside boxs you can plug inbertween cards and moniters that offer other video-ou modes too.

    After working with ALOT of diferent AI systems they keypoint does come down, all you need t odo is find a bug, a blind stop in the AI systems, and even if they are the learning/neural net type your gonna get to blow alot of these out of the sky b4 its fixed, hope it dosen't run windows or you'll have to restart to fix a bug ;)

    i just can't help taking the bait here first of all, redhat makes money on selling SERVICE surrounding the OS like support. Security through obscurity DOES NOT WORK ANY BETTER OR WORSE THAN OPEN SOURCE. Because the Source is open makes it easer not harded to tell if there is malicious code fool. And you can find/patch/get others to make patches for security holes much faster, lok at microsofts record ffs. Corel can repackage and sell redhat but they won't get anywhere coz they have to give the next person the same oppotunities anyway. 'Nuff said

    excuse me but....aren't most of those atricles completely valid and real? At least 2 of those *know* are completely real and true (the "Push-button pleasure " and "Cracking up ") you can't dismiss an idea as compelte BS becuase you don't happen to liek it or are chroicly cynical. New technology alwaays sounds crazy (sending signals through space dust or cloning?) but often have very real sciecne behind them, read before you dismiss mate

    People will only take so much, thre is already alot of dislike about the DVD zoning system, but hte idea that every time you move state/country you need to buy a new/upgrade every electronic device in your house is crazy. For htose who travel it is insane, kinda defeats the purpose of a laptop if it only owrks iwhtin 5ks of your house dosne't it. Another point raised is that GPS dosne't work that well indoors causing all sorts of problems, as well as if someone tkaes out the GPS system, or a solar flare.....you don't get to wathc the superbowl, not a popular idea i'm sure.

    Ahme, excuse me but i just *have* to add my $0.02 here. First of all, Netscape might suck but wouldn't it be more in line with slashdot values (ie: open source) to direct people towards mozilla/seamonkey? which to my understanding is fully web compliant?? And secondly while IE my be web complaint its not what i'd call stable, i switched to Mozilla *because* IE crashed every 5 minutes. Last but not least, IE is windows only, and since there are one hell of alot of Linux, BSD etc users here, which IE isin't made for, it makes ore sense to link to the mozilla project, which is compiled into a wide range of OS's (it looks better too! =) PLease, keep your heads screwed on the right way people. -=JaGuaR=-

    yes but apple oculd never be the next microsoft, because Mac OS runs on mac hardware, and mac hardware alone, which apple alone controls, the masses would want more choice than that, which apple tried, and killed the project back earlier in the ninties, coz it couldn't compete with the apple clone makers

Coming from australia i know 1 PERSON who uses IM,we all use ICQ, u can get open source, linux, its fast, and simple andwhile it was recently bought by AOL its not in any way linked to IM, pardon me but i don't think they have market control and it isin't the governments role to regulate this, everyone is free to make theeir own messanger and plenty of alternatives exist with plenty of users 75,000,000 for ICQ.

    There is a very good package called 601, it'll give you all the ins and outs and very good non-liner edit software, very powerful, jsut stick it on a NT machine with a gig or so of RAM, 20Gb Hd and bingo, great self contained package
