knowing whats in your fridge without having to scan a bar code.
Are you trying to say that you use a bar code scanner to tell you what is in your fridge? NOW THAT IS A NERD!

Looks kinda cool, but it only runs on irix, and not very many people on slashdot can afford a sgi to run it on. To bad they don't provide the source.
Not really you can pick up a generic 2xagp w/banshee chipset( can anyone say first gen.v3 ) for $30-$35 in any mailorder mag, cdw, pc-connection, etc, etc, etc.
It also depends on the motherboard you have. I have a supermicro dual slot 1, and it has a setting in the bios to run with no video card, it also has options for no keyboard and/or mouse.
SO THERE.
If you had permission to view the prints then yes it's ok but if not then you probably stole them, or have snuk into a place where you shouldn't be. Although I do agree with you in just because you have seen it doesn't make you a theif. I have seen engineering shops where they take on interns and such, and have wonderd if those people where using some of the designs aquired from one shop to another, but then agin I just work for the IT dept. so I really don't care.

You are right it probably going to be hard to find that sort of archive, but even if micro$oft did buy deja I dout they would go to the extreme that you mention.
Very true! If Compaq wasn't able to reverse engineer the IBM BIOS we would all be screwed as far as PC's go. But on the bright side there would be no Micro$oft;-)
Vert true, I have a Toshiba 2675dvd w/450PIII and even with the fan running it gets quite warm. I have noticed that it runs cooler running linux vs. win9x. Although if I adjust the power settings properly I can get 3 hours on battery, if I watch a dvd on battery it drops to about 2 hours. I would realy like to get a laptop the is close to the same performence, but that runs a LOT cooler and longer battery life.
I have the same device with a static ip and a linux, windows LAN. It even has a built in dhcp server, yes I can setup dhcpd in linux but this is very easy. Also a friend of mine has the same setup on PacBell dsl w/pppoe and it work like a dream, no need to get pppoe going in linux just let the linksys do it.
Wrong! Our DHCP server here at work is on redhat-6.0 w/dhcp-2.0b1pl6, and almost all of the clients our running win98se and there are noproblem w/Offers or Ack's. Although sometimes it dosn't want to accept the dhcpd ip, it always will after the second offer. I have wached the dhcp run in debug mode in the foreground. You do make some good points though, although in the real world thats not entirly true.
