  1. Good work guys on Preview Helix Code's "Evolution" · · Score: 1

First, I want to say that I think Evolution is truly that, evolution. Sure the UI is almost exactly like Outlook. But that's fine, if users are accustomed to it, and obviously like it (How many did ILOVEYOU hit?) why shouldn't it be used. I'm not saying the Outlook UI should be the standard e-mail client UI, if it aint broke don't fix it.

As far as Bonobo goes, component architecture totally kicks ass. Most Mac users will probably remember OpenDoc. While Apple was developing this with IBM and `actually had many companies, including Adobe, going on it, OpenDoc didn't exactly hit mainstream :) There's a little bit of information on it here. And some Apple stuff PR stuff here.

Evolution is going to make a sweet E-mail client, and I hope Bonobo can make development easier, and software better for everyone.

You flaming fucking idiot. "lost NEGATIVE $1,400,000,000" that means they made money.

    Are you really that stupid?

  5. Naked Jackie Chan on Lightning Crashes, An Old Freedom Dies (Updated) · · Score: 1

I'm sorry for the totally off topic post (or is it). But does anyone else find it amusing that Naked Jackie Chan is totally appropriate here. I mean, Surfwatch can't block Slashdot because some AC wants to post some lame ASCII art. Or can they?

I ph33r switching to -1 and seeing how many there are posted already

  6. Not a desktop but... on Review of the Sony Vaio PCG-X9 · · Score: 1

I absolutely love my VAIO N505VE. It's the cheaper model that's out with the Celeron 333. But, it's super-light like the Z505 and others, and it really has all the features you'd want in a mobile.

    -10.4" TFT
    -64M RAM stock
    -6G HDD
    -Celeron 333
    -1 PCMCIA
-1xUSB and Firewire on the laptop

About the only bad thing I can think of is the Winmodem. But it's a Rockwell so we might get support.

    And the kicer, it's $1500.

I should mention that I'm posting this on the VAIO, running Linux, in bed, with my head seg faulted and core dumped.

  9. Y2k Lights Out on End of the World · · Score: 1

I was at a party Friday night with a lot of people. Right at 12:00 someone threw the light switch and the room went instantly silent. Everyone was scared p00pless. He waited a few seconds, turned it on, and those god-awful New Years horn and whistles noises started.

    Sure was funny :)

  10. Explanation on Linux Last in Deja Network OS Poll · · Score: 1

  11. Opressed/Imprisoned on Top Ten Geeks of the Millennium? · · Score: 1

I think it was pretty amazing what Gallileo went through to get his point across. Then again the church had always murdered and desecrated scientists and heretics. I'd have to say he ranks pretty high on my list.

  12. A Bad Thing on UCITA is passed · · Score: 1

Does anyone else see this as as much of a Bad Thing as I do. Granted, I copy plenty of software and it probably is wrong. That's another topic altogether. But that a company has the legal right to look into my computer and see if I am illegally running their programs with copied serial numbers etc. Uhm, it scares me a bit to say the least. I mean, is crap like this even legal under the constitution. I think it's kindof funny that they claim it will "outlaw reverse engineering" and how are they going to do that? All geeks, you must HALT your progress in seeing how things work. I'd like them to try to stop me from figuring out how ICQ works..etc. etc. blah

Anyone think that the standards for peeking into our computers will be open source? Then we can block dis bullshit with our handy dandy multi-pupose firewalls.

    Where is this country going?

Kindof off topic, but. Although I always like to see code in someones writing especially Perl :) , I feel compelled to note that you have a bug in your signature. Looking at it, everything seemed right, except that reverse() is based on characters and string. Being the geek that I am, I fired up an xterm and tested my theory:

    Ooops!

  15. RedHat and the Microsoft Empire on Red Hat Backlash? · · Score: 1

I run RedHat on my boxes and if I install it for someone else I install RedHat. Why? One concern with Slack is libc, it's dated...lets move. Also, I like RedHat, back when I installed 4 I had no problems so I saw no reason to switch. I have a few CDs of other dists but I dont need them.

I think we've all been scared with what happened with Microsloth. I'll admit that once in a while I get a little worried about RedHat, but then I realize that there is always rm -rf /
If there ever escapes a line of code that is RedHat *ONLY* I think that the Linux community will unite to fight the problem. Who cares if one distribution is hitting it big. Remember, if it gets it into the corporate/education/goverment world who cares? It's still Linus's kernel, it's still all GPL, it's still Donald Beckers ethernet driver and it's still every other hacker that has contributed's distribution. Whether or not there are 100 RedHat boxes and 10 other.

My 2 cents, sorry for wasting your time.
