They want to phase out the status bar, and they figured not providing that functionality was for the best
Wow, that's simply awful. The status bar is there for a reason. Do they really want people following links with even less information than they have now? If my browser is stalling out trying to load a page, how will I know what domain to block?
Looks like Mozilla is continuing to dumb down its user interface. Is there a browser around that targets the geek market? One for those of us who want more information and more control?
Does one tenuous correlation to a very small increase in a very small risk really justify jailing thousands of otherwise mild mannered and productive people?
Everyone in politics has blood on their hands. I care about her and her staff about as much as she cares about the thousands of civilians dead in Iraq or Afghanistan. Or about as much as she cares about the good people imprisoned under our insane Cannabis laws. Or the millions of lives ruined for the sake of enriching bankers. If she's anything like my own representatives, that's not very much at all.
They're still as much fun as they were 20 years ago. Modern computers are boring, so I'd say even more so. Computing was once an end in itself, these days it's just a tool.
I tried this. I bought an AMD card (4550 iirc) for an HTPC I was building. I'd be happy to have 2d acceleration working on it. Haven't been able to get it to work with any X driver besides Vesa. Drivers install, but X won't run. Running the util that generates an Xorg.conf just segfaults. This is with any of the drivers from Mepis or direct from AMD, open source or commercial.
I gave up. Maybe I'll try again this weekend, but I'm leaning towards just buying an nVidia card. The only time I've had nVidia's drivers fail on me was Debian's fault (and that only affected 32bit software and was fixed with two extra command line options to the installer).
If I'm going to respect copyright, tell me why I don't deserve to have these movies on my Nintendo DS, Netbook HDD, PS3, etc in whatever the latest resolution is.
You answered your own question there, because you respect copyright. If you well and truly respect copyright, you do not believe you are entitled to any copies other than those provided by the owner of the copyright. Copyright exists to nickel and dime you. If you have a problem with that, you don't really support copyright.
That is why the author of the blog post suggests that the debate over network neutrality is not based upon the real problem that is facing network engineering and why it is a political solution in search of a problem.
It takes awhile to "grok" this problem, but once you do it becomes obvious why this is such a huge deal.
At least the real solution is obvious. Invest in network infrastructure and eliminate those queues entirely.
If a smart employee can make a convincing case that the company is run by morons, it's not the employee that's the problem. It's the morons that are running the place.
It's a childish reaction. You know, the one where mom or dad or your teacher tells you not to do something that you know is perfectly safe to do but that you shouldn't do it "because I said so!"
A child who disobeys an arbitrary order is more mature than the adult who issues it. Maturity is not capricious.

And two, the move is more about having a free-as-in-beer standard than a free-as-in-speech one.
A free as in speech standard is free as in beer too.
There is no exemption for non-infringing uses in the DMCA.
The only lesson anyone will learn is to remain truly anonymous and release your hacks over Freenet, I2P, or some other deniable system.
I guess Sony root kits aren't selling as well these days.
Or just crank up the volume on your stereo system. Who can hear case fans over realistic explosions?
Nice try, but way too obvious. 3/10
Your argument is that because Sweden has illegally rendered people before that they will not do so again?
Everything I've read about "The King of Kong" indicates that it's more fiction than fact.
Your post is aptly named.
He's a father of three. A little alone time probably sounds like a really good idea about now.

He's VP of a company that leases from Bell and is having the price increase imposed upon them.

There are four categories for old systems. "Good enough for Win7", "Wow, a great Linux machine", "don't bother", and "Commodore 64? SWEET!".
FTFY

Who's more immoral, the guy who uses government power to get himself paid in perpetuity for a days work, or the guy who helps others get around that?
It doesn't take much of a whiz to be number one at this game. Urine for a great time with Sega!
Exactly. One out of every twenty "statistically significant" effects (P value =.05) is due to random chance.
The help desk is a lot like Jeopardy too, in that the answer is often given in the form of a question. e.g. "Is the computer plugged in?"
