People without Spanish skills can probably just look at the capitalized words and get the idea.
The FLA was formed by the apparel industry as a front to make it look like they were doing something to protect the workers in their factories. Now the electronics industry may be joining, but there's no reason to suspect they'll suddenly gain a new appreciation for something other than PR.
I was in Canada last summer for a couple of weeks, and Verizon offered me fairly reasonable data (and voice, fwiw) roaming rates. They even automatically canceled the plan on the day I was scheduled to return to the US without me having to make another call to customer service. Most Verizon reps have actually heard of Canada. It's not like you're traveling across the ocean or anything.
By “fairly reasonable,” of course, I still mean too much money, but still less than signing up for an entirely new prepaid plan with a Canadian carrier. Call them up, see how much money they want, and then make your comparisons from there.
Sure. But the original question was about taking a deduction for the time spent writing the book which, even if the copyright of the book were donated to a 501(c)3, would not be allowed.
are there any practical hypermiling techniques that you've found for people not ready to purchase a new car, nor give up driving generally?
If you're not willing to give up driving in toto, driving less will do wonders for your gas consumption. Move to a city (of the sort with public transit), buy a bike, and watch your gas and insurance bills tend towards zero.
I tried getting a Windows refund out of Dell a few months ago for my then-new laptop. I never succeeded really, but they did give me a $30 refund basically just to go away, and told me to keep the Windows software. Not sure what I'm supposed to do with it.
or at least they ought to... those of us who work for nonprofits can tell stories of the total junk that people donate apparently thinking they're being helpful.
It's, at best, overstating the case to claim that Verizon's response here is “resisting” anything. Most of their objections are pretty lame. They say, for instance, that the government should've sent the subpoena to Verizon Online Services, not to Verizon. They don't want the information to be given to their competitors. They say they might not know how many subscribers they have (how this is possible is beyond me). Beyond these objections and similar, they say how happy they would be to comply.
I have a 5-year-old laptop (PII/333) hooked up directly to a cable modem. It runs mutt, firefox, and ssh. What more do all you people need in your homes?
looks to me like it's a computer using Courier or some similarly ugly font. note the bold-face section headings, and the page numbers apparently in Times font.
I live up 5 flights of stairs. I'd have to own something really valuable (I don't) for a thief to skip over all my neighbors and rip me off. Also, I don't own a car, so car theft is not a problem.
The campaign-finance thing was, I think, struck down. A more likely explanation for why you don't see any more commercials for the move is that it isn't in theaters anymore, it isn't on VHS or DVD yet, and it's generally considered a waste of money (under capitalism) to advertise a product that cannot be bought.
It's not part of the law but rather part of the merchant agreement between the bank and the merchant. Although it's not allowed to charge extra for CC purchases, it is allowed to give a discount for cash. Go figure.

The Metro is a communist conspiracy. Real Americans drive everywhere and don't notice that the road are government-funded as well.
A free Java is now in Debian.

You can't take a tax deduction for time you volunteer. The fact that you're doing so in a convoluted manner doesn't help.

Odd that the author of the linked article seems not to use it.
I disagree with many of RMS's positions, but he has been vital to the open source cause.
RMS would be the first to tell you he's not at all interested in open source, which is a business model, not a cause.
the only exception to this is if there is a union contract (or, more rarely, an individual contract) specifying otherwise.
So here's a question: I don't speak (much) German. How do I make this software do something?
Just because YouTube (or whoever) legally can do something doesn't mean that they should, or that anybody else has to like it when they do.

What happens when someone says "fuck" in one of their podcasts?
the conclusion is that the most expensive CPU performs the best? Anyone actually surprised by this?

The film The Corporation argues that corporations inherently meet the standard definition of schizophrenia.
I promise, it's not a joke. I leave the decision as to if it's "the best info ever to happen" to the individual reader's tastes.
