I wanted to thank you, enrico_suave, and Steve525 for your replies. I spent the rest of the day checking out SageTV. You both answered a lot of the questions that I had.

As one poster noted the only problem is that SageTV is Windows based. While I'd like to run a Linux PVR ala MythTV, my knowledge of Linux is severly lacking. Not to mention the Wife factor, if she can't easily run the get the PVR/TV up and running it is a no go.

Citing a rise in spam abuse, Microsoft Corp.'s MSN division has ended free access to its Hotmail Web-based e-mail service through the Outlook and Outlook Express clients.

That's funny I still have access to Hotmail through Outlook at home and at work. I certainly don't plan to pay for access to Hotmail even though I've had an address with them since I first used the internet in college. All I want is a reliable email service that I can access anywhere through Outlook if need be. I can't stand accessing Hotmail through the MSN portal it is way bloated. I guess this is a good time to start utilize my GMAIL account.

  14. Re:I use nextel all day on Verizon PTT (Push To Talk) vs Nextel's Direct Connect? · · Score: 1
As a Nextel administrator for a Construction company and Nextel user myself I can relate to some of your points.

1.Batteries are shyte. Even when brand new and fully charged you're lucky to get a full day of usage.

    2. The accidental calls is something that is more common with the older model phones (ie. I1000 or earlier). All of the newwer model phones use a different menu system similar to that of other Motorola celluar only phones.

    3. The tower spacing for Nextel is crap. In my area (MA, RI, CT) it is as if Nextel spaced out the towers at the maximum coverage areas . Thus not allowing any overlap, but also greating dead spots when travelling into the Nextel tower coverage area. IMHO

    4. The holsters are indeed crap and prone to breakage. One of Nextel's biggest clients has always been the Construction industry. However the equipment they put, yes I realize the phones are motorolas, are not very rugged. Even the phones designed with the military spec get destroyed by our guys in the field.

    Just my $.02

I wouuld like to see some interopability between the PTT on the Verizon phones and the Nextels. Overall Verizon getting into this market will hopefully bring more competitive pricing to the PTT market in general.

  19. Me too on Digital Cameras for Use in Tough Conditions? · · Score: 3, Informative

I am also a sysadmin for a construction company. We had the same problem where we were blowing threw tons of $$$ on disposable cameras and developing. The Project Managers and I were finally able to convince our frugal and technophobic VP into letting us buy digital cameras.

We decided on the Fuji FinePix 2600. It's a nice little camera that is easy to use. I'm not sure how waterproof they are though. In my experience when you start talking about "ruggedized" or "waterproof" it means a huge price jump.

As far as the legal issue goes we take it on a case by case basis. Meaning that some of our contracts specifically state that digital photography is not to be used. I have to say that lately we have not had many contracts that forbid the use of digital cameras.
