I challenge anyone to watch The Postman, then Dances with Wolves (4 hour version), then WaterWorld - and still be able to say that! (You'll be lucky to be able to speak at all)
Computers are not at fault here, people are, and in particular, American people.
When in the US, the amount of times I have been confronted by a beuracratic morons who either 'dont have a form for that sir' or 'havent done that before, cant help you' is amazing. No doubt this is compounded by the fact that I come from somewhere else other than America (shock horror, there are other countries in the world?).
If something is not exactly as their procedure state and they have to think just a little bit outside the box, all hell breaks loose and their world comes crashing down.
All rules, laws and procedures are GUIDELINES. I cannot think of a single man made law that could not have an exception to it.
All of the management techniques I have observed have boiled down to a high priced packaging of common sense - once all the buzz words are removed that is. Not to say that this is too much of a sham, as the problem with common sense is that it isnt that common, therefore it can be useful for getting some of the lesser drones pointing in the same direction.
