I can't believe you're ignorant enough to believe that installing linux will stop people from "hacking" you. Sure, it may keep the script kiddies out, but anyone with actual knowledge of computer security will probably know linux just as well as any other operating system. Especially considering linux has a decent sized server market share (which are the boxes that need to be secured the most, imho).
Unfortunatly the only state I've seen it cheaper in is Iowa. I currently attend school in Illinois where Ethanol costs more than regular unleaded gasoline. I'd also be willing to bet, that this price decline in Iowa is government funded and thus is helping up your tuition even faster:).
I took a few classes at DMACC (the college mentioned in this article) when I was in High School, alot of them were easier then the classes I was taking in High School. I don't think removing all the papers on campus is going to make it any better, what they need, is academic standards.
Leave it to this wonderful state (which I happen to live in), to have its biggest newspaper prove how tech illiterate the state is by hiding/removing stories from their site. This is why I go to school in Illinois:).
Lots of you don't understand how huge this is for rural Iowa. As a former resident , I can tell you that, Rural Iowa is way behind the times . I personally was limited to 56k consistantly at home. It was sad:(
Does this mean that my name and address, which I gave to DC when I got my cue cat (yes, stupid idea) is again going to be distributed? (the first time being when their database got stolen)
Personally I would love to have one of these sexy machines for myself. The downside is definitly the price. For 650 I could get myself an OK laptop, and I can do a hell of a lot more on it. I wish compaq could find a way to cut costs on these, I think they could easily surpass the palms.
Ok, as Mac OS X time rolls around. I am reminded of the current pains of Mac OS and how they need to be changed. My main concern is security, having Macs / Windows Machines / and one Linux server on your network proves to be an administration nightmare. Logon security is never the same, and that just sucks. Linux -> Windows works excellent through Samba. But currently Mac Manager (the Mac secuirty suite) lacks linking to ANYTHING. Hopefully Apple gets the 'Big Picture' and descides to standarize their security suite.
I think our office did it right. Of cource we are all in cubicals, but thats nice. It means privacy. We have 1/2 the buildling on 1 side of the kitchen 1/2 on the other. And most of our meeting rooms are 'themed' to the client type that we have. It's really quite nice. It's a relaxed enviorment, and yesterday we got free coffee!
I wouldn't mind Java network programing . . .if it had selects. Until then, C all the way.
Java Performance Tuning: A course in C programing

That's what you get for living in Canada?
Why live in America Jr. when you could live in America, anyway:)
Where the hell do I find a Frys? Am I the only person whose never heard of the place?
What disk do you use if your floppy disk drivers break?
> It's 5-6 cents cheaper per gallon at the pump!

I believe John McCain said that at one of the Republican presidential primaries in Iowa. Needless to say, he was promptly "booed".

It's the 2002 HOPE (Hackers on the planet Earth) conference. See http://www.h2k2.net.
The best part of the cDc talk was when the cute little blonde got up on the stage and people began yelling "Show us your tits".
Can You Imagine A beowulf Cluster Of These

Start drinking before/during/after class . . works for me! You'd be impressed how funny binary trees can be some days!
