In a sad way he's right. But he wants to go about it the wrong way. You can't make an employer pay you more or treat you better. Do what I did and work for yourself. I work as a consultant on the side but I also still work for my company too. I treat my employer like one of my customers. That is to say I kiss their butts and make them happy. I treat my customers the same way. It's not about independance or dependace but interdependance.

There are 3 sides to every story: his side, her side and the truth. Now what that politics is involved, I can't beleive this story as truth.
Global Change indeed. There's been a lot of talk about the mini ice age and people are saying that mankind didn't cause it. What happed from 1550 to 1890? There was a population explosion and a resultant massive deforestation in the northern hemisphere for ship building, housing and fuel. When America was "discovered" in 1492 the old growth forests were the most coveted resource of the crowns of Europe for wealth and war making. What do large stands of trees (forests) do for climate? They hold moisture and moisture/humid air holds heat. The removal of those forest caused the mini ice age (at least in the northern hemisphere where the measurements are mostly taken). The burning of the wood, and now oil, has reversed that by introducing CO2 and may push it beyond the pre-1550AD temps.
Paleoclimatology http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleoclimatology is a relatively new science and is just beginning to search for answers. Unfortunately it has become a tool for political activists who are just taking away from the credibility of a few honest scientists who are just searching for ways to measure climate in the pre-recorded history of the earth's climate. And yes, scientists are not immune to political activism.
Simply because we now can. We've already landed along the equator in the 60's because we had no choice. Now we have the technology and extra "delta-v" to land anywhere.
Yes... That's it exactly...NOT! Honestly it simply won't work... it's a power and frequency issue. However what you're thinking about, in physics, is called "Superposition of Waves".
Say I have 50 production Linux servers (go on... say it) running various vital services and I have the budget for the required multiple duplicate "test" servers (and the trained staff) and the time to test every patch that is released deemed necessary by our security team. Lets say that one slips by the "exhaustive" tests. I'd still want a better solution than plain ole apt to undo the patches across the enterprise quickly despite my vast and obvious retardation.
The Smart Package Manager project has the ambitious objective of creating smart and portable algorithms for solving adequately the problem of managing software upgrading and installation. This tool works in all major distributions, and will bring notable advantages over native tools currently in use (APT, APT-RPM, YUM, URPMI, etc).
Does this sound eerily similar to an academic publication to you? Regardless, it does seem to be something aspiring to be useful in the enterprise setting.
Then you'd have to trust that the distro doesn't self destruct by patches breaking your vital (read mission critical here) services.

Hindsight is 20/20. Netscape could have really been something if...
1. they had not initially tried to sell in retail stores but rather offered it to the publc for free.
2. Pre-packaged bookmarks paid for by companies wishing the exposure.
3. Made the Netscape homepage into a valuable search engine... before Google.

Mozilla was a good community relations move on the part of Netscape. I can remember early on when Netscape had sued Microsoft and delayed the release of Windows 98 in a fight for browser dominance. The only logical move was to appeal to the community at large just to stay alive.
utilizing the economic theory that people (scientists are people) tend to act in their own self interests; one could conclude that "scientists" have political agendas that promote said self interests. After all the animal clasified as human is socially advanced to the point where he has become a rather political animal... and group/self, advancement/competition is the purpose of politics.
The point is that a scientist is an intellectual and emotional animal with a biased ideology that is impossible to completely rise above and that "science" is an abstract construct of the above "scientist".
It's a posting to a forum and not an essay my dear trolling friend. Your criticisms are as poorly constructed as they are petty in nature. Your opinion is insignificant since your post is anonymous and cowardly. It is rather a shame that you are so miserable in your life as to have stooped to the rather feeble attempt of elevating yourself by making less of others. Your apparent poor self esteem would best be remedied through actual accomplishments of your own and not by ineffective attacks on others. Best of wishes to you in the future.
Missing the point? Ebay is an American company (read corporation hence evil) operating in China. It is breaking ground and essentially dumping into China gaining a vast market share. It has a lot at stake... one billion potential customers and it has to establish itself as the de facto website for auctions. As an American you get your bit by buying stock in Ebay... my recommendation is: "Buy it Now"
Duh! same as above but... Ktorrent is a now a good Bittorrent client for KDE. Much better that before. It doesn't crash now... hardly ever. When getting an MP3 (over my network) I find I get really nervous and end it as soon as it is finished thus not sharing too long. Bad user... I know but I want it for free you know. I don't want to overpay by thousand of dollars. OK no need to remind me that "I'm stealing" or the "it's wrong". Yeah yeah... I do it anyway... I'm weak and immoral... yada yada yada. Oh yeah! I like their Heidi Klum clip come on. Nice attention graber for the article don't you think?

The only difference would be 3rd party reveiw informatiion (abeit conservative bias) of the professor and he/her classes would be available to the prospective students and their parents. You liberals are afraid of this? Why? If he "exposes" the "radical" professors then what? Nothing, that's what. NOTHING. Conservative parents/students will take other courses and liberal parents/students will that course. People always tend to seek out opinions that agree with what they beleive anyway. Why should a student take an unreviewed class and be dissatisfied, stiffled and ultimatly do poorer? Usually as student we ask around or ask people we know (that we trust) that have taken it before about a class we are thinking of taking, don't we? This guy graduated recently in 2003 and must have suffered these professors (even if in his own mind) without such an aid. It's just freedom though knowledge.

that's what the HiFi stereo is for so the phones are transmitting and receiving music. But it's still BS :-)

I think the guy who posted the link as "anonymous coward" intended for the /. effect to happen. There's your intent is it not?
They've been ./'d already. Is this a crime? :-)
and yet again...

I asked a question and expressed an opinion. Thanks for the reply.
