Your last phrase proves your point in the way that different people understand things differently. I always thought 2.3 times larger means that whatever the reference is will be multiplied by 2.3, so if reference is 1, then end result is 2.3.

So yeah, point proven: TFS should be referring to absolute numbers and then infer relative numbers from that.

I forgot to add that we let our bodies tell us what they need. During the last couple months, we both craved radish and green salad, our daily intake went off the scale for a while.

Our son (he's 29 months) doesn't know what chocolate is, nor candy, chips, sweets of any kind except for homemade stuff or organic products such as whole grain biscuits with no sugar. But he eats craploads of fresh fruits and vegetables. Interestingly enough, he developed a healthy lifestyle from a food perspective. If he wants strawberries, he gets them and doesn't eat all of them, e.g. we put 10 in a bowl and he eats 6, then he's done. He lets his body guide him and doesn't overeat.

Not saying that we're better than most, really. I think it's all about early education and how you grow to trust your needs if you get them right while you're very young. I call this "body calibration". Stuff your kid with candy, coke and industrially-produced cookies with all sorts of additives, his body will calibrate improperly and his eating habits would be imbalanced for the rest of his life.

Bullshit. This is not valid for everyone. I guzzle fat stuff all day long. Butter, lard, fat milk, fat cheese, fat meat, fat fish, you name it. Doesn't affect my weight. 141 pounds and 6 feet tall, and on top of that I don't even exercise a lot. I walk about 2 miles a day on average, because I don't own a car, but I also sit in front of a computer 12 hours a day.

Same for my wife, but she walks even less on average, and throughout both her pregnancies she gained 20 pounds tops.

Our "problem" is that we can't gain weight. Well, not really something that preoccupies us, just sayin'. Could be that we eat organic food as much as possible, we avoid food additives like the plague, don't know. Fact of the matter is I was stable at 141 pounds (+/-2) for the last 20 years.

I don't care if it's called Zhiang Zhun Chi or Apple iMcProAir. I care about whether it's solidly built, has good battery life and allows me to use the same software I use on my laptop. I also couldn't care less if the brand name has a history of unfortunate releases. So as with you, and half the people this article refers to: Am I excess headcount, under-utilised, or an asset to the company?

    Depends who you ask.
If you ask my manager (who doesn't know exactly what i do, nor does he give a shit, as long as I make him look good), I'm an "useful employee".
If you ask my colleagues, I'm "the dude who works 2h a day and should be fired".
If you ask my director, I'm "the guy who saved our LoB's fur more times than I could count".
If you ask my VP, I'm "the guy who gets shit done and an asset to the company" - until he decides otherwise.

That's why I usually go straight to my VP (e.g. call his cellphone) whenever shit hits the fan and serve him with the proper answers and findings and solutions - so that he doesn't change his mind and so that he could tell my director "that guy saved our LoB's fur again". Colleagues? Fuck them. They could think whatever the hell they want.

One more thing: Of course I am underutilized. Hell yeah, I definitely am underutilized. But that's not my fault, nor can I do anything about it. It's because there are DB admins who take a month to grant me access to a data source and in the meantime that specific project is stalled and all I could do is wait for data to become available. It's the VP pissing contests, political games and whatnot. And I wisely keep away from those.

Exactly this. Numerous times it took me 1-2h to solve what others spent weeks to investigate and find (and soundly failed the task). Yes, I work 2-3 hours a day, rarely more, and everybody knows it, however they value the outcome because that outcome is 10 times faster coming out than others'.

My 2-3 hours a day often equate 20-30 hours for others. That, and the fact that I am awfully cheap more than make me valuable.
