Docker will be part of the solution. But more is needed, because Docker will keep being small. Not to many features, just do what it needs to do.
Do you want autoscaling for example, Docker alone isn't enough. You'll need some kind of orchestration.
OpenStack does have a project called Heat which does this.
I wonder how long it will take until Docker can be run in proper multi-tenant environment by mere mortals.
Dan Walsh from RedHat added SELinux to Docker, that could be a a way.
OpenStack is still not as easy to install as it should be, OpenStack needs a built-in installer. TripleO is what a number of companies, like HP, RedHat and now Rackspace are helping to build into and on top of OpenStack components right now. TripleO isn't just an installer, it handles automated upgrades too.
Funny fact is: TripleO uses images, Docker does too.
It isn't just Linux containers, but is is also a deployment method.
RedHat added SELinux support.
Pretty certain they'll make it nice and secure.
Solution:
Move as much as you can to webbased solutions, probably running on Intranet servers.
That can be managed on the server.
Every platform has a browser and they are more and more capable each release.
There are 2 problems, that both companies are putting a lot of effort in:
Intel trying to scale down
ARM trying to scale up
The reason is, that Xen is a Linux Foundation project and Amazon AWS uses Xen:

Keyboards and larger screens can be attached to smartphones and tablets.
I wouldn't be surprised for BYOD future where on the desk there is a keyboard, mouse and monitor and (wireless ?) power for you to dock with.
The thing that might prevent this might be a universal connector.
Al though some HDMI standards do exist and we are seeing more wireless power pads now, so who knows, maybe Bluetooth will handle some of that too.
Well, it never was a great open source project. Because the license of TrueCrypt is restrictive in several ways.
TC is NOT a FOSS project, never was.
For Mars and so on, you'll need something else:

Something like TCP just won't cut it.
Exactly, more bandwidth could be less important than latency:

If someone runs that kind of software on the same computer driving the car, they are nuts.
Scrap that, if you read the advisory they mention turn off ActiveX.
So basically, it's an ActiveX exploit, so turn that off.
The right answer is:
Stop using IE on Windows XP, use Firefox or Chrome, they get updates.
Or better yet: stop using Windows XP.
I should probably mention, the Heat Orchestrator can run without the rest of OpenStack.

I wonder if you've heard the news and read the page you linked to, it says:
"On 10 February 2014, Red Flag Software terminated all employment contracts and closed down. "
So I doubt it.
I've seen articles claim there are more devices connected to cellular than people.
So that would mean it's less than half.
There are lots of villages on the other side of the border too you hardly ever hear anything about.
Chernobyl ? Interresting choice of vacation destination.
"She is a career lobbyist" ...
" Why she was ever the FCC commissioner is beyond my comprehension."
Seems pretty clear to me, the answer is right there. :-)
Let's have an other look at what happend:
Almost every vendor which included OpenSSL in their product jumped on this the first day.
Of the vendors Apple and VMWare were the slowest to respond to the Heartbleed bug, what does that tell you ?
Neah, it was the: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...
The TP-Link I got was less than 50 euros.
Do you know what FIPS certification does ?
They check the algoritms (read: math), not the implementation.
So nothing has really changed from that standpoint.
Will LibreSSL be FIPS certified ? Probably not.
Yeah, sorry.
English isn't my first language.
