Software is not scarce, developer time is. I'll never understand the cognitive dissonance that makes people think a non-scarce resource should be treated like a scarce one.
I was prohibited from playing Phantasmagoria when I was 15. If you want to talk about negative influences, I can tell you that the realization that my father had no respect for me as a thinking human being was far, far worse than anything I could have experienced in a game. Especially one that sucked as much as Phantasmagoria. I lost *all* respect for his parenting ability, and proceeded to make my own decisions, right or wrong, without giving his input any consideration at all.
The urge to protect children from violent media is misguided, and should not be encouraged. Children should be exposed to any and all media they are interested in, and taught how to deal with it in a responsible way.
Telling the truth has the best outcome. By telling the truth you discover whether your significant other is psychotic or not. That allows you to make your escape before anything serious like marriage or kids happens.
If you don't want an honest answer, just don't ask. If that makes me not part of "polite society", so be it. I'd rather be part of an honest society.
You'd have to be ignorant to consider what McDs sells a burger. Even if you don't care about quality, the value (quality per price) at McDs is much worse than average. Go spend $6 at Hardees instead of $5 and you get a burger that's worth a lot more than 120% of that greaseball McDs sells. If all you care about is price, go to Taco Bell and spend $3 and get just as many calories. On all 3 counts, quality, price, and quality:price ratio, McDonald's fails.
That probably was their strategy. McDonalds doesn't get a lot of business from serious diners, but they're not doing too badly. There's a lot of money to be made catering to the general public who's too ignorant to know good service from bad.
I don't know where you hang out, but I've met some of the nicest most normal and well adjusted people on IRC. Though, I tend to stick around small servers that aren't part of any network.
You may well be right there. It's hard not to be pessimistic when the political trend my entire life has been one of decreasing the power of the people and increasing power for reactionary conservatives. Especially disheartening when the only hint of civil resistance I've ever experienced is in response to the government actually trying to do something good for it's people for once. We've been steadily marching towards the right for at least the past 30 years, and I don't see it stopping any time soon. I'd love to be convinced that I'm wrong.
So I figure, for anyone who says "the creators are wrong in their satire" just opens the door for "those hippies supporting marijuana" (Viva Marijuana was the sign I saw this morning on the way to work) to also be "censored."
Disclosing your password to your boss is specifically prohibited(PDF, page 34) by California's password policy.
Have you tried it with MPlayer? I just tried it with an OGV from archive.org. Seeking was instantaneous.

Covering up for pedophiles is bad. Really bad. But it's not quite the worst of the worst.

Yes, you are correct. Both Republicans like Schwarzeneggar and Democrats like Clinton are in the wrong here.
I won't begin to suggest all Democrats are evil. I'm a middle of the road guy.
How's this for middle of the road? All Democrats and all Republicans are evil.
Because video games are new and scary, while republicans are old and fearful. 10 to 1 the supreme court rules against individual freedom once again.
Overlap? They are entirely coincident.
Israel isn't our ally. We are Israel's ally.
So your belief is that unregulated gambling is better than regulated gambling?

There are so many instances where something is "wrong," but not illegal, for me to even begin citing them.
There are also many instances where something is illegal, but not wrong.
The difference between "found" and "stolen" is entirely in the mind of the... "finder".
There's a clear difference between finding and stealing in the eyes of the media too.

What do you interpret "you have to encrypt that data...as it's persisted" to mean then?
I just idle on IRC instead.
If that was the only basis on which they ruled, you'd be right. But they did rule that the content of the speech mattered. That's chilling.
Redesigning the internet so it can be controlled by a powerful few would be much more prone to abuse than the current internet.
Except when the majority sees *OOH PRETTY!* and buys anyway, thereby depriving those of us who care about our rights the only influence we have.

Hentai.

That door has already been opened.
