We mostly use cash and if it's someone we know, we use electronic transactions if a computer is nearby. I have also transfered money using my phonebank number. Just dial a number, press the buttons for your birthid (10 digits) and a code which the bank has provided by snail mail.
Here in Sweden there are lots of companies who buy products like these http://www.merchantexpress.com/wireless_credit_card_processing.htm which is a wireless credit card machine. As long as you use it in an area where cell phones work, most of these will also work.
It's perfect when you are on an outdoor market, a convention etc. Even our ice cream trucks in Sweden use wireless credit card machines.
Last time I saw a cheque used was more then 15 years ago, mainly because we have used credit/debit cards for so long that we no longer need or want cheques. For instance, cashing in a cheque from USA in a bank here can cost about $70-90 USD no matter what the amount is. So we rather do electronic payments, cash or debit/credit cards.
I have also tried it for a while and it works great in Leopard. Has never crashed for me, but firefox on the other hand has crashed a lot.
Pages updates are a bit faster, sites like Facebook works better for some odd reason. They load a bit faster for me.
I also recomment trying out Chrome if you use a Mac or Linux.
When I was on call for fixing nortel meridian and ericsson md110 phone switches remotely I got paid for having a cell phone on when I had it. So a customer could call at any hour and I would have 30 mins to get to work no matter where I was located so I could login to their systems and do what was needed. I was paid special overtime for this, which didn't pay as well as the normal 100% extra hour salary. I think it was 20-30% extra if nothing happened and 70ish% extra if something happened. Phones has to work so I guess people tend to pay a bit more then for a website person on call, which is wrong considering some companies live off of their website.
A friend of mine had 100% extra on his boss webservers, but that was because he had built it from scratch and was probably the only one who could fix any problems in the time his boss wanted it to be fixed.
In my opinion, this Annie should be paid atleast 50% her normal salary when she is on call. This is something which should be in the contract with her employer. If the website is so important so she can't fix it in the morning, then it means it's also important enough to pay for on call service.
I think I was misunderstood. I'm a mac user, I got an iPhone. But there is a reason to why Apple wont open up BT more then they have and my guess and only a guess is that they don't want to make sure that every single BT keyboard works with the iPhone.
Lets say that they do open it up and suddenly people with keyboard xyz says but this doesn't work with my iPhone, Apple is crap buhu! That would only be bad press. I wrote nothing about BT headsets.
Android looks good, so does Maemo, well on papers because I haven't seen any of them live.
1. It looks very large in her small hands and a bit too thick for my taste, but then again there is a projector and probably one battery per part of the phone which takes extra space.
2. I guess it's because then Apple would have to make a keyboard themselves which was locked somehow so that it was the only BT KB that the iPhone could use. I mean otherwise people could use the BT for something more useful then what we can do today with it and that would be bad in apples eyes.
I'm not 100% on this information, because the team behind voddler doesn't answer many questions. Anyways, seems like the 13GB is for cache for other voddler users. Meaning it's filesharing if that is really true, but probably only bits and pieces. Just so that Voddler doesn't have to have everything on their own servers.
The server client is always running using bandwidth, memory and cpu time. Not a lot, but still more then I wanted it to so I closed it down and only start it when I want to see a movie.
Is this ok? No it's not, but if I want the service I have to agree to have that server on to watch movies.
That is correct, but in my case it did not work. I don't know if it was because it was trying to connect at the same time as it froze that made it so [Command-Option-Esc] didn't work. I could be completely wrong, but I have noticed that programs which connect to the net and freeze up while doing so on a Mac can be hard to kill at times. Firefox with lots of plugins does this from time to time so that a kill -p pid in terminal wont work. Could just be my imagination though. And it has only happened once so far and that was on the first Mac client.
It's a beta so I should have seen it coming.
Yes, it does require their own version of XBMC client. Here are the technical requirements:
Technical requirements for Voddler.
> A computer with a minimum of 1000 megahertz (MHz) or higher, memory 512 MB and 13 GB available space on your hard drive.
> Operating system of Windows Vista or Windows XP. In time for the official release, Voddler will also be available on Mac.
> Internet connection of a minimum of 2,5Mbit.
> UPnP enabled router or an open Internet connection
> 3G mobile broadband is NOT supported at this stage.
> Voddler recommends an ATI/AMD, Intel, or NVIDIA graphics controller that supports OpenGL 2.0 to fully experience the slick Voddler graphical interface. Please also make sure you have the latest graphics device drivers installed on your system.
> ATI Radeon R420 (X800) or newer supported, ATI Radeon R700 (HD 4000) or newer recommended.
> Intel GMA 950 (945G) or newer supported, Intel GMA X4500HD (G45) or newer recommended.
> NVIDIA GeForce 6-Series and newer supported, GeForce 8-Series and newer recommended.
They haven't updated the FAQ or requirements about support of Mac yet. Linux is not supported, not sure if it runs in Wine though.
What scares me is that you need to have UPnP fully opened for all incoming calls in your router/firewall.
It was hacked a while ago so you could do just that plus it removed the commercials. But it was noticed quite fast, because it disrupted the service so they had to close down for 2-3 days to fix it and thus released a new client which you needed to download and install so you could continue watching movies. That hole is plugged, but there could be more which hasn't been discovered yet.
There are plans once the service is for everyone which allows you to get rid of commercials.
From voddlers FAQ:
Do I need to pay for Voddler? You will have the choice of advertised movies and pay per view. In the beta version only advertised movies are available.
I have been using voddler as a beta tester for a few weeks now and it works quite ok after the last client upgrade.
The first mac client was crap, nothing happened when I tried to login and it went fullscreen mode when started plus the program froze so I had to shut down the computer with forced shut down. After the latest client version I was logged in when I started the program, Voddler client is built on XBMC Media Center and you can only use the keyboard to navigate which can be quite annoying when navigating.
Browsing the few movies they have at the moment is fairly easy (only about 500 movies or so). First I get a commercial and then the movie plays nicely on just 10-12Mbit adsl line. I have heard that there was commercial breaks in the movies, but I haven't seen any commercial in a movie so far, just the commercial just before the movie starts which can be 10 minutes long or so.
For a beta I think it's a nice product which works quite well for me. Especially since the last update on the client which allows you to go into windowed mode which I forgot to mention further up in my text.
I believe that Voddler can be great once the new movies pop in and the beta goes into full product. The client has only crashed on me once and when I started it up again and found my movie I was looking at I could start where it ended.
I read about a research a while ago (years, sorry no source) that states that acquiring large sums of money creates the same kind of euphoria as for instance using cocaine as it causes the same neurotransmitters to be produced in the brain. Irrational need for more and more money is a real addiction I think and should be treated as such.
Researcher Xinyue Zhou, of the department of psychology at Sun Yat-Sen University in China, puts it in very human terms. "We think money works as a substitute for another pain buffer -- love."
And they link to this pdf http://www.csom.umn.edu/assets/127771.pdf
Seems like if you handle money you can endure certain amounts of pain a bit more if the study is correct and you feel more strength.
A friend of mine wrote a program which installed on the users computer even when you clicked "No" on the do you wish to install this application in Internet Explorer. This was to reconnect the users modem to a modempool his boss had which was very hard to get rid off, because he wrote it very viral like. Remove one or 2-3 parts and suddenly you had it again.
When I spoke to his boss about this and other stuff he had on their rippoff of the hotornot site he just shrugged and said it's in a gray area and not illegal yet so I don't care.
People like this will always be out there and they don't care how they make money or who gets hurt as long as they have a nice income.
Would be nice if Huawei and ZTE also got into One Voice. Sprint, Clearwire and T-mobile has chosen other technologies where Sprint and Clearwire goes for Wimax and wont go for LTE and T-mobile goes for VoLGA, Voice over LTE via Generic Access.
I think it would be better if those companies joined in on LTE in One Voice. But that's just my opinion. Just more logical to have one standard then several for the sake of the customers and ofcourse the mobile manufacturers.
Researchers at Emory University and Georgia Institute of Technology have announced that they have found an enzyme that helps nerves to grow in areas damaged after trauma.
I can finally be free of the mental image of goatse!
This year I've been driving 4 different Toyota Yaris and 2 Toyota Auris from 2009. The floor mat stuck on the gas pedal on all 6 cars which can be a bit annoying when driving 75 mph on the freeway and some idiot is stuck in 70-72 mph and you can't pass him because you got someone else driving past in the outer lane. Just breaking while the gas pedal is stuck is no fun. First time this happened I almost panicked, but I managed to remove the floor mat in time.
So I wouldn't call this an electrical glitch, you just need to move the floor mat back 2-3 inches and this doesn't happen.
This is the best translation I could come up with using google translate and my knowledge of the swedish language.
Two of the pirates behind the file sharing site Pirate Bay riscs a new million fine. Stockholm District Court threatens them with each SEK 500,000 in liquidated damages if the Pirate Bay won't shut down.
In April this year, the verdict fell against The Pirate Bay - in fact without anything really changed. Sharing The site was still there, as well as the illegal file sharers.
After threats of being sued decided the site operator, Black Internet, to switch off The Pirate Bay.
Despite that, the site is still maintained, so the district court decided that they'll turn against the people behind the site.
For Fredrik Neij and Gottfried Svartholm Warg, it means a civil action to enforce bans The Pirate Bay.
- If they continue to operate, they can be sentenced to pay a fine of half a million crowns to each of the state, says lawyer Monique Wadsted representing Hollywood companies in the trial of The Pirate Bay
They say that they no longer have anything to do with the management?
- They say it, but there are a host of other information they have provided, and registrations of domain names that clearly shows that they are still involved in the operation of the business.
Fredrik Neij writes in an email to DN that he has had nothing to do with the operation of The Pirate Bay in a long time, and that he therefore is already following the district court's decision.
Furthermore, he believes that it does not matter to him if the debt of the enforcement service is the 45 million or 45.5 million crowns. "It's money I will never be able to pay," he writes.
He also notifies the sentence will be appealed.
Black Internet has appealed the district court's earlier decision on the penalty. The matter is currently with the Court of Appeal.
If it eventually covers all 6'000 spoken languages, then I will be able to understand the Swedish chef!
If harsh language is prohibited, then Klingon will probably be hard to translate.
The LTE specification provides downlink peak rates of at least 100 Mbps, an uplink of at least 50 Mbit/s and RAN round-trip times of less than 10 ms. LTE supports scalable carrier bandwidths, from 20 MHz down to 1.4 MHz and supports both Frequency Division Duplexing and Time Division Duplexing.
Part of the LTE standard is the System Architecture Evolution, a flat IP-based network architecture designed to replace the GPRS Core Network and ensure support for, and mobility between, some legacy or non-3GPP systems, for example GPRS and WiMax respectively.[5]
The main advantages with LTE are high throughput, low latency, plug and play, FDD and TDD in the same platform, improved end-user experience and simple architecture resulting in low operating expenditures. LTE will also support seamless passing to cell towers with older network technology such as GSM, cdmaOne, W-CDMA (UMTS), and CDMA2000.
LTE is still far into the future. We are currently testing LTE in some sites here in Sweden and it's quite expensive. Plus we need more terminals with the LTE chip before this will be a breakthrough among the population. My guess is that here in Sweden we will have a bad/ok LTE connection around 2015, and around 2017 ïwe will have about as much as 90ï-95% of Sweden covered with LTE.
Where as in USA which is a bit larger I don't think you'll have okish LTE connectivity until 2020. But these are just number I pulled out from a dark place and guesses from when I worked at TeliaSonera (Swedens largest mobile access provider) with different projects like Telia Homerun (wifi in public places) and UMTS.
Wimax is a good solution until then, if it's rolled out within 2-3 years.
I agree! We better save the facehugger before the baby eats it alive!
