Wow, good thing you know what you're talking about.
At one point in Apple's history they decided it would be wise to license their OS to other manufacturers. Umax, PowerComputing and a couple others got into the game.
PowerComputing proceeded to build faster and cheaper Macs, and power users bought more PC machines than Apple's.
Apple revoked the license, and put PowerComputing out of business.
I do remember a day when all of Rochester MN was out of Internet, and I heard most of Mpls was too. If Rochester was out, most of SE MN was too...so hey that's pretty funny
(Sorry for the double post, wasn't meant to be under that thread)
Ax Man surplus stores are the coolest!! Are these only a Minneapolis MN thing? Or are they everywhere? I don't know, but damn they have some cool surplus shit.

This is a great AS, finally! My question is, how can I get Dolby 5.1 from my SB Live, to my receiver with all the fixings. From what I've read, you can get AC3 (D5.1) from the SB Live, but is this possible under Linux? What software can be used to output it to the Live? I'd love to hear this because I'm waiting a little while to get my new DVD player, my Mac can't output AC3, and I'd love to be able to test out the 5.1 on my new receiver.
Agenda? What freaking agenda? The guy doesn't like the sap that's running for president. It's his website, he sold to Andover, he retained editorial control. He can do whatever the hell he wants.
I hardly see dissing a candidate as a political agenda.
Yeah, it was on like 6xxx series IIRC. I think for sure it works on like the 6115. And you didn't have to do it at startup. You could hold it down and do "About this Macintosh.." like in the old days. Way back on the Plus and stuff you could do like Cmd-Option About and get a little B&W scene.
Father, I have a confession to make. I did my share of buzz-word tossing in my idea proposal. It was a total shot in the dark, I never win anything anyway. I took an idea I thought would be cool, and proposed it. Albeit with a couple buzzwords to set off their Perl-Powered Judge-O-Matic.
Oh well, w00t, I get an IOpener. I had 3 ordered, never got one:(
Well, I posted earlier on the subject of the pilot100 program. Now I'd like to shift things and talk about Netpliance and the whole shindig sorrounding them;)
Some people will say that I'm tainted because I just got a free IO. Nope, this is my opinion and I'm stickin to it.
Netpliance had no choice but to change their ToS to force people to buy their ISP service. It's their business model, and that's how it has to be. What if you bought a car for $10, and it was just understood that you bought gas from that dealer. All of a sudden someone found a way to use someone else's gas, that was cheaper. What would the original dealer do? Find a way to FORCE the customer to buy their gas again.
In essence, this is what Netpliance did. Moderate me Troll, but the Open Source community loves to get their panties in a bunch about stuff like this, but really, business is business.
I really don't see anything wrong with it, I've recommended I-Openers to numerous people that wanted to get their grandmother or whatever on the Internet without a computer. The device is excellent, and the service is good enough.
Maybe, just maybe, Netpliance has gotten a hint though, and is going to find a way to get us some neat toys. Maybe the pilot100 is the start of that?
I'm one of the people that got into the pilot100 program, and I have to admit, most of the projects, including my own, were kinda weak. I don't know what all got submitted (Netpliance: Post all submissions!) but a lot of the ones chosen were exactly the same. "I want to configure an IO to play Mp3s"
What can I say though, I'm getting free hardware for the first time in my life. More than I can say for any other company. And, I'd like to actually see if I can pull of my project, in some form atleast.
Don't get me wrong - other developers - some of the project ideas were also really cool. But the majority was same ol same ol.
Playstation 2 will win it for the same reason it won against the N64. Sony will flood the market with games, some good, some not so good, and some incredible, making it a must-have system. Metal Gear Solid 2 anyone? Gran Turismo 2000. And countless others. Microsoft just won't be able to come up with the games fast enough, and developers will have no reason to switch to a less established platform just to make MS happy.
I've got a N64 here next to my PSX, do I ever play it? Is it because I can't easily copy ROMS, and I don't want to buy a Z64? Probably. But if I could, what games would I even want for 64?
No thanks, give me my PSX and the rows and rows of rent-to-own games at my local video store.
SIM cards are on a layer much higher than CDMA/TDMA. You could very well have SIM cards on a CDMA network.
Here is a decent procmail rule, probably not perfect.

I agree, this shouldn't work.
It's not THAT hard. You just use a TiG welder (Tungsten inert Gas). The technique is a little different, but mostly it's the same.

Radio Shack.
A guy I know who works for SGI has a cool one, Tools Hooligan. I think he has a few more good ones, but he's not on IRC at the moment.
You sir, are an idiot.
Fuck you.
Man, you have some cool ass parties

Yep, that's pretty much what it amounts to.
We registered fuckinmoney.com just fine with DirectNIC, and it's cheap too. www.directnic.net
No moron, it doesn't make sense. You pay like a magazine, once a year, whether or not you read it, YOU PAY. Learn to read before you speak

MAYBE Taco wants to take over the world..
Yes!
This is more crap news. As soon as the media decided that Apple wasn't going out of business, it was merging with Disney. Blech.
We haven't seen this one before a few times.

Wish I could remember exactly
