So if I put in my blog "I'm going to kill Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabadooat at Moe's Tavern on the 13th of Smarch" then anybody and everybody who reads is required to turn me in. Or does this law not apply at all to mis/information spread via the internet? I'm curious is the SS checked IPs of visitors to the guy's site and asked them some questions.
If Chemical vapour deposition can be scaled up to construction size then buildings could be slowly built similarly to 3D printing. That'd be one hella strong building. If not whole buildings then perhaps just the windows. Short of that, maybe diamonds will be used as bullet proof glass.

Using wind as an energy source is still quite expensive. Adding another step would make it an even less viable option. Have a look at the energy transforms needed to run a "typical" H2 car: Mechanical energy(wind water etc) -> electrical energy -> chemical (Hyrdogen/battery) -> electrical -> mechanical(drive).
In reality a lot of the world's power still comes from burning fossil fuels so there is another chemical to mechanical transform right at the start to spin turbines. Now, a fossil fuel powered car simply goes from chemical -> mechanical. Fossil fueled powered vehicles aren't that bad when one considers all the energy lost before it even gets to our hydrogen powered cars.
Yes, ethanol is cheap to make but expensive to buy. There'd have to some law changes to avoid having to pay the taxes associated with buying consumable alcohol. Using ethanol in the chem lab is pricy.
I think before any major keyboard revolution comes there is going to be a trend to switch to speech recognition. A 2.5 Ghz or equivilent CPU is capable of doing better than real time. I realize that keyboards still will have their place but for at 4:00am while finishing a term paper it sure would be nice not having to worry about the ol' fingers having to function properly.
They talked about this very subject in Stephen Hawking's Universe. Surely I'm not the only one that saw it. Surely you're not going to call him a crackpot too? Could somebody back me up here?
With the way cutbacks are being made, perhaps Hubble's life will be extended a bit longer while the NGST is put on hold for a couple years. I seem to remember reading something about Hubble being run at the same time as the NGST for a little while. Too lazy to look though.
I guess after a while the computers and other equipment eventualy break down over time because of all the radiation and junk. I realize that they built this thing with radiation shields and whatnot, but I don't think they stop everything 100% forever.
I seem to remember reading about thermal diodes being able to convert excess heat in the 200-400 range into electricity. Perhaps these two technologies could come together.
For all we know, we could be the spawn of some other civilization out somewhere else in the galaxy and the killing of the dinosaurs etc. was all part of their terraforming/taking over the planet strategy.
Sortof a spinoff of the theory of ETs seeding the planet with life in the form of bacteria, which would be relatively easy to do compared to sending a more advanced lifeform.

Now, if I remember my astronomy, the moon has little atmosphere so even the little meteors make it to the moon's surface, causing pretty big damage. A big crater isn't going to provide too much protection is it?
The electrostrictive polymers sound pretty cool. Not only would you be generating power for all your electronics, but you'd also stay warm and dry. I assume if it can protect you in space then it would be able to do the same here on good ol' Earth. Can you imagine it? Everybody wearing skin-tight "space-suits"? It'd be just like in the movies.... except luckily there are never fat people in movies wearing those things.
I can't forsee Maglev being used to launch anything from Earth. The escape velocity is of earth is ~11.2km/s which is negating air friction. For perspective, when the shuttle comes to land from a high orbit, it is travelling ~8km/s. When it is going this fast however, the air is still quite thin. By the time it gets lower in the atmosphere it has slowed considerably. So, from the way I see it, whatever you're launching is going to burn up before it gets to where its going, and thats if the robots could withstand the acceleration.
Aren't their jobs already stressfull enough without putting even more planes into the air? Or would we just see people fighting for rooftop parking spaces just like they do in cars.
What would the equivilent of road rage be? sky-rage? air-rage?
